Daily Scoop: July 10, 2014 – Nearly the weekend

We’re pretty close to the weekend, which seemed so far away at the beginning of the week! The three-day weekend always seems to make the next week extend out into oblivion. But we’re almost there! What games do you have on your to-play list?

Speaking of games, there’s a new Humble Weekly Bundle – this one’s called Gamepedia Presented by Curse. Pay what you want for Windforge, Stacking, ReignMaker, Paranautical Activity (early access), and Strife (closed beta key). Pay $6 or more to unlock Darkout, Signs of Life (early access), and Curse Premium (30-day access). Pay $10 or more to unlock Lifeless Planet and Edge of Space (early access). And finally, at $36, add in a t-shirt, stickers, and wristband.

Over at Steam, the spotlight is on Mount & Blade: Warband, which is free all weekend, and $4.99 if you decide you want to buy it. Today’s Daily Deal is Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten for $7.49. Scoop ’em up!

Nintendo Download: One Piece Unlimited World Red, Bases Loaded, more

onepieceunlimitedworldred-boxTake me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and Crackerjack, I don’t care if I ever get back. So let’s root root root for Bases Loaded, for it’s… One! Two! Three! Strikes, you’re out, at the old ballgame.

Yes, Bases Loaded, one of the greatest baseball sims to ever grace the NES, is now available to download through the 3DS and Wii U. Sadly, Nintendo still hasn’t figured out the whole Cross-Buy thing, but Bases Loaded is so good that you should buy it on both platforms so you always have it with you.

Also available this week is One Piece Unlimited World Red, a game adaptation of the popular manga/anime. It can also be downloaded for the 3DS and Wii U. While the handheld version of the game is also available on store shelves, if you’re looking to pick it up on Nintendo’s home console, you might be interested to know that it’s a Wii U eShop exclusive.

Project Spark will be released for PC, Xbox One on October 7

Xbox One and Windows 8 gamers have been able to grab the Project Spark open beta since December. After almost eight months of testing, Microsoft is ready to announce that the full version of their game creation game will be available to purchase on October 7.

Officially dubbed the “Project Spark Starter Pack” (and priced at $39.99), the full version of the game will include a ton of content such as “Galaxies: First Contact” (a sci-fi-themed content pack), the warrior champion “Sir Haakon ‘Hawk’ the Knight,” and “Champions Quest: Void Storm” (the first episode of “an epic campaign adventure”). And if you’re worried about losing your beta creations, don’t be. Players who have been part of the beta will be able to roll over all their created content, credits, and favorite levels into the full version.

Project Spark is also in development for the Xbox 360. A release date for the last-generation version of the game will be announced at a later time.

Alien: Isolation pre-order bonuses let you relive 1979’s Alien

Now this is how you do a pre-order bonus!

Sega and 20th Century Fox have announced that gamers who pre-order Alien: Isolation will be upgraded to the Nostromo Edition, which will include an exclusive mission based on 1979’s Alien.

The “Crew Expendable” mission will allow players to take control of Ripley, Dallas, or Parker as they attempt to lure the Xenomorph into the airlock. Regardless of which character you select, you’ll coordinate with Lambert and Ash on the task. Best of all, every character (except for Ian Holm’s Ash) will be voiced by the actor who originated the role. So that means Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley), Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronica Cartwright (Lambert), Yaphet Kotto (Parker) and Harry Dean Stanton (Brett) will all appear in the mission.

Gamers who pre-order Alien: Isolation from GameStop will receive a second mission based on Alien, “Last Survivor.” In this mission, players will take control of Ripley as she activates the self-destruct sequence and gets to the shuttle. Don’t forget the cat!

“Working with the original cast has been an incredible experience,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead on Alien: Isolation. “It was important to us to have the key original cast members reprise their roles in order to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the movie. For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience.”

Alien: Isolation will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7.

NIS America will bring Criminal Girls: Invite Only to US next year

NIS America announced that Criminal Girls: Invite Only will be coming to North America and Europe in 2015. The game, which will be released exclusively on the Vita, is a revamped remake of the 2010 PSP game, Criminal Girls, which was only released in Japan.

These girls are – unsurprisingly – a gang of delinquents, and your goal is to lead them out of hell and help them better themselves so they can be born again on Earth. Watch the trailer for some over-the-top cuteness that has more than a little cartoon cleavage. And remember… “they’re in hell for a reason, so don’t expect things to go smoothly.”

Keep an eye out for Criminal Girls: Invite Only next year.

XBL Store Today: The Wolf Among Us Episode 5

It’s all been building up to this. The season finale of Telltale’s adaptation of Fables, The Wolf Among Us, is now available to download from the Xbox Live Game Store. Episode 5 is entitled Cry Wolf and, just like all of the previous entries in the episodic season, it can be download individually (for $4.99) or as part of the Season Pass (for $19.99).

The final episode of a five-part game series based on the award-winning Fables comic book series by Bill Willingham (published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint).

The series has been incredibly well received and I’m sure Telltale is working on The Wolf Among Us Season 2 as we speak.

Daily Scoop: July 9, 2014 – End of the Eye Candy Bundle

The Humble Eye Candy Bundle is about to end, so you should grab it! Pay what you want for 140, KAMI, and Ballpoint Universe – Infinite. Pay more than the average to unlock Secrets of Rætikon + Artbook, Antichamber, and Cinders. Pay $12 or more to unlock Mercenary Kings! You don’t have much time to get these, so scoop ’em up while you can!

Indie Royale has a new bundle called the “Donut Bundle,” which says they are “nuts for donuts.” Hit the current minimum for Chronology, Nightmares from the Deep: The Siren’s Call, The Book of Legends, Guns n Zombies, and Quest of Dungeons.

Over at Steam, they’ve got two new deals as well – the Midweek Madness deal is Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 for $6.79, and the Daily Deal is Ys Origin for $4.99.

There are some pretty great t-shirts today, most of which are, once again, Pokemon-themed!

Deep Silver is asking fans to create the Dead Island 2 Collector’s Edition

The last time Deep Silver created a Collector’s Edition for a Dead Island game, they came up with Dead Island: Riptide‘s infamous “Zombie Bait Edition.” The centerpiece of that package was a bikini-clad bloody torso statue that sent the Internet into an uproar. So the publisher is turning to the public for help in designing the Dead Island 2 Collector’s Edition.

A new survey posted by Deep Silver asks their fans to rate 28 different items on a scale of one to five. The options include the expected (character figurines, art book), the unexpected (zombie arm back scratcher, beer cooler case), and the downright bizarre (zombie Oscar statuette, a real zombie). Voting is open now and closes on Monday, July 14 at midnight. So if you want to vote, you better hurry.

Dead Island 2 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Spring 2015.
