No update on CoD: Black Ops II DLC for Wii U

After its month of Xbox Live exclusivity, Treyarch today released the first Call of Duty: Black Ops II map pack, Revolution, on the PC and PS3. Priced at $14.99, the pack includes three new multiplayer maps, a new Zombies map, a new Zombies gametype, and a new gun.

Now the question becomes, when will the Revolution be televised on the Wii U?

Activision’s Community Manager, Dan Amrich, took up the question today during his weekly videocast, One of Swords TV. After hemming and hawing for a few minutes, Amrich confirmed, “I don’t know.”

However, he did promise that when Black Ops II’s DLC does get a Wii U release, the news will appear on his blog, One of Swords.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag officially announced

assassinscreed4-large-boxYarr! Ubisoft has opened their treasure chest and confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be the next game in the series. All we’ve got to go on right now is the official boxart seen to your right (click to enlarge), but check out the awesome Assassin insignia/Jolly Roger pirate flag.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be available for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Just like Assassin’s Creed III, the PS3 version of the game will include exclusive content. For Black Flag, Ubisoft is producing a PS3 version that includes “60 minutes of exclusive gameplay.”

It’s unknown if the game will be coming to the PS4 or the (soon-to-be-announced) Xbox 720, but I’d say it’s a fair bet. This is Ubisoft we’re talking about, after all.

Nintendo Download: Runner 2, Retro City Rampage, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, more

runner2-header

It’s another big week for Nintendo’s download services… and we even get another Wii U game.

That game is Gaijin Games’ Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien. The platformer, which stars everyone’s favorite monochrome mascot, CommanderVideo, is available today is both demo and full version form.

Also available this week is Konami’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate. The 3DS side-story that bridges the gap between the two Lords of Shadow games on the PS3/Xbox 360 is available now as a demo, with the full game set to hit the 3DS eShop on Tuesday, March 5.

Finally, this week finally marks the release of Retro City Rampage on the Wii Shop Channel. An 8-bit-styled, open-world game reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto’s early days, Retro City Rampage on the Wii includes the special “ROM City Rampage” mode, which morphs the game into a true 8-bit adventure that would have worked on the NES.

Hit the jump for more details on all of these games as well as three other additions to this week’s Nintendo Download. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demo, F-Zero, Etrian Odyssey IV, more

monsterhunter3ultimate-header

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be available for the 3DS and Wii U on March 19, but you can download a demo from the Nintendo eShop beginning today! If monster-slaying isn’t your thing, two other demos, Trine 2: Director’s Cut on the Wii U eShop and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the 3DS eShop, are now available.

Wii U gamers will also get a chance into the past this week with F-Zero. The Super NES classic has been priced at 30 cents for a limited time, so if Captain Falcon stirs fond memories in your Nintendo thumb, now’s the time to buy.

Finally this week, we have a quartet of 3DS game downloads…

  • Picdun 2: Witch’s Curse is a dungeon-crawling RPG from developer Intense.
  • Viking Invasion 2 is a tower defense game with vikings.
  • Yoshi is the NES puzzle game, re-released for the 3DS’ Virtual Console.
  • And Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan is the latest RPG from Atlus. It’ll be available on Tuesday, February 26.

More information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

The Amazing Spider-Man: Ultimate Edition swings onto Wii U on March 5

We knew that The Amazing Spider-Man would spin his web on the Wii U in an “Ultimate Edition” containing the main game and all of the previously released downloadable content. But now we know when… Activision will release the game for the Wii U on March 5.

In addition to all four previously released DLC packs (including the “Amazing Stan Lee Adventure”), the Ultimate Edition will include a pair of Wii U-specific features:

Transform the Wii U GamePad with the Oscorp OsPhone – Access Spidey’s in-game cell phone via the GamePad to accept new challenges, navigate the city, and manage his upgrades.

Off-Screen Mode – Lets users swap instantly between playing on the big screen and the GamePad whenever they choose.

According to Amazon, The Amazing Spider-Man: Ultimate Edition will be priced at $59.99. Let’s hope that’s a typo.

Angry Birds Trilogy sells a million; Wii U, Wii versions dropping this year

AngryBirdsCoverThe Angry Birds fly high regardless of what platform they’re on. Activision has revealed that their HD compilation of the first three games, Angry Birds Trilogy, has “soared” past one million copies sold worldwide. The 3DS, PS3, and Xbox 360 game was originally released in September. To celebrate (and in a quest for more money), Activision and Rovio have announced that Angry Birds Trilogy will be released on the Wii U and the Wii by the end of the year.

“It was certainly satisfying to see Angry Birds gameplay adapt so well to other platforms in 2012,” said Petri Jarvilehto, Executive Vice President of Games for Rovio. “The features specific to the Wii U are very intriguing to us, so we’re excited to release this version to fans.”

Those Wii U-specific features will likely involve the use of the Wii U GamePad to fling birds at those crafty swine.

The Aliens: Colonial Marines saga so far

alienscolonialmarines-header

By now, you’ve probably heard at least some of the sordid details surrounding the development process of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Did Gearbox push the majority of the development duties onto TimeGate Studios in order to have more time to work on Borderlands 2? Was the game rewritten and reworked multiple times in the six-year development cycle? What happened to the Wii U version?

Destructoid has compiled a pretty thorough timeline of the events so far and it makes excellent afternoon reading. It’s a much better use of your time than watching Alien 3, that’s for sure.

Aliens: Colonial Marines has turned out to be more than just a bad game. It’s a confusing story of allegations, outsourcing, and potential deception on a considerable level. The biggest mystery to come out of this debacle is the question of who actually made the game. Nobody’s entirely sure.

And sadly (or not, you know, because of all the bad reviews), it looks like the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines has been postponed indefinitely.
