Daily Scoop: February 3, 2014 – Here comes the snow

This week is supposed to be a non-stop snow-a-thon, which sounds really fun! I mean, it sounds really fun if we get some snow days. So far that’s not looking like it’s going to happen. All the snow is doing is making my commute three times as long as usual. Seriously, the city should be shut down today! It’s treacherous out there. Oh, and it’s Monday, too, which is a strike against it.

There are not too many deals happening today. The Humble Store has Bridge Constructor for $4.99, The Floor is Jelly for $8.99, and Octodad: Dadliest Catch for $11.99.

There’s one good deal happening at Steam, and that’s on Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You can get the Director’s Cut of the game for just $4.99. That’s a great deal!

There are some amazing t-shirts today. Hit the jump to see all of them!

Rumor: Latest Need For Speed canceled after layoffs at Ghost Games UK

needforspeedguiltyIn another blow to the video game industry, Ghost Games’ UK offices have been hit by layoffs. According to Polygon, these layoffs are rumored to have even halted development on the latest (and currently unannounced) Need For Speed title.

EA offered compensation to those let go, or told them they could “work on Visceral’s rumored police-themed Battlefield title, code-named Havana,” which is due out later this year. On that note, why is this the first we’re hearing of a “police-themed Battlefield title” developed by Visceral?

This news doesn’t bode well for the studio or the franchise, which was placed fully in the studio’s hands last year, according to Marcus Nilsson, the executive producer on Need For Speed Rivals. However, the article was updated with the following: “An EA spokesperson told Polygon that the company has ‘entered a consultation period for some positions in our Ghost Games U.K. studio.'”

Best of luck to those who lost their jobs. We here at Warp Zoned hope they are able to find new employment quickly.

Rumor: New Duke Nukem game developed by Interceptor in development

nukemteaserimageA new Duke Nukem might be coming our way, according to some rumors. DSO Gaming is speculating that the new game will be developed by Interceptor, a studio that had previously worked on a “free remake of Duke Nukem 3D that would be powered by Unreal Engine 3,” which went from being on hold to not being released.

Frederik Schreiber, the CEO of Interceptor, had some very specific ideas in mind for Duke, including making him less silly and more of a serious badass. “Give us a Duke game without strippers, a great sinister villain than can break Duke (Think Bane from [The Dark Knight Rises]), a slightly older, and way more badass/gritty Duke, and a galactic plotline that can be taken seriously, and I’m Sold!”

The article ends with an update, seemingly confirming just what form the new Duke game will take: “This new Duke Nukem game will be called Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction and will be a top-down action RPG that will be powered by Unreal Engine. Thanks Mark!”

More details can be found in this image, which comes from a (now-offline) teaser site and gives plot details and states that the game will be available on PC and PS4. Hopefully this is not just an elaborate hoax – Duke fans don’t need anymore disappointment.

Rumor: New Sonic game to be released for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U in 2015

sonic2015

The image above, which was posted at a site called SpinDash, pretty clearly shows that a new Sonic game is on its way to PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U next year. This image, which came from the Nuremberg International Toy Fair, is sure to make Sonic fans happy.

As announced last year, the agreement between Sega and Nintendo from last May states that the next three Sonic games must be Nintendo exclusives. Sonic: Lost World and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the first two games on that list, were both exclusives, which means Sega owes Nintendo one more before this mystery game can be released on the other two platforms.

Ace Combat: Infinity open beta begins February 4

Are you ready to test your piloting skills? Then you should be excited about Ace Combat: Infinity, which will be running an open beta from February 4 to February 11 on the PlayStation Network. Not only will you have access to loads of amazing weapons and killer aircraft, but you’ll also have two game modes to choose from, as mentioned on their Facebook status:

  • Lone wolves will be immersed in a brand new story exclusively written for Ace Combat: Infinity in which they will have to use their pilot skills during perilous solo missions.
  • For those who prefer to team-up with their friends and to show off their talent as a pilot, aces will form two co-op teams of up to four aircrafts and will compete in incredible air fights in order to inflict the most damage on the NPC enemy forces.

The beta will be available everywhere except Japan, and everyone who plays the beta will get a special in-game emblem once the game launches.

Ace Combat: Infinity will be coming out on the PlayStation 3 later this year.

Breaking Madden: One man’s amazing destruction of the (digital) Super Bowl

I don’t know anything about sports, which is why I’ve never visited SB Nation… until today, that is. Jon Bois does an amazing job of breaking Madden NFL 25 in his amazing article, The Breaking Madden Super Bowl: The Machine Is Bleeding to Death. While the writing is superb, it’s the GIFs of him humiliating the game that really make it.

Whether you’re a football fan, a player of the Madden series, or… OK, really, if you’re just a fan of video games in general, you will appreciate this gem. Get ready to laugh until it hurts.
