Meet Sticks, the newest character addition to Sonic Boom

Sticks is a brand-new character for the Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Sonic Boom. As you can see from the video, she’s a wild animal, and it seems like she’s going to be a total badass. She’s best friends with Amy, and is appreciative of having a crew she can run with instead of being on her own.

Sonic Boom will be available for the Wii U and 3DS this Fall along with an accompanying television series, which will air on Cartoon Network.

1001 Spikes, another one of those insanely unforgivable platforming games, will be released on June 3 for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U. Fans of similarly difficult Spelunky will be excited to be able to die in new and different ways!

That’s not all. Nicalis has announced that the PSN version will feature Cross-Buy, so that players will pay $14.99 to get both versions of the game. If you already own Nicalis’ Cave Story or NightSky on Steam or the 3DS, the company is offering a $5 loyalty discount as well.

1001 Spikes will have both single-player and multiplayer modes, and the multiplayer modes will include both co-op and versus. It’s also got unlockable guest characters, an awesome chiptune soundtrack, multiple possible endings, and plenty of levels to curse through.

1001 Spikes will be released for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U on June 3. Hit the jump for the full press release. (more…)

Comcept closes out “Mighty May” with Mighty No. 9 gameplay trailer

Comcept has released a handful of trailers showcasing their progress on Mighty No. 9 since the completion of the Kickstarter campaign last Fall. But today’s new gameplay trailer, released to celebrate the end of “Mighty May,” is the most impressive yet. You might even say it is mega cool, man.

The trailer focuses on the icy locale that Mighty No. 2 calls home and the more industrial digs of Mighty No. 5. And unlike the previous “work-in-progress” trailers, this one features some beautiful backgrounds and gorgeous graphical effects, as well as a ton of enemies and environmental objects. Basically, it’s starting to look like a finished game.

According to Comcept, development on Mighty No. 9 will be completed over the course of the next 12 months and we should all be able to get our hands on it in Spring 2015. And I do mean all as Mighty No. 9 is in development for the 3DS, PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Nintendo Download: Mario Kart 8 (Friday), Ittle Dew, Mega Man Xtreme 2, more

mariokart8-header

Vroom! Vroom! It’s Mario Kart 8 time as the latest entry in Nintendo long-running racing series will be available to download from the Wii U eShop beginning tomorrow. And don’t forget, every Wii U owner who purchases Mario Kart 8 will also be able to download one of the following games for free: New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, or Wii Party U. Not a bad deal at all.

Also available to download from the Wii U eShop this week is Ittle Dew, an overhead adventure game that bears more than a passing resemblance to The Legend of Zelda. Joining Ittle Dew is Klonoa: Empire of Dream, a platformer originally released for the Game Boy Advance; Luv Me Buddies Wonderland, a minigame collection starring a bunch of cuddly puppies; and Gravity Badgers, a puzzle game that combines gravity-based physics puzzles and badgers. Hey… why not?

Mega Man Xtreme 2 is the only new game available on the 3DS eShop this week. The game, which was originally released for the Game Boy Color, was Mega Man’s second and final release for Nintendo’s first color handheld.

More information on all of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)

nintendologo

Well, this is an interesting development. Nintendo has announced that they’re working on an adapter that will allow GameCube controllers to be used with the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. 4:

Super Smash Bros. 4 will be available for the Wii U by the end of the year, but it’s currently unknown if the adapter will launch alongside it or at a later date. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about it during this year’s E3 Expo, which begins on June 9.

Pushmo World will be released for Wii U on June 19

Pushmo World, developed by Intelligent Systems, is coming to the Wii U on June 19th. It is the third game in the Pushmo series, which also includes 2011’s Pushmo and 2012’s Crashmo. What’s different, and notable, with this game is that it is the first game to be playable on a console, rather than previous entries which were available only for the 3DS.

Similar to its predecessors, “Pushmo World finds players pushing, pulling, and climbing blocks to solve a collection of more than 250 new puzzles.” Billed as a game with wide appeal, for kids and more advanced gamers alike, “players are tasked with solving three-dimensional block-based puzzles by moving blocks to climb to the top of structures. As the game progresses, the puzzles get larger and more complex, with some massive, screen-filling creations resembling familiar objects, animals, and even classic Nintendo characters.”

New to Pushmo World is the World Pushmo Fair, which is an in-game community space wherein players can download and share new puzzles they create using the Pushmo Studio. The developers will be adding new puzzles to the game through the World Pushmo Fair as well ensuring a “near-endless amount” of puzzles for Pushmo World.

To celebrate the upcoming release, Nintendo is discounting Pushmo (to $4.69) and Crashmo (to $5.99) in the 3DS eShop now through June 13th at 11:59 AM ET. Pushmo World will then be available the following week in the Wii U eShop for $9.99.

Mario Kart 8 director “not ruling out” Smash Bros.-like expansion of franchise’s roster

mariokart8-header

Nintendo is all set to give Mario Kart 8 the green light this Friday, May 30. But before you dig in to the Wii U debut of the series, you should check out this Nintendo Life interview with the game’s director, Kosuke Yabuki. Yabuki is proud of his work on Mario Kart 8, but he’s already thinking ahead to Mario Kart 9. And there’s a strong possibility that the racer lineup in the next entry could be expanded to include characters from other Nintendo franchises, Super Smash Bros.-style.

“We’re always considering ways to make the Mario Kart games more appealing, but I don’t think that just increasing the number of characters would make the game better,” Yabuki said. “Of course, I’m not ruling out the possibility of [a Super Smash Bros. approach to the roster] in the future though.”

Obviously, this is far from a done deal. If development on the next Mario Kart game has even begun, it’s likely still in the very early stages. But a Nintendo-wide expansion to the game’s character roster, a “Super Smash Kart” if you will, would be very interesting.

Yup… Very. Interesting.
