Atari will park Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends in stores this Spring

Atari has announced they plan to publish the next game in the long-running Test Drive series, Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends, for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this Spring. Focusing exclusively on Ferris Bueller’s favorite type of automobile, Ferrari Racing Legends is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios, the same team behind the Shift series.

“Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends is a landmark chapter of the iconic Test Drive saga” said Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari, “Ferrari has been an essential partner throughout the history of the Test Drive franchise, and the opportunity to celebrate the unrivaled Ferrari Racing Team and the legendary Ferrari brand promises a one of a kind experience for all driving enthusiasts.”

Ferrari Racing Legends will include a Campaign Mode that traces the history of the Ferrari brand through unlockable tracks and cars. More than 50 cars will be featured in the final game along with 36 circuits. A multiplayer mode for up to eight players will also be included.

Oh Yeah… (chick chicka chicka).

PS3 Elite users get first Modern Warfare 3 maps on February 28

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, has tweeted some good news for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players on the PS3 who are also CoD Elite subscribers. It seems that this group of players will receive access to the Liberation and Piazza maps on February 28.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players who aren’t Elite subscribers will have to wait until March to purchase the DLC, when it’s all bundled together in the first “Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection.” So expect a lot more of these CoD DLC news bites in the future.

It’s not a trick: Pre-order Lollipop Chainsaw, get an Ash skin

As if I wasn’t already, like, super-stoked for Lollipop Chainsaw

The next game to emerge from the twisted mind of Suda 51 stars Juliet Starling, a bubbly teenager who has to hack and slash her way through the school day after a nerdy classmate raised an army of zombies. But if you thought the cheerleader uniform was too exploitative, then WB Games has a more appropriate zombie-killing outfit for you: Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy (or rather, Juliet dressed in Ash’s clothes).

That’s what you’ll get if you pre-order Lollipop Chainsaw from GameStop (along with a Jimmy Urine, lead singer of Mindless Self Indulgence, skin). If you’d prefer to pre-purchase the game from Amazon, you’ll receive a Betty Page-styled “Rockabilly” outfit while Best Buy is giving out “Foxy Funk” and “Goth Girl” outfits. But for some reason, the Goth Girl skin is a pink leotard with fairy wings (I don’t get it either).

Juliet will model all of the skins for you in a video and image gallery found after the break. (more…)

Syndicate Hands-On Preview: From Bullfrog To BS

There is a certain level of irony in the amount of hype, press and videos EA has been spewing out about their new iteration of Bullfrog’s 1993 classic Syndicate, in that it is very similar to some of the ‘hype’ lauded by gaming guru and Bullfrog co-founder Peter Molyneux in his heyday. And by ‘hype’ I mean bullshit. Not to discredit the man who also brought us Theme Park, Theme Hospital, and Populus, but he does have a habit of overegging what was included in his games, like the confession that the now-cancelled Project Milo demo video at 2009’s E3 was tightly scripted.

But he doesn’t even work at EA anymore, who bought Bullfog in the late 1990s and integrated the company into its massive domain (again, the irony that this game is about massive rival companies running the world is not lost). Most of the other Bullfrog developers went on to found the now defunct Mucky Foot. And yet EA did not think to call them when reviving one of their old games.

They might wish they had. (more…)

Curt Schilling talks Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

There are a lot of big names behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Executive Designer Ken Rolston, is a veteran developer who has worked on The Elder Scrolls series. Fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore created Amalur’s world and the lore within it. And Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn and those strangely sexual action figures based on The Wizard of Oz, assisted with the art direction. But the biggest name connected to Kingdoms of Amalur is one that doesn’t get mentioned very often: Curt Schilling, the founder of 38 Studios and former Major League Baseball player.

Schilling’s bloody sock may be immortalized in Cooperstown, but aside from being a staunch World of Warcraft advocate, he’s still toiling away in the Minors when it comes to game development. We’ll find out if he gets the call up to the big show next week when Reckoning ships to stores, but like any leader in the locker room, Schilling has plenty to say about the journey that brought him (and the rest of the team at 38 Studios) to this point… (more…)

Gotham City Impostors prepares for a February 7-8 release

Batman has taken a holiday and it’s up to the regular citizens of Gotham to protect the city from a gang of The Joker’s minions. Thus is born Gotham City Impostors, a Team Fortress 2-like shooter available for download through PC download services and the PSN on February 7 and through the XBLA on February 8 for $14.99.

Why has Bats gone away? Beats me, but I do know that I’m ready to put the hurtin’ on some Jokerz.

Hybrid trailer features frenetic, zero-gravity shooting

What do you get when you take the aesthetics of Portal, mash it up with Vanquish‘s frenetic cover-based shooting, in zero gravity, and online gameplay for XBLA? You end up with a downloadable game called Hybrid. Quite a fitting name really.

After watching this trailer, Valve’s Source Engine and the development team behind Scribblenauts (5th Cell) could be a winning combo. What do you think? We’ll all find out together this Summer.
