Sheik, Darunia, Ruto join Hyrule Warriors as Link wields the Ball and Chain in latest trailer
Link is a one man wrecking machine in the latest Hyrule Warriors trailer released by Koei Tecmo Japan. Everyone’s favorite elf has bulked up thanks to the Power Gloves and the Ball and Chain. The Power Gloves increase his strength and allow him to throw around massive boulders like they’re basketballs. Meanwhile, the Ball and Chain is an awesome weapon that bashes through hordes of enemies like a wrecking ball. Boom!
Also on the Hyrule Warriors news front, Famitsu (via Computer and Video Games) has revealed that a trio of characters from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have been added to the hack and slash adventure. Sheik (who is actually Princess Zelda in ninja garb), Darunia (leader of the Gorons), and Ruto (Princess of the Zoras) will all be playable in Hyrule Warriors.
I’m sure we’ll get new trailers showcasing all three characters soon enough as Hyrule Warriors will be released in Japan on August 14. The North American launch of the Wii U title will follow on September 26.

Mighty No. 9’s monthly trailer blitz includes a look at Call
Keiji Inafune and the development team at Comcept have gotten into the habit of unveiling a new trailer for Mighty No. 9 every month. For the July trailer, the team has given us a sneak peek at Mighty No. 9’s sidekick, Call. The developer has also shone a spotlight on the dash mechanic and the many transformations at Mighty No. 9’s disposal.
Mighty No. 9 will be released for the 3DS, PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in Spring 2015.
June 2014 NPD: Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 are the top-selling titles once again

Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 once again reign supreme over the monthly sales chart as The NPD Group has confirmed the two titles were #1 and #2, respectively, in their June 2014 top-selling games report. The two games were part of a trend that included other May releases such as Minecraft (#3) and Wolfenstein: The New Order (#7).
The only June releases to crack the top ten were EA Sports UFC (#4) and Tomodachi Life (#9),
With Microsoft’s Kinect-less Xbox One hit store shelves in June, so the battle between the next-generation heated up just as the thermometer did. According to Joystiq, the PS4 once again topped the Xbox One, though all console sales more than doubled (a 106% increase, to be exact) the month of May. Ultimate, the entire industry saw a 24% increase in sales over the last month… and that includes a big jump in Wii U hardware sales too.
You can view the complete top ten chart for the month of June after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Strike Force Foxx, Mr. Driller 2, Comic Workshop

Rounding out a strangely slow week for digital releases is Nintendo’s latest eShop update. Three games will attempt to fight for your downloadable dollar and they are:
Wii U eShop
Mr. Driller 2 – Armed with a mighty drill, dig deep through multicolored blocks until reaching safety. Not all of the blocks will be breakable, but be careful that the blocks you break don’t fall on you or cut off your air supply. How deep can you dig underground?
3DS eShop
Strike Force Foxx – Take control of Captain Raymond Foxx as you guide your Razor-One helicopter through intense missions, battling the enemy and saving your citizens. Take to the air in your helicopter in more than 35 missions to eliminate numerous obstacles, including gunmen, tanks, helicopters, planes, machine-gunning jeeps, heat-seeking missiles, gunboats and submarines.
Comic Workshop – With Comic Workshop, you will be able to easily create Comics and Manga, step by step, thanks to the various tools available. From frame’s management to text entry, everything you need to make the best creations is gathered in this software.
Adam West will play himself in Lego Batman 3

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will launch Batman (and the rest of the Justice League) into outer space for an intergalactic adventure against Brainiac. And it looks like they’re bringing Adam West with them:
Holy LEGO mini figures, Batman. It's Adam West! #LEGOBatmanGame #SDCC pic.twitter.com/QuqybSJ46J
— LEGO Batman (@LEGOBatmanGame) July 15, 2014
The official Twitter account for the Lego Batman game series posted this image yesterday, confirming that West will actually be playing himself in the sequel. Let’s hope he feels the need to ask the Caped Crusader, “Why doesn’t Batman dance anymore?”
We’ll likely get a sneak peek of West’s contribution to the game during TT Games’ Lego Batman 3 panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (Sunday, July 27 at 1:00 PM). West will be a busy man during this year’s Comic-Con as he’ll also be promoting the upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release of the 1960s Batman television series in a panel on Thursday, July 24. How does he do it? Pure… West…
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will be available for the 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this Fall.
Captain Falcon, Lucina, Robin, Female Robin join the Super Smash Bros. 4 roster
Nintendo has announced that a few characters you may not be familiar with will be joining Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U.
Captain Falcon (of F-Zero fame) has appeared in all three previous Smash Bros. games, so his inclusion in Smash 4 shouldn’t be much of a surprise. But new to the fighting franchise are three other characters revealed today: Lucina, Robin, and Female Robin. Lucina and Robin were two of the main characters in the recently released Fire Emblem: Awakening. Female Robin, as you may have guessed, is just a gender-swapped version of Robin. All three are quick sword fighters, with the Robins also having the ability to rain lightning bolts down upon their opponents.
There’s still three months to go before Super Smash Bros. For 3DS launches on October 3, so there’s plenty of time for Nintendo to announce additional playable characters for the next Smash game.

Skyward Sword’s Fi joins Hyrule Warriors in this new trailer
What do you do when you’ve created trailers specifically tailored around all the currently announced characters in your game? You announce more characters! And that’s just what Koei Tecmo Japan did when they revealed that Fi, the sword spirit from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, will be a playable character in Hyrule Warriors.
In a unique twist, Fi doesn’t use a sword in her fighting style. Instead, because she’s the physical personification of a magical sword, the character uses melee attacks to weaken the enemy mob before. Of course, in the end, she transforms into a sword and smashes down on the battlefield to take out those that remain. It’s pretty impressive.
Hyrule Warriors will be available for the Wii U on September 26. A part of me hopes the next character trailer will introduce everyone’s favorite cave-dwelling Old Man: “It’s dangerous to go alone… except for me!”

Wii U version of Project CARS skids into 2015

Lee Kirton, Bandai Namco UK’S Marketing and PR Director, has confirmed that the Wii U version of Slightly Mad’s Project CARS will miss its originally planned November release date. The racing simulation will now be available for Nintendo’s console sometime in 2015:
To confirm .@WMDCars #projectcars will release November on #ps4 #xboxone #pc and #WiiU is coming 2015
— Lee Kirton (@Leearigold) July 11, 2014
While this is disappointing news for Wii U owners, Project CARS on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One will be released this November as previously announced.
