Microsoft Store leaks Halo 5 story details

This morning, a listing for Halo 5 was added to the Microsoft Store, giving us our first glimpse at the game’s story. A mysterious MacGuffin data chip is at the center of a story where the Master Chief is running for his life from a group that hates “sentient life.” Optimus Prime won’t like the sound of that.
The Microsoft Store listing was quickly deleted, but thankfully, Destructoid was able to save a copy:
Halo for Xbox One takes the now-legendary saga to new heights and is one of the most anticipated games for the new console. In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted. Pre-order the next chapter in the wildly popular Halo series designed exclusively for Xbox One.
Halo 5, which is still officially known as “Halo for Xbox One,” will be released in 2014.

Microsoft planning “second season” of Killer Instinct DLC characters in 2014

During last week’s Gamescom expo, Microsoft announced two additional bundles for their free-to-play reboot of Killer Instinct If fans want to obtain all eight characters, they’ll want to purchase the “Combo Breaker Pack” or the “Ultra Edition” (which also included an emulated version of the original Killer Instinct. But these eight characters (which include Jago, Chief Thunder, Sabrewulf, and Glacius) will only comprise “Season One” of Killer Instinct.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Microsoft’s Ken “GoldenEye‘s Klobb is Named After Me” Lobb revealed that eight additional characters will be released for the game in 2014 as part of “Season Two.” Both sets of characters will be able to battle it out together in Killer Instinct and Lobb hinted that a complete collection of Season Two characters would also be priced at $19.99.
Finally, Lobb revealed that Jago wouldn’t be the only free character in Killer Instinct. Currently, the plan is to switch the free character every three months. “[I]n that sense you can play for free over years and sample more than just Jago,” he Lobb.

Fable Legends is a multiplayer Fable game for the Xbox One
Microsoft and Lionhead are preparing tell a new Fable on the Xbox One as they’ve announced Fable Legends at this year’s Gamescom expo. Built using Unreal Engine 4, Fable Legends is the first multiplayer game in the Fable series (not counting the Fable Heroes spinoff). Players will also be able to truly embrace evil for the first time and play as a villain who is out to thwart the heroes.
In Fable Legends, you’re never completely alone. You can play the game single player, with a party of three heroic AI companions that follow your lead through stories and adventures. Or you can play cooperatively with up to three friends and discover the game’s quests and content together. Play whatever style you want, when you want. After all, you’re the Hero. And just what kind of Hero you choose to play is up to you. Fable Legends takes you back to a time when Albion is teeming with Heroes, so there’s bound to be one for you. Fearless warriors. Cunning tricksters. Masters of Will. Paragons of virtue. Heartless mercenaries. Intoxicated brawlers. Chicken chasers. They’re all here, and many more besides. You’ll be able to customize your abilities, alter your appearance, and advance your Hero by earning experience and finding new armour, weapons, and treasures.
If you prefer to follow the dark path, Fable Legends will allow you to use “strategic decision making and tactical control” to challenge the heroes. Your villainous alter-ego will control “creatures, minions, traps, and environmental hazards” in a quest for world domination. Xbox SmartGlass support will open up even more evil opportunities.
Microsoft has yet to announce a release date for Fable Legends.

Reef Entertainment obtains Terminator license
Reef Entertainment obtained the license to produce games based on the Rambo films in 2011 and plans to release Rambo: The Video Game later this year. So what’s next for the UK publisher? Why, another 80s action franchise, of course.
Today, Reef announced that they’ve obtained the license to produce PC and console games based on The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. A spokesman for the company said that developers at Reef are “studying all aspects and influences of the Terminator universe” and that the company wants to “create a game that does great justice to the motion pictures.”
The publisher plans to reveal more details about the first game to emerge from this agreement, which will be titled Terminators, at a later date.

Xbox One’s launch day lineup includes 23 games
We know the Xbox One will be released this November and now we know which games will be available on the launch day.
During their Gamescom 2013 presentation, Microsoft announced that 23 games will be available to purchase on day one. Two of the titles, Watch Dogs and Need For Speed: Rivals, will be released for current generation consoles on November 19, so it’s probably safe to assume that the Xbox One will be released on or after that date.
In another interesting development, the 23 launch day titles might be the only Xbox One games released in 2013. Of the remaining announced titles, every other game is expected to release in 2014 or later.
Expect to see a lot of familiar names in the Xbox One’s launch day lineup including Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Dead Rising 3. But there is one unfamiliar title, Peggle 2, which is now a timed Xbox One exclusive. The full list of launch day games can be found after the break. (more…)

Dead Rising 3 cinematic trailer goes full Romero
Cinematic trailers are a mixed bag. Most of the time, they leave you shaking your head and asking, “Why can’t I do something that cool in the game?” But sometimes, they give you a nice taste of what a game has to offer in a beautiful computer-generated package. This cinematic trailer of Dead Rising 3 belongs to the latter category.
The trailer reintroduces us to the game’s protagonist, Nick Ramos, and introduces us to his “new best friend,” Annie. During the trailer’s four-minute running time, Ramos puts a buzzsaw and a sledgehammer to good use before modifying a motorcycle into a tank, similar to the main characters of the Dawn of the Dead remake. Other Romero touches abound including the memory theory of zombie behavior and the firearms proficiency hinted at in Day of the Dead.
Dead Rising 3 is currently scheduled as an Xbox One launch title and it’ll be released in November.
