Katamari Damacy, Journey creators developing Wattam for PS4

Keita Takahashi and Robin Hunicke are collaborating on a new game, as you can see in the trailer above. It’s called Wattam, which “is actually composed of the Tamil and Japanese words for ‘making a circle’ or ‘making a loop,'” according to the PlayStation Blog. Takahashi is best known as the creator of the much-beloved Katamari franchise while Hunicke was a producer for Journey at thatgamecompany, and is now the co-founder of Funomena.

The little guy in the trailer is a character known as the mayor of the world. Hunicke said they’ll be introducing players to more characters throughout 2015. She also gave some background on Wattam: “The idea for this game came from when Keita was playing with his two-year old son, and wondered about what if all toys lived, and connected by themselves? It would be such a fun world to explore and play with! The word ‘Wattam’ itself The initial prototype for this game was made by Keita and his friend Vikram, who are from these two cultures respectively, and this new word acknowledges one of the game’s core inspirations: making connections between different types of things.”

Hunicke also mentioned this in the comments: “Also, Keita and I will host a panel this afternoon here at PSX. We will be talking about some of the inspirations behind his work – hope to see some of you there!” Hopefully some of you got to check it out!

The developer of Gone Home will release Tacoma in 2016

Fullbright, the independent game company that brought us Gone Home, announced their new game, Tacoma, during last night’s Game Awards festivities.

“What mysteries await you, 200,000 miles from Earth? Who is exploring Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma? And what happened here?”

Fullbright will be giving us “new, big problems to solve” – but first, they need to solve “the problems of how story exploration gameplay works in microgravity, what kind of near-future timeline might lead to the existence of Tacoma Station, what this imagined place looks like, what the daily lives of its inhabitants might be like…” Basically, they’re going to solve some problems first, and then give us some problems to solve in turn.

Tacoma will be launching in 2016, presumably for the PC and possibly other platforms. In the meantime, you can sign up for their newsletter and follow Fullbright’s progress on Twitter.

Cory Barlog confirms God of War 4 at PlayStation Experience

godofwarkratosSony has a ton of presentations planned for this weekend as part of their PlayStation Experience and not all of today’s big news was dished out at the Keynote. Cory Barlog just dropped a major announcement at the end of the God of War Retrospective panel. The God of War II director got up on stage and said, “Yes, we are making another God of War.”

The news was then gleefully confirmed for the rest of us via Sony Santa Monica’s Twitter account. However, the news was quickly pulled and replaced by this tweet:

Too late Cory, the cat’s out of the bag. We know that God of War 4 (or whatever it ends up being called) is in development and its coming to the PS4. Hopefully we’ll learn more about Kratos’ next game soon.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End first gameplay revealed

The first gameplay trailer of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was revealed today in Las Vegas at the PlayStation Experience. The game is still in pre-alpha, but “everything you see in the video is in-game and in real-time running at 1080p and a stable 30hz,” according to the PlayStation Blog.

There’s a lot happening in the trailer – it looks like some new melee moves for Drake, some fun action (did he hit that guy and then catch his gun?), and a new character (voiced by Troy Baker) who referred to him as “little brother.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is launching in 2015 on PlayStation 4.

Two new trailers show off Supermassive’s slasher simulator Until Dawn

Friday the 13th (with Purple Tracksuit Jason!) was released for the NES in 1989 and it was one of the last video games to dabble in the slasher subgenre. Thankfully, the maniacs are back as no less than three slasher simulators are slowly working their way towards consoles and PCs. Sony is doing their part by teaming up with Supermassive Games to release Until Dawn for the PS4 in 2015.

Until Dawn stars Hayden Panettiere as Samantha and you can watch her look scared in a new trailer for the game released during today’s opening act of the PlayStation Experience. And if you’re in a particularly sadistic mood, you can watch her be menaced by a deranged clown in the brand new Game Awards 2014 “World Premiere” trailer after the break.

Between her bloody end in Scream 4 and all the times Sylar went after her on Heroes, Panettiere likely feels right at home in both trailers.
