More God of War 4 details will be released in “a year or two”

After a surprise announcement during this weekend’s PlayStation Experience event, it’s probably safe to assume that we’ll have to wait quite a while for God of War 4‘s release date. But it looks like we’ll have to endure quite a long wait just to hear more about the game.

Speaking to IGN, Sony Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog revealed that he expected to share more information about the game in “the next year or two.” He also confirmed that the game would not be a prequel like 2013’s God of War: Ascension.

However, one thing Barlog wouldn’t confirm was if Kratos would be the star of God of War 4. According to IGN, he was “unwilling to answer,” whatever that means.

Can you have a God of War game without Kratos? I’m not sure, but we might find out in a year or two.

Watch the music video for Paul McCartney’s Destiny song right here

Paul McCartney’s involvement was one of the first things we officially learned about Bungie’s Destiny. Since then, those that have played the game have discovered that the ex-Beatle is responsible for the game’s main theme, “Hope For the Future.”

Yesterday, Sir Paul released a music video of the song for everyone to enjoy and it’s… well… let’s just say Obi-Wan Kenobi would be proud.

The video drops McCartney onto the surface of Mars and Venus while characters from the game sit back and listen to his performance. There’s no lighters, but then, there’s no McCartney either. He appears in the video as a hologram that looks an awful lot like Alec Guinness in Star Wars.

The timing couldn’t have been better as Destiny’s first expansion, The Dark Below, is available to download today.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Review: Literally Borderlands 1.5 in Every Way

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Borderlands franchise. I’ve played the first two games for hundreds of hours, and I briefly considered getting Borderlands 2 for the Vita. I was thrilled to find out that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel would fill the gaps between the two games, allowing you to play as Handsome Jack’s cronies and detailing how he came to power. 2K Australia took over on development, working with Gearbox to create the game, and it shows.The Pre-Sequel was rife with glitches, had a weak storyline, and was generally not as fun as the second game. Quality-wise, it felt more like the first, and, at best, could be considered a giant DLC pack. And it’s definitely not worth 2K’s $60 asking price.

Insert Quarter: A Classic Interview With Ralph “The Father of Video Games” Baer

Insert Quarter is our showcase for some of the best and most interesting writing about video games on the Internet.

Ralph Baer passed away this weekend at the age of 92. After spending all his life as a self-described “tinkerer,” Baer claimed more than 150 patents on various gizmos and doodads including the beloved handheld game Simon. But Baer will probably best be known as the man who invented the home video game console. Game Informer’s Matt Helgeson sat down for an interview with Baer in 2009 and the publication re-ran an expanded version of the conversation today as part of a celebration of the developer’s life.

It is an interesting look inside the mind of a man who contributed so much to the game industry:

Game Informer: What’s your opinion of what games have evolved into?

Baer: It’s utterly amazing. It’s simply the result of the semiconductor industry going sky-high over the last 20 years. I have an early Apple computer; it had 32K of memory. You can go to the store and for $50 buy 10 gigabytes of memory on a semiconductor stick that plugs into a USB. It’s like going from bows-and-arrows to the space age in 20 years.

First gameplay trailer officially reveals Street Fighter V as PC, PS4 exclusive

The leaked teaser trailer for Street Fighter V may have knocked the wind out of Capcom’s PlayStation Experience announcement, but confirmation that the fighting game franchise will be exclusive to Sony’s system is still a huge get for the consolemaker.

However, we also got a look at the game in action and seeing Ryu spar with Chun Li was pretty impressive. The game appears to use an enhanced version of the art style found in Street Fighter IV, but the fighting is still incredibly fast and fluid. And according to the Capcom-Unity blog, PS4 and PC players will be able to compete against each other in the game’s online mode.

As of right now, Street Fighter V doesn’t have a official date (or even a vague release window). But Capcom has promised that we’ll get our first look at a live Street Fighter V match during the Capcom Cup on December 13.

CD Projekt moves The Witcher 3’s release to May 19, 2015

According to CD Projekt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the “most important” game they’ve ever created. Naturally, such a complicated endeavor can quickly spin out of control, requiring additional effort to get all the pieces in place. And it looks like that’s exactly what happened to Geralt’s latest adventure.

After previously pushing the game’s release from “Late 2014” to February 24, 2015, the developer has announced plans to delay The Witcher 3 yet again. The game will now be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 19, 2015.

In a statement to fans, CD Pojekt’s board offered an apology for the delay and said, “We set the release date too hastily.” You can find the full statement after the break.

Final Fantasy VII will come to PS4 in Spring 2015… but not as an HD remake

Even though fans have been clamoring a high definition remake of Final Fantasy VII for more than a decade now, Square Enix has yet to deliver. However, the critically-acclaimed RPG will make its way to the PS4 in Spring 2015 thanks to a re-release of the original PSone game. Or rather, Square Enix will port the recently released PC port of Final Fantasy VII to the PS4.

So, you got all that? A port of a port that’s not an HD remaster. But it is Final Fantasy VII… playable on your PS4. Be happy for small victories.
