Microsoft has announced the release schedule and prices for this year’s slate of Summer of Arcade titles.

First announced at E3, this year’s Summer of Arcade will kick off on August 7 with Starbreeze’s Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (1200 Microsoft Points/$15). The second week of the promotion, August 14, will see the release of Ska Studios’ Charlie Murder (800 Microsoft Points/$10). Third out of the gate, on August 21, is the HD remake of Flashback (800 Microsoft Points/$10). Capping everything off, on August 28, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (1200 Microsoft Points/$15). Here’s the schedule in list format, because, why not…

  • August 7: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (1200 Microsoft Points/$15)
  • August 14: Charlie Murder (800 Microsoft Points/$10)
  • August 21: Flashback (800 Microsoft Points/$10)
  • August 28: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (1200 Microsoft Points/$15)

As in years past, buying more than one Summer of Arcade title will trigger a special bonus gift. This year, purchasing two or more games during the promotion will net you a “Souls Pack” for the upcoming Ascend: Hand of Kul.

walkingdead-header

The latest addition to Telltale’s The Walking Dead saga, “400 Days,” is now available on the Xbox Live Arcade. The episode has been priced at 400 Microsoft Points ($5) and requires The Walking Dead: Episode 1 to function:

Centered on a truck stop on a Georgia highway, this DLC episode for Season 1 of The Walking Dead tells five linked stories of survival. The Walking Dead: 400 Days offers more of the horror and human drama of Robert Kirkman and Telltale’s award-winning series. Echoes of the choices you made in Season 1 will carry over into ‘400 Days’ and the choices you make in ‘400 Days’ will resonate into Season 2.

Also available this week is Capsized, a side-scrolling shooter with hand-drawn graphics. Capsized is available to download for 800 Microsoft Points ($10):

Feverishly blast through a hostile planet packed with blood-sucking aliens in Capsized, an action-packed survival shooter that combines innovative physics-based combat with nods to classic platform games. Navigate through perilous environments while fighting bloodthirsty creatures to save your crewmates and escape with your lives. Use a grappling hook, jet pack, space-age weapons and powerups to fight through more than a dozen non-linear levels with lush, explorable environments across multiple modes. The Xbox Live release also includes exclusive levels, newly enhanced graphics and Achievements.

Celebrate the 4th of July with a new Saints Row IV trailer

Volition is celebrating America’s Independence Day with a brand new trailer for Saints Row IV. There’s plenty of fireworks and Keith David gives a speech that rivals the great Bill “President Whitmore” Pullman… what more could you want? And, I think this goes without saying but, like all Saints Row IV trailers, this one is completely not safe for work.

Saints Row IV will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 20.

Remember Me Review: Beauty and Innovation Marred by Misogyny

rememberme-header

Remember Me, developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Capcom, snuck up on me earlier this month. It’s a third-person action-adventure game which relies heavily on melee combat. From the outset, it seemed to be the full package, with stunning visuals, a fascinating female lead character, and a compelling story. But is it a game worth remembering, or a game you’d rather soon forget? (more…)

Mad Max WILL have an Australian accent in Mad Max game

madmax-header

A Mad Max game has been known to be in development for a few years now and it’s appearance at E3 2013 was a bit of a surprise, to say the least. But the announcement wasn’t half as shocking as the news that Max would speak with an American accent in the game.

After the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth on the Internet that this kind of thing produces, Avalanche’s Chief Creative Officer, Christofer Sundberg, has confirmed that Mad Max’s Aussie twang will be included in the game:

Well that’s just ace, mate! The next tallie of amber fluid is on me!***
