Sega unveils Team Sonic Racing comic and final episode of Sonic Mania Adventures at Comic-Con 2018

Earlier this week, we were promised that Sega had several Sonic-related announcements to make at the mascot’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, “Sonic the Hedgehog’s Way Past Cool Panel.”

In addition to releasing the final mini-episode of Sonic Mania Adventures (which you can find after the break), Sega and IDW Publishing announced that a special Team Sonic Racing comic will be released this October. According to IDW’s official website, the one-shot story will be written by Caleb Goellner (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), with art by longtime Sonic the Hedgehog artist Adam Bryce Thomas:

Sonic and his teammates Knuckles and Tails journey to a new planet and enter a race unlike any other! With a little help from friends like Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and a few other familiar faces, Sonic must race to prevent an old foe from obtaining a powerful new technology in this story by writer Caleb Goellner (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and longtime Sonic The Hedgehog artist Adam Bryce Thomas.

“I’m so stoked to write Sonic! It’s been a dream of mine ever since my dad surprised me with my first Sonic comic in ’92, so I can’t wait for fans to take this issue for a Spin Dash,” says Caleb Goellner. “It’s been an honor to be on a team working to deliver an issue that’s as fun to read as Team Sonic Racing is to play.”

The Team Sonic Racing game will be available for the PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One sometime this Fall/Winter. And Sonic Mania Plus is available now for the same four platforms. (more…)

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 + 2, Galak-Z: Variant S, Pool Panic, more coming to Nintendo eShop this week

Nintendo (with an assist from Capcom) has a MEGA-sized update planned for the Nintendo eShop this week.

That’s because all eight Mega Man X will soon be available for the Nintendo Switch thanks to the Mega Man X Legacy Collection and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2. Players can relive the classic side-scrolling action from the 90s in Legacy Collection 2, while Legacy Collection 2 includes the later games released in the early 2000s. But both collections will include the brand new X Challenge Mode, which pits players against two deadly bosses in two-on-one battles.

Also available to download for the Switch this week is Galak-Z: Variant S, a space-shooting Action RPG that lets players tangle with an evil baron’s army of nasty troops. But if you’d prefer something a little weirder, Adult Swim Games will launch Pool Panic, a Switch game that turns the entire world into a giant pool table (and adds bizarro faces to all the balls).

You can learn more about the rest of this week’s additions to the Nintendo eShop (including Hungry Shark World, Guts and Glory, Bomb Chicken, and more) after the break. (more…)

Nintendo is planning “further updates” for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already includes dozens of tracks and characters from across Nintendo’s wide stable of franchises. But it’s about to get even bigger sometime in the near future.

Shinya Takahashi, the General Manager of Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning and Development division, recently sat down to talk about some of his favorite Switch games in a new video on Twitter. Before discussing his love for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2, the developer confirmed that “further updates” are coming soon to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:

Now you are able to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe using the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Motorbike. So whether you’ve been using bikes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or not, please try playing with the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Motorbike. There will be further updates for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so please look forward to it.

Personally, I’d love to see Samus Aran make her Mario Kart debut in a future update (she wouldn’t even need a kart!).
