Wreck-It Ralph joins Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed as guest driver

Sega has announced that the titular star of Disney’s upcoming movie Wreck-It Ralph will join NASCAR driver Danica Patrick as a guest racer in the upcoming Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Masanao Maeda, Chairman and Chief Content Officer for Sega of America, was bursting with enthusiasm when the newest addition to the racing roster was made public: “Wreck-It Ralph will make a great addition to our stellar cast in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Disney has created a unique film experience that will appeal to gamers of all ages, and our video game collaboration will give fans the opportunity to interact with their character on the small screen as well.”

Wreck-It Ralph‘s director Rich Moore was also over the moon about the character’s inclusion in Sega’s racer: “To have Wreck-It Ralph included in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a dream come true. The film pays homage to the video games I loved as a kid, including Sonic the Hedgehog in a special cameo, so being able to see Wreck-It Ralph in a real video game alongside Sonic and other iconic Sega characters is unbelievably exciting for me and should be a treat for fans!”

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will launch in November for Xbox 360, PC, PS3, Vita, 3DS and Wii U. Wreck-It Ralph debuts in cinemas that same month, along with a Wii and 3DS game of the same name.

Miyamoto wants Metroid, Star Fox on Wii U

Just like all of their previous console launches, Nintendo is planning to pack the Wii U with new games from many of their biggest franchises including a new Mario game and Pikmin 3. And during this year’s E3 Expo, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that a new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U was in the “R&D stage.”

But the famed developer also wants to see a few other major franchises make an appearance on the company’s next console.

Speaking to IGN, Miyamoto revealed that his greatest wish is to create a new Star Fox game on the Wii U.

He also wants to to bring the Metroid series to the HD console:

“With Metroid it’s very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U. I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that.”

“I feel like the possibilities of the GamePad for Metroid could be really fantastic. There’s certainly a lot that you could do there for that game.”

It’s important to note that Miyamoto didn’t say that either game was in development, just that he personally wants to work on them. To that I say… give the man what he wants!

Check out this 15-minute Injustice gameplay video

Ed Boon made an appearance at this weekend’s Evo 2012 tournament to show off Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm’s DC Comics fighter that is currently scheduled for a 2013 release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.

The Mortal Kombat creator demoed four characters: Superman, The Flash, Batman (voiced by Kevin Conroy!), and Solomon Grundy. In total, 24 character slots were visible during a quick glimpse of the selection screen. Each character takes plenty of inspiration from their comics counterpart and Boon was particularly keen to show Injustice’s destructible environments, multi-level arenas, hidden weapons, and the Clash System.

Most of these features have made appearances in many of NetherRealm’s previous games. But everything looks bigger and… dare I say it… more super in Injustice: Gods Among Us.

THQ returns Devil’s Third publishing rights to Itagaki’s Valhalla Studios

It looks like THQ was unable to find a buyer for Devil’s Third, the first game developed by Tomonobu Itagaki since he left Team Ninja.

But the troubled publisher has still parted ways with the troubled game by handing the publishing rights to Devil’s Third back to Itagaki’s Valhalla Game Studios.

A spokesman for the company told Eurogamer: “THQ confirms that the company will not be publishing Devil’s Third. All of the game’s IP rights have been returned to Itagaki-san and the Valhalla team.”

Devil’s Third was previously scheduled to be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in early 2013, but without a publisher, it’s unlikely it’ll make that date.

Activision, High Moon to announce next-gen Marvel game at Comic-Con 2012

High Moon Studios, an Activision internal development team, will announce their next game at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con during the “Marvel Video Games” panel on Saturday, July 14.

The panel’s description is woefully short on details, but several LinkedIn profiles have offered up a few more details about the unannounced game. According to Senior Game Designer J.R. Vosovic, the game is in development for “next-gen” systems. We also know that the project is being headed up by Game Director Sean Miller, who was previously in charge of the team that created Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

In addition to the recently released Amazing Spider-Man game, Activision has published multiple titles based on Marvel Comics characters this generation including the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and X-Men: Destiny.

WayForward readying Mighty Switch Force! HD for Wii U launch

The July 2012 issue of Nintendo Power has revealed that WayForward is hard at work on a high definition remake of 3DS platformer Mighty Switch Force! for the Wii U.

The unimaginatively titled Mighty Switch Force! HD will include all of the additional features WayForward created for the “Bonus Incidents” update as well as completely redrawn character art. And according to Creative Director Matt Bozon, the developer may throw a few more extras into the Wii U version, which will be available to download from the Wii U eShop shortly after the system’s launch.

And if you’re a WayForward fan, you’ll be happy to know they’ve got more downloadable games in production for both the 3DS and Wii U.
