New Retail Releases: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Doom VFR, Resident Evil Revelations Collection, More

Today is Cyber Monday, so your wallet should prepare for DOOM as stores hurl their best discounts in your direction. CD Projekt has delayed Gwent’s single-player campaign into 2018

Gwent launched as an Open Beta for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in May. Since then, developer CD Projekt has delivered multiple tweaks and updates to the game, and a “Full Version” was planned for sometime this Fall. However, it looks like that plan has hit a snag.

Writing on the game’s official website, CD Projekt’s Marcin Iwinski has confirmed the release of Gwent’s “Full Version,” as well as the Thronebreaker single-player campaign, have been pushed back to 2018:

Thronebreaker, Gwent’s story-driven single player campaign, is moving to 2018. We decided to increase the campaign’s scope and need more time to work on it. Shifting release windows is always something we approach seriously, however, we’ll never hesitate to do it if we feel you’ll get a better game as a result. I would like to apologize everyone who planned to play Thronebreaker over the Holidays — I assure you that we will do our best to make the final game worth the additional wait.

But it wasn’t all bad news. Iwinski also said that CD Projekt is planning to “increase the tempo” of multiplayer updates next year, and that fans should expect to see frequent content additions (including “cards, challenges, vanity items, [and] game patches, and balance tweaks”) to the game.

Square Enix details new features coming to Secret of Mana remake

We’re slightly less than three months away from the launch date for Square Enix’s Secret of Mana remake. The multiplayer action RPG was a smash hit on the Super NES all the way back in 1993, but the publisher is looking to make a few changes to the game ahead of its new-generation debut.

A quick rundown of those changes, including the additions of Interlude Episodes and a Game Log, appeared on the Square Enix Blog earlier today:

  • Co-Op Multiplayer – one of the main things we’ve been asked since we announced the remake is whether or not co-op would return, and I’m glad to announce that yes, it will! The Secret of Mana remake will let you play offline multiplayer co-op with up to two other players, so get your friends together! If you’re playing the PlayStation Vita version then you can play ad-hoc multiplayer with up to two friends, each player will need a PS Vita as well as a copy of the game each.
  • Multiplayer Update – we’re not just adding multiplayer, but actually improving it too – now when one player casts magic all other players will be able to continue playing, without having to wait.
  • The Music – the Secret of Mana remake is going to come with a brand new rearranged soundtrack, but for those of you who loved the original (or just want a trip down memory lane) we’re going to include the soundtrack from the original game too, and most importantly, you’ll be able to switch between them whenever you like!
  • Interlude Episodes – these are brand-new to the remake and show all-new scenes and interactions between Randi and the friends he meets on his adventure.
  • Game Log – now you’ll be able to look back at Randi’s adventure to remind yourself of the story so far from the game log. If I don’t play a game for a few days I often forget what last happened, so I’m going to find this particularly useful and I hope you will too.
  • Trophies/Achievements – if you want (and manage) to take on every challenge in Secret of Mana then you’ll probably want to be able to show off how well you’ve done, and now you’ll be able to!

The Secret of Mana remake will be available for the PC, PS4, and Vita on February 15.

Monster of the Deep: FF15, Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier, Batman: Enemy Within Episode 3, more coming to PS Store this week

Most publishers are preparing for their annual Black Friday discounts, so this week’s PlayStation Store update is a tad sparse.

Square Enix is hoping to lure in Final Fantasy fans with Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV, a standalone release of Final Fantasy XV’s fishing minigame that has been “revamped and revitalized” for PlayStation VR.

Also available this week is Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier, a narrative adventure for the PS4 (with motion capture by Andy Serkis) that takes place between Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War For the Planet of the Apes.

Finally this week, Telltale Games will shine the Bat Signal on the PS4 once more with the release of Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 3: Fractured Mask

You can learn more about this week’s additions to the PlayStation Store after the break. And don’t forget about Black Friday 2017 on the PlayStation Store. (more…)
