New Releases: Defiance, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, More

With PAX East and GDC behind us, we head into another slow Spring month of new releases.
The first week of April begins with Trion Worlds’ Defiance for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The alien-blasting game is a side-story companion to the Syfy show of the same name. This week also sees the release of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The enhanced special edition of Ryu Hayabusa’s third adventure was previously only available for the Wii U.
Also available this week is a trio of new PC games (Cities In Motion 2, Sacra Terra: Kiss of Death, and The Veil of Mystery: Seven Little Gnomes) as well as Super Black Bass 3D on the 3DS.
And that’s it.
Favorites dominate Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote during round two
I know it happened on Wednesday, but the higher seeds dominated the final voting in the second round of the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote. Michael Strahan on the Old School side and Ray Rice on the New School side were the only players ranked as the 5th seed or lower able to break through.
That means all-time greats Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ray Lewis, Deion Sanders, Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, and Dan Marino all live to see another day. They’re joined by Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III, Adrian Peterson, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Rob Gronkowski, and Arian Foster from the New School side.
Any one of these players would make a deserving Madden cover athlete. And you can cast your round three votes at ESPN.com/MaddenVote now through April 3. Be sure to check out the round three matchups after the break. (more…)

Journey collects six statues at 2013 GDC Awards including Game of the Year

The people behind the 2013 Game Developers Choice Awards like Journey. They really, really like Journey. Of the 11 awards handed out last night, the thatgamecompany-developed title was named the winner of six of them: Best Audio, Best Game Design, Best Visual Arts, Best Downloadable Game, the Innovation Award, and Game of the Year.
“This year we saw some amazing titles developed in the indie and downloadable game space, and the critical acclaim that titles like Journey, FTL: Faster Than Light, The Walking Dead, and The Room received could not have been more deserved,” said Meggan Scavio, General Manager of the Game Developers Conference.
While the GDC Awards committee loved Journey, the first-ever Audience Choice Award went to Arkane Studios’ Dishonored. The people have spoken and they really, really like assassinating bad dudes in a steampunk setting!
A complete list of winners can be found after the break. (more…)
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sails past 6 million copies sold

The meteoric rise of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has become the stuff of legend. The PC version was nothing short of a phenomenon, but I’m not sure anyone expected the game to sell five million copies in its first seven months of availability. It took a bit longer to tally their next million, but the team at 4J Studios is happy to announce that Minecraft’s Xbox 360 edition has now sold six million copies:

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will get a chance to sell even more copies when the disc version of the game is released to stores on April 30.
