New Releases: Mass Effect 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, MLB 2K12/MLB 12, More

It’s here. It’s finally here. The grand finale of the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3, will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6. It’s been a long wait (made longer by EA’s decision to delay the game from its original Fall 2011 release date), but it’s almost over.

However, other companies aren’t backing down from the juggernaut that is Commander Shepard…

  • Capcom is bowing their 2D crossover fighter Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3, Xbox 360).
  • A twin bill of baseball games will be available including Sony’s MLB 12: The Show (PS3, Vita) and 2K’s more inclusive Major League Baseball 2K12 (DS, PC, PS2 (!), PS3, PSP (!!), Wii, Xbox 360).
  • Namco Bandai is bringing back the Ridge Racer series in Ridge Racer Unbounded (PS3, Xbox 360), a title that has really managed to stay under the radar.
  • Zipper Interactive (creator of the SOCOM series) will make their Vita debut with Unit 13.
  • And Nintendo wants everyone to do the Mario one more time on the Wii with Mario Party 9.

Even EA isn’t afraid to compete against itself, as the publisher plans to ship The Sims 3: Showtime for the PC this week in both a Limited Edition and a Katy Perry Special Edition (scandalized muppets not included).

Believe it or not, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are even more new releases after the break. (more…)

Daily Scoop: February 28, 2012 – Gold Box Tuesday!

Whew! That was some weekend. I never wanted it to end! I loaded myself up with too much Dungeons and Dragons on Saturday – actually, it wasn’t too much, it was just enough. But I still felt like a glutton. And Sunday I got my fill of board games with half a dozen (losing) games of Pandemic. Sometimes you just want to play until you win, but the mutation isn’t going to let you do that!

Anyway, welcome, ladies and gents, to yet another Gold Box event in video games! Hopefully the Gold Box deals today won’t be as bland as they usually are. I’m sorry, is that too pessimistic?

Here’s our list for today:

  • 6AM PST/9AM EST – “Make hell your battleground in this hot release for the PlayStation Vita” – Army Corps of Hell for the Vita for $29.99!
  • 8AM PST/11AM EST – “Grab your eyepatch for this PSP adventure” – this is LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean for PSP for $13.99!
  • 10AM PST/1PM EST – “The latest installment in the world-renowned series, which has shipped over 100 million units worldwide.” – could this be Final Fantasy XIII-2?
  • 1PM PST/4PM EST – “Turtle Beach’s top-of-the-line XBOX 360 headset” – pretty self-explanatory
  • 3PM PST/6PM EST – “Get a total body dance workout on the Nintendo Wii!” – some kind of fitness game – perhaps Zumba Fitness?
  • 6PM PST/9PM EST – “Its getting dark in here… Again” (Hey Amazon – that should be “It’s getting dark in here.” Get some editors!) – Darkness II, anyone?
  • 8PM PST/11PM EST – “Play with all your favorite toys within this DS game” – we’re thinking Skylanders

On the t-shirt tip, this one is completely unrelated to video games, but any t-shirt that references “The Wire” is a must-buy in my book: (more…)

Daily Scoop: February 20, 2012 – Add some Disgaea to your day!

Well I certainly did do a lot of baking this weekend, and a lot of writing, but not nearly as much video gaming as I wanted. I did go to the movies, and play some Dungeons & Dragons, and watched “The Walking Dead,” of course. And ate lots and lots and lots of food. Yum!

So what’s the big deal for today? I’m happy to say it’s Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games, which is the Premium Edition of Atlus’ Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. If you’ve never played this series, there’s no better time than now – grab that up for $39.99, and maybe find a cheap deal on the PSP version of Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, and say goodbye to your free time for the next few… months.

There’s also a fantastic video game related shirt today: (more…)

The Vita has arrived in this week’s PSN update

With the Vita First Edition Bundle now available in stores, Sony has flooded the PlayStation Network with games and content for the handheld system.

A total of sixteen Vita games are now available for your playing pleasure including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Lumines: Elecronic Symphony, Wipeout 2048, and many, many more. PlayStation Store exlcusives Escape Plan and Super Stardust Delta are also now available to download.

But don’t think Sony has forgotten the PS3 (or PSP) just because the Vita is vying for your affection. A Move-compatible version of The House of The Dead III and Worms: Ultimate Mayhem can be had for your PS3 while Hakuoki: Demon of The Fleeting Blossom is available for the PSP.

And let’s not forget that demos for Mass Effect 3 and Binary Domain can be downloaded today as well.

Wow. You can check out all the games available in this week’s update after the break and for a full list of all of this week’s new game add-ons, I refer you to the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

New Releases: Vita First Edition, Twisted Metal, UFC Undisputed 3, More

It’s a fight for the hearts of gamers everywhere in this week’s new release roundup as the octagonal orgy of ouchies that is UFC Undisputed 3 (PS3, Xbox 360) goes up against the open-world vehicular violence of Twisted Metal (PS3).

But the real fight this week is for the wallets of gamers everywhere as Sony plans to put out the PlayStation Vita First Edition Bundle and the first wave of Vita software including Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, Little Deviants, Lumines: Electronic Symphony, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, and more.

Nintendo, and other publishers, plan to counter this onslaught with a trio of big 3DS games of their own including Tales of the Abyss, Tekken 3D: Prime Edition, and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

You can check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
