MLB 14: The Show gets called up to PS4 on May 6

mlb14-releasedateSony previously announced that the PS3 and Vita versions of MLB 14: The Show would step into the batter’s box on April 1. Now, the publisher has confirmed (via Facebook) that the PS4 edition of the game will be released on May 6.

MLB 14: The Show will feature several improvements over the PS3 and Vita versions of the game including full use of the PS4’s “Share Button.” The next-generation baseball sim will also feature a “graphical leap” over the PS3 version thanks to the PS4’s increased horsepower and an enhanced “beard rendering engine” to ensure that everyone’s facial hair is up to snuff.

Personally, I’d love to see a player like Brian Wilson do something absolutely insane with his beard just to test Sony’s new system.

Secret Ponchos will sneak into PAX East 2014 in playable form

secretponchos-header

The developers at Switchblade Monkeys certainly had a busy 2013. In March, they debuted their first game, Secret Ponchos, at PAX East 2013. After a huge reaction from the crowd of con-goers, the team signed up with Sony and agreed to showcase the game at E3 2013 as a PS4-exclusive. And with its April release date looming, the developer has just revealed that first we’ll all get a chance to try it out again at PAX East 2014:

PAX East 2014 will be held in Boston beginning on April 11. If you plan to attend, I hope you’ve got your tickets. The popular Spring event is already sold out.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is the best-selling game of February 2014

callofdutyghosts-rumor-boxCall of Duty: Ghosts was the best-selling game of the month in November, December, and January. Today, the NPD Group released their list of the best-selling games in February and, once again, Ghosts has taken the top spot. Ghosts has had an impressive run, but I have a strong feeling that major new releases like TitanFall and Dark Souls II will prevent Infinity Ward’s military shooter from winning one for the thumb next month.

Amongst new releases, the game adaptation of The Lego Movie and a trio of games from Square Enix (the Thief reboot, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, and Bravely Default) all broke into the top ten. Amazingly, the boxed version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is still hanging on at #9.

The battle of the next-generation consoles continues to be almost a wash as the PS4 slightly squeaked ahead of the Xbox One in February. According to Microsoft, 258,000 Xbox One systems were sold during the month with the NPD Group reporting that Sony sold 10% more PS4 systems. Due to the Xbox One’s premium price tag, it technically brought in more sales dollars in February. As I said, the whole thing is almost a wash.

A complete look at last month’s top ten best-selling games can be found after the break.

Daily Scoop: March 13, 2014 – So much goodness

I think I’ve turned my PlayStation 4 on more in the last two weeks than I have in the last four months. Those promised games are finally starting to come out!

Speaking of great games, there’s a brand new Humble Weekly Sale that just started up today. Pay what you want for Alpha Protocol, Company of Heroes, Rome: Total War, and Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit. Pay more than $5.99 for The Typing of the Dead: Overkill, Binary Domain, Renegade Ops, 10 Classic Sega Genesis Games, and Medieval II: Total War. You can also get Total War: Shogun 2 if you pay more than $14.99. Whew! That’s a lot of games.

It’s Rockstar Games Weekend at Steam, and there are a lot of great games in this sale. L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition is $7.49, as is the Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition, while Max Payne 3 Complete is $6.99. There are plenty of other games there as well, and they’re all on sale from today until March 17.

Just two t-shirts today, and they’re both Pokemon-themed!

Capcom wants to add YOU to the next Resident Evil game

residentevil

Capcom hasn’t officially announced the next entry in the Resident Evil series yet, but a new contest on the company’s Capcom-Unity blog makes me think an announcement is imminent.

From now until April 14, the Resident Evil Facebook Page will be home to a special Resident Evil Memories tab. There, you can submit your favorite moment from the long-running horror franchise and, if Capcom picks your name, you’ll be “featured in an upcoming Capcom game.”

As you can see, the contest doesn’t outright state that you’ll be featured in the next Resident Evil game because, once again, there is no next Resident Evil game yet (officially, anyway). But why would Capcom limit the contest to Resident Evil memories unless it was somehow connected to the definitely in-development Resident Evil 7?

The Last of Us takes home Best Game at 2014 BAFTA Awards

baftagameThe 2014 BAFTA Awards were handed out yesterday in London and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us was crowned the big winner of the night. The Last of US was declared “Best Game” by the British Academy and also took home four additional awards: “Action and Adventure,” “Story,” “Performer” (for Ashley Johnson’s portrayal of Ellie), and “Audio Achievement.”

The Last of Us, an American game, shared the spotlight with two distinctly British titles. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V (“Best British Game,” “Game Design,” and “Multiplayer”) and Media Molecule’s Tearaway (“Mobile & Handheld,” “Family,” and “Artistic Achievement”) won three awards apiece.

The remainder of the awards were split between a handful of games and you can check out the complete list of winners after the break.
