Dante levels a church in new DMC trailer

Capcom is keeping pretty quiet on their Devil May Cry reboot/prequel DMC: Devil May Cry. The game, which stars a young (and dark-haired) Dante, is in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360 at Ninja Theory. And aside from the new trailer above, the game has mostly been pushed to the back of Capcom’s E3 2011 slate.

Although I guess now we Dante can change to his “classic” hairstyle during battle.

Meet Vincent Brooks in new Catherine trailer

Atlus has released the latest trailer for their mind-bending “love adventure,” Catherine, and it focuses on the game’s “hero,” Vincent.

“Vincent is very far from the typical video game protagonist,” stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at Atlus. “He is indecisive. He is unsure of where he wants his relationship with Katherine, his girlfriend, to go. Very often, he seems incapable of doing the right thing at the right time, allowing complications (the very things he is so keen to keep his life free of) to multiply. Learning more about Vincent and his motivations is the perfect way to gain a better understanding of Catherine’s core philosophy and narrative themes.”

Sounds rough. And that’s before the psychotic sheep show up. That’s right, psychotic sheep. Check out the trailer on Atlus’ YouTube page. Catherine will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 26.

Atlus bringing King of Fighters XIII to the US

Few franchises have lasted as long as SNK’s King of Fighters franchise. The series, which first debuted in 1994 and is a spinoff of the even older Fatal Fury series, has seen 12 installments with a 13th announced this year at E3. Atlus will be bringing The King of Fighters XIII across the Pacific with a PS3 and Xbox 360 release planned for this Fall.

Developer SNK is claiming that this one is for the fans and that they plan to address many of the problems players had with The King of Fighters XII:

With the triumphant return of fan favorite characters like Mai, K’, and Vice, extensive refinement of the core fighting engine based on community feedback, and vastly improved network functionality, The King of Fighters XIII represents the HD entry in the series that fans have been waiting for.

Painstaking effort has been made to address every last concern following the last entry: fights play faster; the addition of over a half dozen play modes offers variety and replayability; the game’s beautifully rendered and animated character sprites are better distinguished from the backgrounds… which happen to be richer and more detailed; the camera perspective is less restricted; fighters have more moves, including new supers and the all-new NEOMAX supers; and much, much more!

Trials Evolution announced by RedLynx

Trials HD was a surprise hit on the Xbox Live Arcade and the motorcycle racer is still popular on the Top XBLA charts to this day. Developer RedLynx has used this year’s E3 Expo to announce the sequel, Trials Evolution, is in development for a 2011 release.

Trials Evolution is being kept tightly under wraps for now (the teaser trailer above is practically the definition of “tease”), but the sequel will include “local and online multiplayer, true outdoor environments, and a host of additional improvements [over Trials HD].”

“Trials Evolution is more than just a sequel to Trials HD,” said Antti Ilvessuo, Creative Director of RedLynx. “We listened carefully to all the feedback we received from the previous game and added it to our own vision of what the ultimate Trials game could be, coming up with a gamer’s wish list of must-play features.”

Far Cry 3 returns to the jungle in 2012

Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 3 is in development for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 for a 2012 release. Once again developed by Ubisoft Montreal, gamers that were saddened by Far Cry 2‘s desert landscapes will be pleased to know that Far Cry 3 is going back to the jungle:

With Far Cry 3, players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, a man alone at the edge of the world, stranded on a mysterious tropical island. In this savage paradise, where lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing, players dictate how the story unfolds, from the battles they choose to fight to the allies or enemies they make along the way. As Jason Brody, players will slash, sneak and shoot their way across the island in a world that has lost all sense of morality.

“Far Cry 3 brings something new and unexpected, while still building upon the foundations of excellence that are inherent to the Far Cry brand,” said Dan Hay, producer at Ubisoft Montreal. “Whether you’re already a fan of the Far Cry series or jumping into the franchise for the very first time, you’re going to be blown away by the gritty story and epic adventure we’re going to deliver.”

Halo CE Anniversary priced at $40, includes “Classic” graphics mode

Microsoft’s announcement of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary may not have surprised anyone, but some of the newly announced details just might.

The good news is that Halo Anniversary won’t be sold as a full-priced game. Recognizing the fact that the majority of the Xbox 360 userbase already owns the game, Microsoft has slapped a $39.99 MSRP on the re-release. And according to Frank O’Connor, the Halo Franchise Director, the game will also include a layered graphics engine that recreates the fell of Halo: Combat Evolved while layering the high definition makeover on top of it. Players will be able to switch back and forth between the graphics filters on the fly with a single button press, as we see in the trailer above. The game will also include links to the upcoming Halo 4 in the form of unlockable motion graphics that will tell the backstory and “foreshadow new mysteries” of the fourth game in the series.

Six multiplayer maps from Halo: Combat Evolved will be remade in Halo Anniversary using the Halo: Reach engine with a seventh redesigned as a Firefight map. “Damnation” is the first confirmed map and Microsoft promises to reveal more during HaloFest at the PAX Prime this Summer.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is being developed by 343 Industries, Saber Interactive and Certain Affinity and will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 15.

Summer of Arcade 2011 begins July 20; Toy Soldiers 2, Bastion, Fruit Ninja, more included

Microsoft has announced they’re bringing back the Summer of Arcade for a fourth go around this Summer.

Beginning July 20th, the promotion will last for five weeks and feature five of the biggest Xbox Live Arcade games in development. The full lineup includes:

  • Toy Soldiers: Cold War, the sequel to the popular Toy Soldiers, but now with a “G.I. Joe” twist
  • Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, a side-scroller that reminds me a little of last year’s Limbo with a UFO
  • Fruit Ninja Kinect, the popular iPhone game comes to the Xbox 360 and your whole body becomes a slicing and dicing machine
  • Bastion, an action RPG that really impressed us at this year’s PAX East.
  • From Dust, a god game from the creator of Out of This World

Microsoft hasn’t nailed down the Summer of Arcade release schedule yet, so nobody knows what order the games will be released in just yet. Hit the jump for more details on all the games and be sure to check out the Summer of Arcade E3 trailer at Xbox.com. (more…)
