Console version of The Elder Scrolls Online delayed to late 2014/early 2015

elderscrollsonline-header

The Elder Scrolls Online was originally scheduled to launched for the PS4 and Xbox One next month, but it looks like that won’t be happening now. Developer ZeniMax Online Studios has confirmed, via a short statement on the Bethesda Blog, that the team needs “about six months” to bring the console version up to snuff:

We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to [the PS4 and Xbox One]. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks — which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.

To make amends for this delay, Bethesda is giving PS4 and Xbox One owners a chance to begin playing on the PC now and switch to the console version of their choice at a discounted rate. To qualify for this special offer, you’ll need to purchase the PC version of The Elder Scrolls Online by the end of June. Once the PS4/Xbox One version is released (tentatively scheduled for late 2014/early 2015), you’ll be able to transfer your character(s) to a digital version of the game for $20. Your transfer will also include an extra 30 days of game time.

Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios have promised they will keep us informed on all the pertinent information related to the console launch of The Elder Scrolls Online including “additional details regarding character transfers, specific offer dates, when you can expect console beta to start, and of course, when ESO on consoles will launch.”

Nintendo Download: Mega Man II, Mega Man III, Wario Land 4, more

nintendoeshop-header

“Mega May” continues with the release of Mega Man II and Mega Man III on the 3DS eShop. Both games were originally released for the Game Boy in 1992 and were partially based on Mega Man II, III, and IV for the NES. In other retro gaming news… Wario Land 4, the first (and only) game in the series to be released for the Game Boy Advance, has been added to the Wii U eShop.

If you’re looking for something original, the 3DS eShop is now home to two brand new RPGs. Grinsia is a retro-inspired dungeon crawler and The Denpa Men 3: The Rise of Digitoll is an RPG with augmented reality elements. Also available this week on the 3DS is Parking Star 3D, a parking lot sim.

Three new games were also added to the DSiWare Shop today. Jewel Match and Jewel Quest IV: Heritage are both puzzle games of the “match-3” variety and Sokomania 2: Cool Job is an overhead maze puzzler that stars a deranged-looking warehouse foreman.

More information on all of these games can be found after the break.

The film industry uses the opening of blockbuster season to signify the start of Summer. Meanwhile, the video game industry sets its seasonal clock by Activision and the announcement of the next Call of Duty game. This year’s entry stars Kevin Spacey and the staff of Warp Zoned took the time to debate his inclusion in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in the latest episode of “Continue Countdown.”

After that, the trio of Editor-In-Chief John Scalzo, Staff Writer Mike Ryan, and special guest Adam Woolcott talked about the expunging of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and the unearthing of Atari’s E.T. landfill. Next, they examined Microsoft’s Xbox Originals film production plan and their possible E3 2014 announcements before turning to Nintendo and Fatal Frame 5‘s Japanese exclusivity, Mario Kart 8‘s free game deal, and Super Smash Bros. 4‘s Best Buy debut. Finally, we say goodbye to Bob “Mario Mario” Hoskins.

Rumor: Attack on Titan 3DS game may be released in US

attackontitan3dsThe Attack on Titan 3DS game may be coming to US shores, according to Siliconera. Developer Spike Chunsoft told the site that they have been “searching for a publishing partner” to bring their game to North America. This is exciting news, as the show has become wildly popular here in the States.

Attack on Titan sold 93,000 copies in its first week available back in December 2013, and Spike Chunsoft has been faced with a demand that is “constantly outweighing supply.” Siliconera also mentioned that “by February 2014, the game had sold over 240,000 copies at retail — and we imagine even more when counting download copies, due to the short supply in retail stores.”

Hopefully this ends up being more than just a rumor, because I would love to swing around and take down Titans. Love it.

Get a first look at Sunset Overdrive in this gameplay trailer

Insomniac wants to take a different tack with Sunset Overdrive, their post-apocalyptic shooter for the Xbox One. According to the developer, the game takes place during the “Awesomepocalypse of 2027” and doesn’t feature the drab grays and shuffling zombies of your typical apocalyptic game. Instead, Sunset Overdrive is an action-packed romp through a color city that features player movement based on parkour, zip-lining, and rail-grinding. Insomniac being Insomniac, it also features a strange collection of weaponry including the Roman Candle Gun, the High Fidelity Gun (a record rocket launcher), and the T-N-Teddy (a dynamite-packing teddy bear).

In addition to a wide array of mutant monster (the victims of a poisoned batch of energy drinks), the game will also include multiple Warriors-esque factions, such as a group of LARPers who finally get to live out their dreams of heroic conquest.

Sunset Overdrive will be available for the Xbox One this Fall in a special Day One Edition that will include exclusive outfits and weapons. More details on the Day One Edition can be found at the Xbox Wire.

Hyrule Warriors will be released in Japan this Summer and in US by year’s end

Even though the trailer embedded above is the only glimpse of Hyrule Warriors we’ve gotten since the game’s December announcement, Tecmo Koei and Nintendo have revealed that the game will be released very soon.

During a financial briefing (via Siliconera) yesterday, Tecmo Koei revealed the Omega Force-developed game is set for a Summer 2014 release in Japan. Nintendo held their own financial briefing yesterday and they confirmed that Hyrule Warriors would be released in the US before the end of the year.

So we don’t know anything new about Hyrule Warriors today that we didn’t already know five months ago, but at least it’s still on track for a 2014 release.
