Pac-Man Battle Royale finally comes home in Pac-Man Museum collection

pacmanmuseum-1

Namco Bandai created Pac-Man Battle Royale specifically for arcades in 2010. The (up to) four-player Pac-Man title made each player compete for a limited supply of Super Power Pellets that would increase Pac-Man’s size and allow the player to eat the other Pac-Men. Using the graphics engine from the excellent Pac-Man Championship Edition, it was an interesting new take on the Pac-Man formula that was only available in arcades.

Until now. Battle Royale will come home this Winter as part of the Pac-Man Museum collection.

The game will be released for the PC, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Wii U eShop, and 3DS eShop. In addition to Battle Royale and Championship Edition, the collection will also include the 1980 arcade original and several other Pac-Man games from the character’s 33-year history. Sadly, the PS3/Xbox 360 version of Pac-Man Museum won’t include Championship Edition, as that game is already available as a separate download on the PSN and XBLA.

I’m not sure I like that, Namco Bandai. However, I’m thrilled that Battle Royale is finally coming home and I’m willing to overlook it (especially since any obsessive Pac-Man fan already owns Championship Edition).

Earth Defense Force 2025 release shooed away to February 2014

Bad news out of this year’s E3 Expo… D3 Publisher has delayed Earth Defense Force 2025. Instead of getting a chance to squish the Ravagers this year, fans of the insane alien invasion series will have to wait until February 2014.

To make up for this delay, D3 has released a new “E3 2013 trailer” starring the Air Raider, but it’s more-or-less an English translation of this trailer, which has been available since December.

We do need another hero… watch the trailer for the Mad Max game

madmax-header

“Two men enter, one man leaves.”

It’s not much of a stretch to say that this year’s E3 Expo resembles the gladiatorial arena of Thunderdome from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. So it’s only fitting that WB Games and Avalanche Studios (the creators of Just Cause) have come together to announce a Mad Max game.

Set for release in 2014, the game is in development for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One. Like the films, Max will wander “The Wasteland” searching for gas and undertaking “treacherous missions” to scavenge supplies to build “the ultimate combat vehicle.”

It’s unknown if the Mad Max game will be connected to Mad Max: Fury Road, the next film in the series, in any way. But don’t walk away before you watch the game’s debut trailer, which can be found after the break. (more…)

Summer of Arcade 2013: Charlie Murder, TMNT Out of the Shadows, Brothers, Flashback

summerofarcade2012

Microsoft has announced the four games that will make up this year’s Summer of Arcade:

  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (505 Games)
  • Charlie Murder (Microsoft Studios)
  • Flashback (Ubisoft)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (Activision)

2013 is the sixth straight year that Microsoft has held the Summer of Arcade promotion and this year’s crop of games certainly brings something new to the table (the co-op adventuring of Brothers and the cartoonish mayhem of Charlie Murder) while also bringing back something old (the Flashback remake and the return of the heroes in a half-shell).

The Summer of Arcade begins on August 7, but release dates and prices for this year’s slate will be announced at a later date. A Summer of Arcade 2013 trailer can be found after the break. (more…)

Watch “Exposed,” the Watch Dogs E3 2013 trailer, right here

It seems like not a month goes by without the release a new trailer for Watch Dogs. And with the E3 Expo just a few hours away, Ubisoft has released a “Exposed,” an all-CGI affair that definitely qualifies as ridiculously awesome.

This time, Aiden Pearce uses his hacking skills to infiltrate a human trafficking ring and exacts some Liam Neeson-style vengeance on the “auctioneer” and his accomplices.

Trust me, if you do nothing else today, you want to take three minutes and 30 seconds out of your day to check it out.

Ubisoft plans to announce Just Dance 2014 soon

justdance2014-ghostbusters

An Xbox.com listing for Just Dance 2014 (after all, it is the Madden of dance games) has popped up, pretty much confirming that Ubisoft will announce the next game in the series at this week’s E3 Expo.

There’s just a handful of screenshots now, but they do point towards a few song selections including the “Ghostbusters Theme” by Ray Parker Jr. and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” I suppose a zombie in a cemetery flinging its arm around could belong to a different song, but I doubt it.

Just Dance 2014 will be coming to the Xbox 360 for sure, probably the Xbox One as well, and likely every other platform under the sun (PS3, PS4, Wii, and the Wii U).
