PS Store Today: MLB 14: The Show, Mercenary Kings, Batman Blackgate, more

batmanarkhamasylumanimatedIt’s another big week for the PlayStation Store as Sony has added almost ten games to their digital storefront.

PlayStation 4 owners will want to check out Mercenary Kings. The 2D shooter has been described as Borderlands meets Metal Slug and it has been inducted into the Instant Game Collection for PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you’re not a Plus subscriber, Mercenary Kings will set you back $19.99.

Over on the PS3, WB Games has re-released the formerly Vita-exclusive Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate as a “Deluxe Edition” on the PS3. The Batman side-scroller will be joined by another game that makes use of the 2D plane, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, the latest fighter from Arc System Works. And just in time for Opening Day, PS3 owners will also be able to download MLB 14: The Show today. MLB 14 is also available for the Vita, but it isn’t a Cross-Buy title. Speaking of the Vita, action RPG Ragnarok Odyssey Ace was added to the PS Store by XSEED. Like MLB 14, a PS3 version is also available.

Rounding out this week’s new releases is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs The Soulless Army, a PS2 Classic from Atlus’ long-running RPG series, and Jimmie Johnson’s Anything With An Engine, a kart racer starring NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

More details on all of these titles can be found after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

New Releases: The Elder Scrolls Online, MLB 14: The Show, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace

newreleases040114

Just three new retail releases this week, but all three can be considered very important to somebody.

Bethesda will release The Elder Scrolls Online for the PC on April 4. The MMORPG, the first for the franchise, has been a long time coming and fans are eager to see if it can stack up to the Skyrim and Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls Online is also in development for the PS4 and Xbox One and will be available in June.

With 2K dropping out of the baseball simulation competition, Sony will be releasing the year’s only baseball simulation this year, MLB 14: The Show. The PS3 and Vita versions of the game will be released on April 1 with a PS4 version planned for May.

Finally this week, XSEED will bring their monster hunter, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, to the PS3 and Vita. People like the series, so that qualifies as “important” in my book.

Fez, Deception IV, The Witch and the Hundred Knight, more added to PS Store

fez-boxOne of the greatest puzzle platformers of the previous generation, Fez, is now available to download from the PlayStation Store. And it doesn’t even matter which PlayStation platform you own. Fez has been released as a Cross-Buy title on the PS3, PS4, and Vita, so you can play it wherever you are. Several other multiplatform releases are available this week, but sadly, they’re not Cross-Buy purchases.

Tecmo Koei will bring the hack and slash gameplay of Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends back to the PS3 and Vita. For its PS4 release, the standalone expansion will be bundled with the original Dynasty Warriors 8 as Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends – Complete Edition. The publisher will also release the latest game in their popular trap-setting series, Deception IV: Blood Ties, for the PS3 and Vita this week. In non-multiplatform release news, NIS America also added The Witch and The Hundred Knight to the PlayStation Store yesterday.

Finally, a new Call of Duty: Ghosts bundle that include the original game and the Onslaught Map Pack is available to download on both the PS3 and PS4.

More information about all of these games (as well as a few others) can be found after the break. And a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Lego’s popular Ninjago line will receive a second video game adaptation this Summer when WB Games brings Lego Ninjago: Nindroids to the 3DS and Vita.

Developed by Hellbent Games (in partnership with TT Games), Nindroids will include 30 levels of action and puzzle-based gameplay adapted from events in the Lego Ninjago Rebooted animated show. Players will train in the art of special moves and combo attacks to become a “Spinjitsu Master” as they defend New Ninjago City:

Lego Ninjago: Nindroids players will face their greatest challenge as they work to protect New Ninjago City from the Overlord’s Nindroid army. Infiltrate Borg Tower, fly the Kai Fighter and face off against the evil Tech Wu. Take to the streets in Cole’s Earth Mech and Jay’s Thunder Raider, defend the skies in Zane’s Ninjacopter, escape Pythor on Lloyd’s Golden Cycle, and enter the Digiverse for an epic final battle. Story mode features additional favorite characters like Nya, Sensei Garmadon, Samurai X, and PIXAL.

WB Games also announced that Lego Battles: Ninjago, which was released exclusively for the DS in 2011, has sold two million copies to date.

Mighty No. 9’s GDC 2014 trailer is mega-tastic

I’ve got good news! Especially if you were 10 years old in 1990… Keiji Inafune and Comcept have unveiled another trailer for Mighty No. 9 during their Game Developers Conference presentation!

After Inafune left Capcom, the publisher left Mega Man, his best-known creation, to flounder amid a sea of cancellations and cameos. But the developer has distilled the essence of Mega Man into Mighty No. 9 and produced a game that is looking less “homage” and more “unauthorized sequel” every time we see it. And that’s a good thing. He even patterned Mighty No. 9’s boss robots on the Robot Masters from the original Mega Man. My inner 10-year-old gives this trailer seven thumbs up.

Inafune funded the side-scrolling shooter last year through a mega-successful Kickstarter campaign that ensured the game will be released for nearly every platform imaginable: 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

MGS5: Ground Zeroes, Luftrausers, InFamous: Second Son, more added to PS Store

infamoussecondson-header

Your eyes do not deceive you, this is reality… Sony has updated their virtual storefront, the PlayStation Store, with a ton of new games.

Leading the way is Sony’s next major PS4 release, InFamous: Second Son. Second Son will spin off with a new main character (Delsin) and a new locale (Seattle) because Cole McGrath lost his life at the end of InFamous 2. In a break from tradition, you’ll have to wait until Friday (March 21) to continue your infamous ways.

Also available for the PS4 this week is Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Hideo Kojima’s prologue to the next Metal Gear game, and Stealth Inc.: Ultimate Edition, a next-gen upgrade to the popular puzzle platformer. Ground Zeroes is also available to download from the PS3 section of the store. Finally, the mining platformer SteamWorld Dig makes the next-generation leap in a special PS4/Vita Cross-Buy edition.

But don’t think the PS3 is being left out in this week’s PlayStation Store update. The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has finally been released (it’s available on the Vita too), along with Tecmo Koei’s insane zombie slasher, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and Vlambeer’s dogfighting sim, Luftrausers (which was released as a PS3/Vita Cross-Buy title).

More information on all of these games can be found after the break and a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

New Releases: MGS5: Ground Zeroes, InFamous: Second Son, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, More

newreleases031814

TitanFall made a huge splash last week, but a new set of publishers are ready to compete for your gaming dollar this week with a new set of games. Are you ready? Here we go…

Konami and Kojima Productions will release Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for next-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) and current-generation consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360) this week. The game will serve as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which does not currently have a release date, and will serve as an introduction to the franchise’s brand new open world mechanics.

Also available this week is the next major PS4 exclsuive from Sony, InFamous: Second Son. With Second Son, the InFamous series gains a new protagonist and a new city to wreak havoc in. And speaking of havoc, Tecmo Koei will release Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, a wild collaboration between Team Ninja, Spark Unlimited, and Keiji Inafune’s Comcept, for the PS3 and Xbox 360 this week.

Finally, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will bring the beloved pair of games to the PS3 and Vita this week. It will be joined the week’s lone Wii U release, the kart racing game Hello Kitty Kruisers.
