PC/Xbox One owners will be able to purchase Halo Wars: Definitive Edition as a standalone game in 2017

Microsoft sent out codes for an “Xbox Game Preview” version of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition to everyone who pre-ordered Halo Wars 2 last week. The remaster will continue to be tweaked and enhanced ahead of its “final” release, but the consolemaker had yet to announce if it would ever be available to PC and Xbox One owners who weren’t interested in the sequel… until now.
Buried deep within an Xbox Support page for Halo Wars 2 is a single paragraph confirming that Halo Wars: Definitive Edition will indeed receive a standalone release sometime in 2017:
When you pre-order Halo Wars 2, you’ll receive a code for Halo Wars: Definitive Edition when the game is made available early on December 20, 2016. The game won’t be available to purchase separately until later in 2017.
Halo Wars 2 will be available for the PC and Xbox One on February 21, so there’s still time to pre-order it to receive early access to Halo Wars: Definitive Edition.
See the first gameplay trailer for Super Mega Baseball 2
Today’s the second day of Winter, so it seems like the perfect time for Metalhead Software’s Scott Drader to stoke the Hot Stove with the first gameplay trailer for Super Mega Baseball 2. The development team has big plans for the upcoming sequel, starting with a brand new art style. New customizable features and the addition of online multiplayer are also on the docket for Super Mega Baseball 2.
The gameplay trailer is embedded above, and Super Mega Baseball 2 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Summer 2017.

Kickstart This! Super Red-Hot Hero

In what will be the final Kickstart This of 2016, a year many of us would like to forget, I thought it would be prudent to end the year on a “Red-Hot” high. For this edition, I have chosen Super Red-Hot Hero, a game from an exciting team of developers based in Barcelona. (more…)
Xbox Store Today: Walking Dead New Frontier, Shantae Half-Genie Hero, Wick, more

The dead still walk! Telltale Games has launched the opening chapters of their latest Walking Dead adaptation, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. Available to download now for the Xbox One, the two-part premiere, Ties That Bind, reintroduces fans to a teenage Clementine.
Also available to download today on the Xbox One is Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, the latest game in WayForward’s retro-styled series. Shantae may have made the move to high definition, but players will still get to whip out her “devastating Hair-Whip Attack” as they take on the minions of “bodacious buccaneer” Risky Boots.
Finally, Wick brings ghost stories to life on the Xbox One. Players will explore a local legend about “the long lost children in the woods who can still be seen,” but be careful, they’re only visible by candlelight.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

CoD: Infinite Warfare’s Sabotage DLC Pack will be available for PS4 on January 31
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will receive its first downloadable expansion from Activision and Infinity Ward on January 31. The Sabotage DLC Pack will be available first for PS4 players, and as expected, it’ll include four new multiplayer maps and a new Zombies chapter.
For Zombies fans, “Rave in the Redwoods” will give players the chance to dance with the dead in an “abandoned lakeside summer camp”:
“Rave in the Redwoods,” the next thrilling chapter of the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare zombies experience, continues the macabre narrative while transporting players into a new decade: the 1990s. Willard Wyler, the enigmatic movie director villain, returns and has trapped the protagonists inside another one of his twisted horror films. The four playable characters from the original story also return, but with fresh, over-the-top roles, as they learn more about Wyler’s evil plot while fighting all-new varieties of the undead in an abandoned, lakeside summer camp where zombie ravers have taken over and turned the grounds into a techno-fueled illusion. “Rave in the Redwoods” is a tense, spooky thrill ride with shocking twists, surprises, and a slew of new Easter eggs for players to discover.
And the new multiplayer maps will include several futuristic options, including a re-imagining of the “Afghan” map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2:
Multiplayer Maps in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Sabotage DLC Pack
- Noir – A dark, grimy city map inspired by futuristic Brooklyn at night, Noir is a classic three-lane map set against a backdrop of a dystopian future, filled with cafes and parks surrounding a brutal downtown warzone.
- Neon – A virtual training center designed for urban warfare, Neon is a unique, digitized battle arena where cars and other structures spawn out of thin air and enemies dissolve into hundreds of pixels when defeated. Middle lane sightlines will cater to long-range players while the outsides of the map allow for quick counter-attacks in close-quarter action.
- Renaissance – Set in Northern Italy, Renaissance pits players against each other on the narrow streets of Venice surrounded by classic architecture and buildings that promote continuous action through the canals and neighborhoods of this iconic city.
- Dominion – A re-imagining of the classic Afghan map from Modern Warfare 2, now set on Mars, Dominion retains all the memorable landmarks and gameplay of the original, anchored by the crashed ship in the center, with a few enhancements designed to take advantage of the new movement system.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Sabotage DLC Pack is priced at $49.99, though PS4 players will also have the option to purchase each expansion as a standalone download for $15 apiece. If history repeats itself, PC and Xbox One players will likely be able to download the Sabotage DLC Pack sometime in early March.

See a full 17-minute match from Friday the 13th: The Game in this new gameplay video
Jason Voorhees went on a blood-spattered rampage in the Friday the 13th: The Game trailer that Gun Media released earlier this year at PAX West. Well, good news, the publisher is back with another look at the game… though the slasher icon is a bit less kill-happy.
Late last week, Gun Media sat down to play a full Friday the 13th match with IGN First. Focusing on the camp counselor’s efforts to survive, they set traps, repaired the phone, found the car, and tried to escape a gruesome death by machete. Did they survive? You’ll have to watch the video to find out for yourself.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Early 2017. It’ll be followed by a free single-player expansion in the Summer.

343 Industries is working on “super secret future stuff” related to Halo

Halo 5: Guardians was released late last year, so it’s pretty much assumed that Microsoft and 343 Industries have already begun work on Halo 6. That assumption was reinforced on Friday when Community Manager Brian “Ske7ch” Jarrard said the development team shared some “super secret future stuff” about the Halo franchise with him in a new post on Halo Waypoint:
I can’t really say anything of substance but yesterday we had a studio-wide presentation by Tim Longo, Halo Creative Director, on some super interesting topics pertaining to super secret future stuff. All I can say is that I left that meeting feeling very excited [me too – Grim].
Jarrard doesn’t specifically call out Halo 6, but believe it or not, the game was actually announced all the way back in 2011 as part of the “new trilogy” that began with Halo 4.
In other Halo news, Jarrard also revealed the Achievements for Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, which will be released as a “Game Preview” title on December 20 for everyone who pre-ordered Halo Wars 2. A total of 75 Achievements (including a mix of new and old Achievements) will be included and they’re worth 1,500 Gamerscore.
But hopefully, this mention of “super secret future stuff” is the first sign that an official re-announcement for Halo 6 is coming soon.

CoD: Infinite Warfare was the best-selling game of November 2016, but it sold less than Black Ops III

Ever since it was first announced, the public reaction to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has been less than kind. Fans furiously downvoted the debut trailer, while others pledged not to purchase something that strayed so far from the franchise’s roots. But it looks like not everyone felt that way.
According to the NPD Group’s latest report (via GamesIndustry.biz), Infinite Warfare was the best-selling game of November 2016. However, it performed much worse for retailers than the first-month sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops III last year.
Total game sales were down roughly 19% versus November 2015, but a few new releases put up big numbers including Pokemon Sun (#3), Pokemon Moon (#4), and Watch Dogs 2 (#8). And in hardware news, it was reported that Nintendo sold 196,000 NES Classic Edition consoles during its first month on sale.
The full Top 10 from November 2016 can be found after the break. (more…)
