Borderlands 2 Mechromancer DLC coming October 16

The Borderlands 2 pre-order bonus news is finally official: you’ll be able to play as Gaige the Mechromancer, pictured above, starting October 16. The DLC will be free to those who pre-order the game at participating retailers (which, according to the Blands 2 website, seems to be just Amazon, Best Buy, or GameStop). For those who don’t have the Premiere Club Membership, the DLC will cost $9.99/800 MSP.

I am so excited for Borderlands 2 that I can’t stop playing the 16-bit demake. Also, have you seen the skill trees yet? How is it not September 18 already?!?!

Terraria announced for PSN, XBLA

Get ready to build yourself into the wee hours of the morning! 505 Games has announced it’s bringing the popular PC side-scrolling block-building game, Terraria, to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

In Terraria, you can collect a huge amount of items and materials to build a giant home base so you can protect yourself from the perils of the outside… as well as craft even more items. The massive world is full of monsters just ready to eat and/or provide sweet drops for you.

Terraria was first released in 2011 by creator and developer Andrew Sprinks’ studio, Re-logic. The game’s 1.6 million players have added much to the world, and hopefully console players will bring even more.

Tim Woodley, Head of Global Brand for 505 Games, said, “The block-building genre has taken the world by storm and Terraria has garnered a massive following through its increased focus on adventure and discovery. We’re looking forward to bringing an already hugely successful experience to a brand new console audience and we can’t wait for the existing Terraria fan base to experience all-new content”.

Sprinks is excited as well. “I can’t say how excited I am to finally have Terraria come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3!” he said. “To see it come so far is a complete shock, especially after such humble beginnings. It’s always been my dream to have as many people as possible know and enjoy Terraria as much as I have, and this is another big step in that direction! It’s been awesome working with 505 Games, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the additional features that they’ve been able to bring to this new edition of the game.”

Terraria will be available on the PSN and XBLA in early 2013.

Why Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, what a big trailer you have…

The first trailer for the Spicy Horse-developed A ctionRPG, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, has hit the web, and boy is it a beauty. Continuing the theme of dark fairy tales set by Spicy Horse’s owner, American McGee, the game reworks the Red Riding Hood story, transporting it to feudal Japan. The main character, known as the Red Hunter, must protect their village from the Yokai, demons inspired by Japanese myth and folklore.

The free-to-play browser based game will allow you to grow and develop your own character, as well as offering a randomized item system meaning there is an endless variety of loot to collect, buy or trade.

Capcom has no plans to bring EX Troopers to North America or Europe

Capcom’s Lost Planet spin-off for the 3DS, EX Troopers, is scheduled for release in the company’s native Japan on November 22nd. However, according to Capcom USA Senior Vice President Christian Svensson, there are so far no plans afoot to release the game in western territories. It is worth noting that he was commenting on current plans, and did not rule out a release in the future, offering fans of the series a sliver of hope. It seems an odd move, given that Capcom trademarked the title for both the US and European markets back in 2011.

The new game marks a conscious shift away from the gritty graphics of the main franchise, offering cel-shaded, manga-style artwork as it pits the players as Bren Turner, a young recruit at an EDN III Academy, who must battle the alien Akrid and Snow Pirates alike.

PSN Today: Max Payne 3, Double Dragon Neon, La Pucelle Tactics, more

There’s a lot to recommend in this week’s PlayStation Store update. The biggest new release is the downloadable version of Rockstar’s Max Payne 3, which can be purchased for a limited time for $44.99. It’s such a steal, Max Payne might arrest you… if he was still a cop…

Also available this week is the return of the Lee brothers in Double Dragon: Neon. The WayForward-developed beat ’em up is a free download for PlayStation Plus subscribers (along with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and a demo is available for the rest of us that want to test the waters before dropping $9.99 on the game.

It may not be of interest to many, but this week’s PS2 Classic is La Pucelle: Tactics. Nippon Ichi’s prequel to the Disgaea series hooked me hard back in 2004. If you like Strategy RPGs, give it a shot.

Hit the jump for the complete list of this week’s new downloadable games (including FIFA Street, Anomaly: Warzone Earth, and Red Johnson’s Chronicles 2) and travel over to the PlayStation Blog for a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron DLC trailer shows off Dinobots, Insecticons, G1 Optimus

Activision has released a new DLC-centric trailer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and it’s filled with a ton of new bots now available for the game’s multiplayer (in fact, there’s so many bots, you just might plotz).

Terrible rhymes aside, how would you like to play as Zeta Prime, Wheeljack, Perceptor, Blast Off, and Ultra Magnus? With the Multiplayer Havoc Pack, you can. Or how about Grimlock, Swoop, Slag, and Snarl? With today’s release of the Dinobot Destructor Pack, you can.

A third DLC pack, the Massive Fury Pack, will be released on September 25 and include Hound, “G1 Retro” Optimus Prime, and the Insecticons (Sharpshot, Hardshell, and Kickback).

Roll out!
