Warp Zoned’s Fall 2014 Preview Presents the Video Game Fantasy League

It’s Over! Click Here to See the Winner!
With its spreadsheets, massive drafting guides, and heavy emphasis on statistics, your average Fantasy Football league is run more like a role-playing game than a sports contest. So as we were putting together our Fall gaming preview, we thought, why not combine the two? And thus was born… the Video Game Fantasy League.
Warp Zoned’s staff got together and “drafted” eight games from this Fall’s release schedule in hopes of creating the best-reviewed team of games. The rules are simple. Each staff member was required to draft a PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U game. The final two positions were reserved for a handheld game (3DS or Vita) and a Wild Card slot that could be filled with a game from any platform. Points are scored based on how well-reviewed each game is and points are locked in based on a game’s Metacritic average a month after a game has been released. Any game delayed into 2015 will receive a big fat zero.
Our draft, and the games we’re most looking forward to this Fall, looks a little something like this… (more…)
Nintendo Download: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy 2, Cooking Mama 5, FIFA 15, more

It’s a 3DS bonanza this week in the Nintendo Download.
Square Enix has released Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, the sequel to their fan favorite Final Fantasy rhythm game. Bigger in every way, Curtain Call includes “221 songs and more than 60 characters” to tap away the hours. Another big sequel available this week is Majesco’s Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appetit. The fifth helping of Cooking Mama includes more than 60 recipes. And finally, EA Sports has confirmed that FIFA 15 will be available to download through the 3DS eShop on Tuesday, September 23.
Of course, the real big news this week is that the Super Smash Bros. For 3DS demo will be available to all beginning tomorrow. Just in case you were on the fence, Nintendo’s got you covered.
More information on all of these titles (including a few more and a trio of new downloadable games for the Wii U) can be found after the break. (more…)

See Bayonetta cosplay as Nintendo characters in new Bayonetta 2 trailer
Have you ever wanted to see Bayonetta dress up as Star Fox, Link, Samus Aran, or Princess Peach? Well, you’ll get your chance in Bayonetta 2. The trailer embedded above showcases the wicked witch’s new looks as well as the special attacks that come bundled with her new outfits. Donning Link’s green tunic allows Bayonetta to wield a mighty bow and slipping into Samus Aran’s Varia Suit opens up the Screw Attack as well as the Morph Ball. Despite what the trailer says, these costume changes aren’t mere “cosplay.”
Bayonetta 2 (which will be bundled with the original Bayonetta) will be available exclusively for the Wii U on October 24.

More evidence for Super Smash Bros. For Wii U’s 11/21 release uncovered in Nintendo ad

While the official release date for Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is still “Winter 2014,” evidence continues to mount that the game will be released on November 21.
Following a suspicious reservation card found at Fred Meyer, this latest leak comes from Nintendo themselves. A French site, Puissance Nintendo (spotting by CVG), has received advertising from Nintendo promoting the November 21 release date for Super Smash Bros. For Wii U:
You may have noticed a commercial for Hyrule Warriors is currently being broadcast on PN. But this ad reveals vital information about Super Smash Bros due out later this winter on Wii U. According to Nintendo’s advertising, Super Smash Bros For Wii U should land in Europe on November 21.
At this point, I would be more surprised if Super Smash Bros. For Wii U wasn’t released on November 21.

Ubisoft unveils complete Just Dance 2015 soundtrack
Ubisoft is putting out another Just Dance game this Fall and today they’ve unveiled the game’s complete soundtrack. The enture track list can be found after the break and you’ll probably be quite happy if you like musicians such as Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Icona Pop, and Charli XCX. Oh, and Pharrell’s “Happy” is on the list too.
Just Dance 2015 will be released for the PS3, PS4, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 21. (more…)
Super Smash Bros. For Wii U includes 3DS controller option, may be released in November

There’s a very good chance that Super Smash Bros. For Wii U will be released in November. And it’s not just because November is the only part of 2014 that can reasonably be considered part of the holiday shopping season (December doesn’t count because publishers routinely avoid the month altogether).
GameSpot is reporting that west coast retailer Fred Meyer is selling reservation cards advertising a November 21 release for Smash Bros. Wii U. It’s possible this is just a placeholder date, but as I said, it’s a logical time to launch Smash Bros. Wii U and it’s also a week before Black Friday… which makes it even more logical. That also gives Super Smash Bros. For 3DS a six-week window to breathe after its October 3 release date.
And speaking of the 3DS, in a separate report, GameSpot has confirmed that players will be able to use their 3DS handheld as a controller in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. Smash Bros. Wii U already supports the Wii U GamePad, the Wii U Pro Controller, the Wii Remote/Nunchuk combo, and the GameCube controller (with a special adapter), so I’m not sure if there’s anybody out there lamenting the fact they couldn’t use their 3DS system as a controller before. That said, this news will make multiplayer matches look that much crazier.

Mega Man 7 is now available on the Wii U eShop
Nintendo’s Treehouse branch has been running a livestream of some of their upcoming games all day, but there’s been a few surprises as well. For example, did you hear that Mega Man 7 is now available to download through the Wii U eShop?
Priced at $7.99, the addition of the (relatively) obscure Super NES title means that the first seven games in the classic Mega Man series are now playable on the Wii U. Mega Man X and Mega Man X2 can also be found on the eShop (and are currently on sale to boot).
If you want to catch up with all the action, tune in to the livestream now, they’re still going until 11:00 PM (Eastern Time).
Madden NFL 15 spikes the competition by outselling all games in August 2014
Even though his stance said, “stop,” Richard Sherman took it to the house as the cover athlete of Madden NFL 15. While it’s too early to be concerned with The Curse, EA Sports’ latest football sim, as expected, toppled the competition and emerged as the best-selling game of August 2014, according to The NPD Group.
Only a small number of new releases made their way onto store shelves last month and many of them were re-releases of older titles. This tactic helped Diablo III: Reaper of Souls reach the #2 spot as the “Ultimate Evil Edition” is now available for previous-generation and current-generation consoles. And thanks to its PlayStation debut, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare cracked the top ten for the first time at #7.
Joystiq posits that this lack of major releases is the reason why game sales were down when compared to last August. The eighth month of 2013 saw the release of Madden NFL 25 as well as Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Saints Row IV, and Disney Infinity.
A full look at the top ten best-selling games of August 2014 can be found after the break. (more…)
