Mortal Kombat Review: Bone-Breakingly Fantastic

It has been a long, bloody road to bring Mortal Kombat to the PS3 and Xbox 360. After Midway’s bankruptcy, almost none of the company’s franchises were able to escape from the financial fatality unscathed. Even in the middle of the company’s financial woes, Ed Boon and his team at Midway Chicago (now NetherRealm Studios) continued to toil away on the next entry in the series. With Midway’s bankruptcy settled and the franchise now in the hands of WB Games, Mortal Kombat is ready to inflict its signature brand of mayhem onto the world once again. (more…)

Daily Scoop: April 24, 2011 – The Easter Bunny did not fix the PSN

The only thing I wanted in my Easter basket today was a functioning PSN, but apparently, that’s not in the cards just yet. Sony is busy re-building the PSN right now, while the rest of us are gorging on candy and getting ready to have dinner with the fam. Hopefully this means no more external intrusions will mess up my online play. Was it Anonymous? Microsoft? Someone hacking through the shiny new Steam functionality? No one knows.

At least Amazon’s still got plenty of deals for us. Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is MadCatz’s “Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – Call of Duty: Black Ops Dolby True 5.1 Gaming Headset – Powered by TRITTON,” which is just $179.99 down from $249.99. “Featuring 8 precision-balanced speakers which accurately reproduce the 3D gaming environment,” these headphones will allow you to “mark your enemies’ location long before they sense your presence.” It’s also got “individual backlit volume controls allow you to fine-tune each channel (front, rear, center, subwoofer)” as well as “gold-plated connectors enhance acoustics to amplify stealthy footsteps.” If I didn’t already have my heart set on other headphones right now, I might be tempted to buy these!

Amazon’s got a lot of Easter deals as well, including savings of up to 75% on select game downloads. This includes Battlefield Bad Company 2 for $9.99 and Medal of Honor for $14.99. Playing an FPS would be the best way to celebrate this holiday!

And don’t forget the Amazon list of Bonus Offers, which includes a $50.00 promotional credit if you buy a 4 GB Xbox 360 with Kinect. It’s perfect timing for everyone annoyed with the PSN outage. Does this mean I’ll finally be getting an Xbox 360? Not after reading this. That’s the last straw for me, Microsoft.

Rolling With Kierin Chase: Talking the Past, Present and Future of Dungeons & Dragons

Warp Zoned editors Nicole Kline and Mike Gutierrez recently got a chance to sit down with Kierin Chase, Brand Manager for Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast. As former dice rollers themselves, they were eager to see what 4th Edition has to offer and how it has progressed in the two years since its launch. Kierin was more than happy to detail all of the new D&D supplements, product lines, video games, and everything overall that makes now a better time than ever to jump into “The World’s Greatest Role Playing Game.” Nicole even got to ask the million-dollar question: will we see a resurrection of Spelljammer? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 announced

Fashion empress Emma Watson is proud to bring you the trailer above for the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (and no, it’s not the Mature-rated Harry Potter we’ve all been anticipating). We don’t have a release date yet, but it’ll likely ship alongside the movie’s theatrical opening in July.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is coming out for the Wii, DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The DS version will give you up to four person handheld multiplayer while the PlayStation 3 version will support PlayStation Move, for a little more immersion with your wand play.

Section 8: Prejudice, Fancy Pants Adventures added to XBLA today

Microsoft has added two new games to the Xbox Live Arcade on this fine XBLA Wednesday: Section 8: Prejudice and The Fancy Pants Adventures.

Section 8: Prejudice is a sequel to the well-received retail game Section 8. Developer TimeGate Studios shrunk its price down to $15 (1200 Microsoft Points) but has promised the game itself is just as big as ever.

Going in a completely opposite aesthetic direction, The Fancy Pants Adventures is a platformer that features stick figures.

More information on both games can be found after the break. (more…)

EA confirms original Alice included with Alice: Madness Returns

It looks like American McGee didn’t sneak a hit off the Caterpillar’s hookah when he told CVG that American McGee’s Alice would be included with PS3 and Xbox 360 copies of Alice: Madness Returns.

After initially issuing a “no comment,” Electronic Arts has confirmed the first Alice game will be included with Madness Returns as the company’s latest “Project Ten Dollar” bonus. The one-time-use Online Pass will unlock the game within the main menu of Madness Returns, which means it won’t be offered as a separate PSN/XBLA release.

However, those that purchase Alice: Madness Returns on the used market will be able to access Alice by obtaining an Online Pass through the PlayStation Store/Xbox Live Marketplace for $9.99 (or 800 Microsoft Points).

Alice: Madness Returns will be released on June 14.
