Final Fantasy V out on European PSN

We caught word a little more than a week ago that Final Fantasy V was being brought to the PSN with some additional cutscenes. It seems the European PlayStation Store has updated, bringing FFV to the PSOne Classics section.

First Vagrant Story, now this? Someone at SCE Europe must have a good connection at Square Enix. Maybe Sir Howard Stringer is a big fan of Ex-Death… Oh well, hopefully it just means we can expect it next week. If not, our PSPs can be occupied with Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection, coming out next Tuesday.

Logos for Sonic Generations and next Mario & Sonic may have leaked

It’s nothing confirmed, but the Sonic Stadium forums have stumbled upon images for the anticipated multi-generational Sonic Generations as well as Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. You can see the pic of the latter after the break.

I know it probably wouldn’t be the final box art, but I kind of like that image of the two Sonics with just a white background. It would be pleasantly simplistic and non-pretentious, and possibly get me more excited for the game (if that’s at all a legitimate reason). Sonic Generations will be coming out this year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, while little information at all (technically, it hasn’t even been announced yet) is known about the next Olympic mash up of the Mushroom Kingdom and… the Zones. Disgaea 4 special editions announced, pretty insane

NIS America is looking to get everyone pumped for the latest entry in their Strategy RPG series, Disgaea 4, by announcing the special edition options fans will be able to indulge in when the game hits stores.

In addition to the regular Blu-Ray, players will be able to get the Premium Edition and the Super Premium Edition. The former entails the game, a Fuka figure, the soundtrack, and an artbook. If you opt for the more super version, you get all that plus nine, you read that right, nine exclusive figures that NIS considers must haves for any hardcore Disgaea fan. You can check out six of them here, but the rest have yet to be revealed.

No word on pricing has been released, but I’d strongly recommend anyone looking to grab these to pre-order, which the site says starts July 2011, as niche titles like Disgaea sometimes have limited production runs. We’ll have more details on pricing as the game draws closer to its September 2011 release date for PlayStation 3.

Steam features for Portal 2 on PS3 detailed

We’ve known for some time now that Steam support was coming to the PS3 version of Portal 2. Valve’s VP of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, appeared on the PlayStation.Blog today to talk a little more about how it’ll work:

Portal 2 for PlayStation 3 is the first title to support Steam on a console. Specifically, that means it offers cross-platform matchmaking, gameplay, friends, chat, and achievements, all powered by Steam. Steam on the PS3 also saves co-op game progress and single player saved games to the Steam Cloud, enabling players to pick up where they left off on any PlayStation 3.

That’s pretty cool. Lombardi also revealed that the PS3 game will offer access to a player’s Steam Friends list when they link their PSN and Steam accounts. This link will also make it so that earning a PS3 Trophy in Portal 2 will unlock the same Steam Achievement in your Steam account.

Portal 2’s release (on the PC and Xbox 360 in addition to the PS3) is just a few days away.

Dungeon Hunter, Patapon 3 added to PlayStation Store

Sony’s massive “Spring Fever” sale may be over, but that doesn’t mean the consolemaker plans to stop adding awesome games to the PlayStation Store.

This week’s offerings include Dungeon Hunter: Alliance, the first ever multiplayer action RPG for the PS3; Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, the “ultimate puzzle RPG”; and a downloadable version of Assassin’s Creed. Best of all, Dungeon Hunter and Might & Magic have been discounted this week for PlayStation Plus members. Dungeon Hunter will be available to download for $9.74 (instead its regular $12.99 pricetag) while Might & Magic can be had for $11.99 ($3 off its $14.99 regular price).

The PSP Store also received one new game this week, Sony’s rhythm puzzler Patapon 3.

More information on all of these titles can be found after the break and a full listing of every new add-on to the PlayStation Store can be found at the PlayStation.Blog. (more…)

Capcom announces Dragon’s Dogma for PS3 and 360

At Capcom’s Captivate event last week, a new IP for high definition consoles was announced: Dragon’s Dogma. Players explore this open-world fantasy setting and take down various beasts. While Capcom conceded a similarity to Monster Hunter, the team differentiated the title by saying this will have an overarching story. The player is accompanied by three party members, ‘Pawns’ who you can issue orders to, but an undefined multiplayer mode has been confirmed to be in the cards.

Dragon’s Dogma is scheduled to come out early next year and you can get extended impressions over at the PlayStation Blog or from Capcom themselves right here:

From the creators behind some of Capcom’s best action games, including the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4, comes their next opus, Dragon’s Dogma. Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma is a unique action experience that blends exciting and fulfilling combat with the freedom to explore and interact in a rich, living and breathing world. With your party of three you set out on an epic adventure to track down and destroy a mysterious dragon. Along the way you’ll encounter some of the biggest and baddest beasts ever to roam the land, and only skilful play and tactical teamwork can save the day.
