Injustice: Gods Among Us is the best-selling game of April 2013
According to The NPD Group’s accounting of the best-selling games from April 2013, NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice: Gods Among Us delivered a superhero-sized punch to the competition last month. The Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U fighter zoomed into the top spot, ahead of another April release, Deep Silver’s Dead Island: Riptide. Other new releases were mostly shut out of the top ten, but Defiance, an MMO shooter based on the Syfy show of the same name, managed to make it to the fifth spot.
Bioshock Infinite continues to sell strong, rounding out the top three, and a pair of 3DS-exclusive games scared up spots in the top ten: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (#6) and Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins (#9).
The full top ten list for April 2013 can be found right here:
1. Injustice: Gods Among Us (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U)
2. Dead Island: Riptide (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
3. Bioshock Infinite (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii U)
5. Defiance (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
6. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
7. NBA 2K13 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, PSP, PC)
8. Skylanders Giants (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U)
9. Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins (3DS)
10. MLB 13: The Show (PS3, Vita)
Batman: Arkham Origins teaser promises full trailer on May 20
This Batman: Arkham Origins teaser trailer is 41 seconds long. If you’re pressed for time, allow me to summarize it for you…
0:00-0:10: The first ten seconds are devoted to Warner Bros. and DC Comics logos.
0:10-0:21: The next 11 seconds includes snippets of a battle between Batman and the villainous Deathstroke.
0:21-0:29: The Batman: Arkham Origins logo fades in and fades out for eight seconds.
0:29-0:35: This is followed by a six second shot of the game’s October 25 release date and logos for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, and PC platforms.
0:35-0:41: The final six seconds are given to a message promoting the release of the game’s full trailer on Monday, May 20.
I didn’t want to watch a real Batman: Arkham Origins trailer today anyway.
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures chomps on Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS this Fall
Pac-Man will star in a brand new animated series, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, this Summer on Disney XD. But everyone’s favorite little yellow circle will also be spending 2013 starring in his first third-person platforming game since 2005’s Pac-Man World 3. The game, which is also titled Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, will be available for the Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC this Fall. A side-scrolling version of the game is in development for the 3DS.
The game revolves around the vibrant universe of Pac-World, where Pac-Worlders lived in peace until the mischievous Netherworld ghosts, led by their wicked leader Betrayus, escaped from their ghoulish domain to forcibly take control of Pac-World. Pac-World’s only hope lies in the last surviving yellow Pac-Worlder, our hero with a voracious appetite.
Not only will Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures feature an entirely revamped Pac-Man universe, but it will also hearken back to Pac-Man’s origins with classic elements such as Ghost encounters. The Ghost-chomping mechanics return from the original Pac-Man but with exciting powered up variations in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, creating an innovative yet familiar gameplay experience.
Be sure to watch to the end of the trailer, which shows that maybe Pac-Man shouldn’t have a time limit for his ghost-eating Power Pellets.
BattleBlock Theater Review: Bloody Good Show

Games developed by The Behemoth don’t come around very often. I remember buying Alien Hominid for the GameCube back in December of 2004, and playing it nonstop for months. Then, after four painstaking years, we were blessed with one of the greatest (and most popular) games on the Xbox Live Arcade: Castle Crashers. I could write pages upon pages on how amazing The Behemoth’s second outing is, but odds are you’ve played the game and share my sentiments. If you haven’t, then it’s time to invest in some Microsoft Points. Point being, I haven’t been disappointed by a single game created by these developers. And with their most recent release BattleBlock Theater, I’m elated to say that The Behemoth is three for three. (more…)

XBLA Today: Sanctum 2

Coffee Stain Studios’ tower defense/first person shooter sequel, Sanctum 2, is now available on the Xbox Live Arcade. Priced at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), Sanctum 2 promises to be “Bigger, Badder, and Better” than its predecessor:
Sanctum 2 is the sequel to the tower defense/first-person shooter hybrid Sanctum. Players take the role of an elite soldier whose mission is to protect the Cores from hordes of mysterious alien creatures while playing as one of four distinct classes, all with their own unique abilities.
Borderlands 2’s Krieg the Psycho DLC is now available to download
Gearbox has added Krieg the Psycho, the second downloadable character, and the first focused on melee combat, to Borderlands 2 today. Krieg is available to download from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and PC download services for $9.99 (or 800 Microsoft Points). If you previously purchased the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, Krieg will be a free download.
“On behalf of the development team at Gearbox Software, I want to thank the fans of Borderlands 2 for the love and engagement that allows us to invest our hearts and time into supporting the game with an entirely new player character, Kreig the Psycho,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “Our fans now get the opportunity to step into the shoes of one of the most iconic characters in the Borderlands franchise as they slice their way through Pandora on the hunt for new loot!”
If the launch trailer isn’t enough to satisfy your clamoring for Krieg carnage, Creative Director Paul Helquist has posted a 15-minute walkthrough with the character at Game Trailers.

Ken Levine begins writing his next project
It’s a good day to be Ken Levine, the Creative Director at Irrational Games. First, Take Two announced that his most recent creation, BioShock Infinite, has sold 3.7 million copies since being released on March 26. And then, Levine revealed (via Twitter) that he’s begun writing his next project.
“This is something else,” he writes, a phrase which will surely lead the Internet to run wild with claims that Levine is working on BioShock 4 and that it’s better than the preceding three… or… that it’s something totally new and not related to BioShock in any way.
In a followup tweet, Levine revealed that he’s currently finding inspiration in Mad Men, P.T. Anderson, the Coen brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Steven Soderbergh, Tom Stoppard, Stephen Sondheim, and “games.” Whether or not any of these inspirations will make it into Irrational’s next game remains to be seen.
And no mention was made of BioShock Vita, which is a bad sign for the constantly delayed project’s future survival.
UPDATE: In June, it was confirmed that Ken Levine’s next project is actually the screenplay to a Logan’s Run remake.
