playstationstorelogo

Are you looking to stock up on games this fine March morning? Then I suggest you amble over to the PlayStation Store, because Sony is currently running hosting a massive Flash Sale and dozens of games are available for under a dollar.

As with any sale of this kind, there’s a lot of forgotten titles to sift through, but there are also a few good games and a few outright classics. Games like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+, Katamari Damacy, Twisted Metal: Black, Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, Dead Nation (both the PS3 original and the PS4-only Apocalypse Edition), Payday: The Heist, Mega Man X4, Mega Man X5, and many others.

The Flash Sale began Friday, but it doesn’t end until Monday at 2:00 PM (Eastern Time), so there’s still time to go bargain hunting. You can find the full list of deals after the break. (more…)

Kojima says he is “100% involved” with MGS5, but doesn’t confront rumor of split with Konami

hideokojimaopmukKonami and Hideo Kojima issued a joint statement yesterday in the hopes of quieting down rumors that the developer will leave the company after the completion of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Unfortunately, what wasn’t said by either side has overshadowed any firefighting they attempted to do.

In the statement, Kojima said that he is “100% involved” in the development of The Phantom Pain and that his goal is “to make it the greatest game [he’s] directed to date.” However, Kojima did not address rumors that he is leaving Konami and no mention was made of Silent Hills, his upcoming collaboration with director Guillermo Del Toro.

Konami reiterated Kojima’s stance and said he will “remain involved [with The Phantom Pain] throughout.” Like Kojima, the publisher did not go into details on what the developer’s future with the company will be. A few weeks ago, Kojima said he considers The Phantom Pain the “final” Metal Gear game and that he won’t design any future entries in the series. The developer has made this claim before, but it looks like Konami believes him this time as the publisher officially announced an untitled new game in the franchise that won’t have Kojima at the helm. A hiring push to find people to fill out the new Metal Gear team has already begun.

Whatever happens, both parties agree that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch as scheduled on September 1. The full text of their joint statement can be found after the break. (more…)

Kombat Pack confirms Liu Kang and Jax are koming to Mortal Kombat X too

mortalkombatx-header

Tonight’s trailer for the Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack confirmed that Jason Voorhees, The Predator, Tanya, and Tremor will be joining the game after release as downloadable add-on characters. But the accompanying press release revealed that two other unannounced fighters, Liu Kang and Jax, will also be part of the main game.

Liu Kang’s involvement in the game is assured thanks to NetherRealm’s inclusion of a Klassic Liu Kang Skin as part of Klassic Pack #1. Jax will also receive a Klassic Skin (in Klassic Pack #2), but his bonus costume in the Predator/Prey Pack is the one that’ll get people talking. The Predator needs a nemesis and he’ll get one in the form of Dillon, the character played by Carl Weathers in Predator. Weathers will reprise his role as Dillon for the special Predator-Themed Jax Skin.

The complete contents of the Kombat Pack can be found after the break and mark your calendars, Mortal Kombat X is just a few short weeks away. PC, PS4, and Xbox One owners will be able to play it on April 14 while PS3 and Xbox 360 players will have to wait until the Summer. (more…)

NetherRealm officially unveils Kombat Pack with Jason, The Predator, Tanya, and Tremor

After this morning’s Predator leak, NetherRealm Studios has decided to just roll with it and announce all four characters that will be added to Mortal Kombat X as part of the Kombat Pack Season Pass. In addition to Jason Voorhees and The Predator, the Kombat Pack will also give players access to two “Klassic Kombatants”: Tanya and Tremor.

Tanya made her first appearance in Mortal Kombat 4 and would later go on to appear in Deception and Armageddon. Clad in yellow, Tanya is often depicted as a rival to Jade (the Mileena to her Kitana, if you will).

Meanwhile, Tremor is a Black Dragon that has never appeared as a selectable character in any Mortal Kombat game. However, he was momentarily playable in the Challenge Tower of 2012’s Vita port of Mortal Kombat. Prior to that, his only appearance was in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, a beat ’em up spinoff released back in the PlayStation days. But a loyal fan following has finally made his big league call-up a reality.

The Kombat Pack is priced at $29.99, but it’s also included in every Mortal Kombat X special edition. Each character will also be available separately for those who aren’t interested in all four.

Mortal Kombat X will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 14 with a PS3/Xbox 360 port to follow in the Summer.

Xbox.com listing confirms The Predator as a playable character in Mortal Kombat X

predator

Something tells me WB Games and NetherRealm Studios are rather angry with Microsoft right now. An Xbox.com listing for Mortal Kombat X‘s Kombat Pack Season Pass has confirmed that the Predator will be added to the game as a downloadable guest character:

Kombat Pack grants early access to four new playable characters and skin packs. Stalk and slash your opponents as Horror Icon Jason Voorhees, or play as Predator, the Ultimate Hunter. Two Klassic Mortal Kombat characters complete the offer. Each playable character comes with a themed skin pack including three new skins for select characters. Also includes The Samurai Pack available on April 14th 2015.

The Predator’s Mortal Kombat X cameo was first rumored back in February, though NetherRealm’s Creative Director, Ed Boon, teased an appearance from the dreadlocked hunter in July. Now that the Predator is official, we can all ponder what new tack NetheRealm will take on “If it bleeds, we can kill it!”

It’s unknown when the Predator will make his Mortal Kombat X debut (Jason Voorhees was previously described as “the first” DLC character), but the game itself will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 14. The game will also be released later this Summer on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Mortal Kombat X’s sixth Kombat Kast reveals Mileena, Takeda, Kung Jin, Quitalities, more

NetherRealm Studios hosted another “Kombat Kast” yesterday to pull the curtain back a bit more on Mortal Kombat X. Derek Kirtzic, Steve Brownback, and Tyler Lansdown covered a lot of ground in this episode, so let’s not waste any time…

At nine minutes in, we’re treated to our first extensive look at Mileena, including her three variations. Players who pick Mileena will be able to use “Ethereal,” which is heavy on teleportation tricks, “Piercing,” which will add unique sai attacks to her repertoire, and “Ravenous,” which drops the mask and lets Mileena make literal lunch out of her opponent.

At 19 minutes in, Takashi Takeda makes his Mortal Kombat X debut. Takeda is the son of Kenshi and pupil of Scorpion, so his fighting style borrows from both of them. His “Shirai Ryu” variation mimics Scorpion with teleports and his own take on the “Get over here!” spear. His second variation, “Lasher,” gives Takeda electrically-charged whips. And “Ronin” adds Kenshi’s penchant for swordplay to the character.

At 32 minutes in, the developers talk about game modes, including the re-introduction of Test Your Luck, a mode that adds “hundreds” of different modifiers to a fight, three-to-seven of which are chosen randomly before the fight begins. Kustom Kombat takes the randomness out of Test Your Luck by allowing players to choose which modifiers they’d like to use. The full list of modifiers was briefly shown, which hinted at a few unannounced characters including Kabal, Cyrax, Rain, Smoke, and Stryker. This quintet might not make it into the final game, but at the very least, their special moves will. The three develoeprs also confirmed that PS3 fight sticks will be compatible with the PS4 version of Mortal Kombat X during this segment. Sorry, Xbox One owners.

At 47 minutes in, the Kombat Kast shifted focus back onto another new character, Kung Jin, a descendant of Kung Lao. His three variations include “Ancestral,” which features powered-up arrow attacks, “Bojutsu,” which features staff-based attacks, and “Shaolin,” which adds a chakram throwing weapon to his arsenal.

Finally, at 59 minutes in, NetherRealm revealed the Quitality, a new kind of Fatality that explodes your opponent’s head if they quit on you in an online match. The Quitality is not meant to punish the person who quits, but rather, to give the person who stayed in the game a sense of satisfaction.

Mortal Kombat X is a little less than four weeks away and will be released on April 14 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A PS3 and Xbox 360 version will follow in the Summer.

Rumor: Hideo Kojima to leave Konami after release of Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

hideokojimaAre you ready for some DRAMA and INTRIGUE? GameSpot is reporting that Hideo Kojima might be leaving Konami after the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

According to GameSpot, a source within Konami is claiming the publisher wants to push Hideo Kojima out of Kojima Productions along with other senior staff. The insider said Kojima’s employment with the company has already been terminated, and that he’s currently serving out the rest of his contract on a temporary basis. It was also stated that he is being prevented from promoting The Phantom Pain. This report comes on the heels of a shutdown of the Kojima Productions Twitter account and the removal of Hideo Kojima’s name from the official Metal Gear Solid website. Kojima’s name was also removed from a list of Konami executives as the publisher moves to a “headquarters-controlled system.”

Konami, of course, has denied these reports and issued a full statement to GameSpot:

“As we have already announced, we are shifting our production structure to a headquarters-controlled system, in order to establish a steadfast operating base capable of responding to the rapid market changes that surround our digital entertainment business. Konami Digital Entertainment (including Mr. Kojima), will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”

It’s important to note, as GamesRadar did, that there’s no actual proof that Kojima is leaving Konami or that he’s being pushed out. Right now, everything being reported is conjecture, hearsay, and circumstantial evidence. In the end, this could all turn out to be nothing.

After the completion of The Phantom Pain, which will be released on September 1, Kojima was expected to devote his energy to Silent Hills and a collaboration with director Guillermo Del Toro. But right now, all we can do is wait for any “future announcements” from Konami.
