Some of us got scared playing P.T./Silent Hills and some of us got manly with Max Gentlemen. Find out who played what after the break. And bring on the Fall!

New 3DS with second analog stick, more buttons, NFC announced

For all the jokes about Nintendo’s conservatism, sometimes they really can surprise you. A Japan-only Nintendo Direct presentation on Friday revealed that the company is working on a “New 3DS” and “New 3DS XL,” which will sport a second analog stick, more buttons, built-in NFC functionality, and more.

Yes, you read that right. Nintendo has grafted three additional buttons onto the New 3DS (a second analog stick and two new trigger buttons up top). The handheld has also been given a power boost, allowing for “Super Stable” 3D play and built-in NFC functionality for Nintendo’s upcoming line of Amiibo figures. A bigger set of screens will also give gamers a better look at the new 3D effects.

To wring every bit of power out of the New 3DS, Nintendo has announced that games designed to run exclusively on the new hardware will be produced. The first such game, a remake of Xenoblade Chronicles, will be available in Japan this October alongside the launch of the New 3DS itself.

So where does that leave 3DS fans in North America and Europe who want to get their hands on this new handheld? They’ll have to wait until 2015 as Nintendo has no plans to release the New 3DS in either territory until next year.

New Releases: The Sims 4, Danganronpa 2, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate

newreleases090214

The Summer is over (more or less) and it’s time for the Fall gaming avalanche, but don’t expect a big batch of new releases just yet. That said, this week’s big releases include…

  • The Sims 4 (PC), the latest game in EA’s super-popular people simulator franchise will be available in a Premium Edition (with extra goodies) and a standard edition (which EA is calling a Limited Edition for some reason).
  • Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (Vita), the second anime-esque murder mystery set inside a high school will be available just in time for the first day of school.
  • Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (PS4 and Xbox One), Koei Tecmo’s latest Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors gets expanded and re-released for next-gen consoles.

That’s it for now, but Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft have plans to digitally release a bunch of games to fight over your gaming dollar as well this week.

The Behemoth’s Game 4 is a strategy game… here’s the first trailer

We still don’t know what The Behemoth’s Game 4 will actually be called, but the developer has confirmed it’ll take the form of a hex-based strategy RPG. With narration by Will Stamper (he did BattleBlock Theater too) and The Behemoth’s trademark art style, it will also likely be a strategy game like no one’s ever seen before.

For proof, just check out the PAX Prime trailer above (the previously revealed spider-woman shows up at 0:19). Game 4 is in development for the PC and Xbox One and will be released… someday.
