Ridge Racer Unbounded is bound for a delay

Ridge Racer Unbounded was originally scheduled to be released today. But if you visited your local game store this morning, you know that’s not entirely accurate anymore.

According to Namco Bandai, that’s because the game has been delayed until “later in 2012.” The publisher fell back on the typical “additional development time” reason for the delay saying “[we want] to pack the disc with features that will truly make the game sing.” Typical, sure, but they did manage to say it in a really unique way, didn’t they?

Namco Bandai also said that a new release date for Ridge Racer Unbounded (along with pre-order incentives and a full list of features) will be announced “shortly.”

Digital publishing gets a little more Unreal thanks to Reverb

Reverb Publishing, a company that offers digital publishing services on PSN, XBLA, PC, and mobile devices to independent game developers, announced today that they have entered into a licensing agreement with Epic Games to provide full source code access to Unreal Engine 3 and technical support along with their publishing program.

The Unreal Engine is known for its high end graphical capability, mature toolset, and scalability across multiple platforms, and is designed to help productivity, so developers don’t have to create their own game engine from scratch.

Reverb believes that by adding the Unreal Engine to their menu of services, they can now help development studios of any size with every step of the process, from production to marketing and public relations.

God of War developer Cory Barlog signs up with Crystal Dynamics

Cory Barlog, best known for his work on God of War, has been hired by Crystal Dynamics, a Square Enix studio.

Crystal Dynamics is currently working on a Tomb Raider reboot and an unannounced game that fans will endlessly speculate is a new game in the Legacy of Kain series. Hopefully, whichever project Barlog is working on doesn’t involve just adding in a lot of extra QTE. Given the robust nature of the games he’s directed (God of War II and both PSP games), it seems that gamers are in for a real treat here.

Head of studio Darrell Gallagher said: “Cory’s heritage in building industry defining action adventure titles, together with our focus on delivering quality character driven blockbuster entertainment makes Cory a tremendously exciting addition to the team.”

GAME Over: Are British Gaming Stores on Their Last Continue?

Late last week week saw the shocking news that GAME Group, owners of over 1300 GAME and Gamestation stores scattered throughout Europe and Australia, would not be stocking EA’s sci-fi epic Mass Effect 3, set for release on March 9th. While official word from GAME Group’s PR firm Red Consultancy was vague, noting an ambiguous “supply issue,” an internal memo was leaked to Eurogamer. It stated that the problem was apparently more serious, stating that GAME “were committed to only stocking products on which we could get the right credit terms.” Does this mean that GAME Group did not have enough credit with EA to purchase copies of Mass Effect 3? Or has EA made changes to the credit terms that GAME simply finds unacceptable, and are now taking a bold stand?

Assassin’s Creed III tomahawks 2012 with first trailer, new details

As promised, Ubisoft has revealed the first details of this October’s Assassin’s Creed III. And that’s not all, the publisher also unveiled the game’s debut trailer, which you can find after the break.

Assassin’s Creed III will star Ratohnhaké’ton, an Assassin with Native American and British blood. Ratohnhaké’ton adopts the name Connor and takes the fight to the Templars from “the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns [to] the intense, chaotic battlefields” of the Revolutionary War.

Gamers expecting another yearly addition to the Assassin’s Creed canon will be in for a surprise as ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed III will be powered by a brand new engine. Dubbed Ubisoft AnvilNext, the engine is said to include “breakthroughs in visual quality, character models and artificial intelligence.” That’ll surely come in handy when Assassin’s Creed III launches for the Wii U as well, which Ubisoft also confirmed today.

Now then, on to that trailer.

Madden NFL 13 Cover Nominees: AFC North

Are you ready for some football? How about a long and drawn out fan vote to decide who will appear on the cover of Madden NFL 13? Well, EA Sports has you covered on both.

With just two to go, the Madden-maker has continued to reveal each division’s nominees for the game’s cover. The 64-player tournament will initially include two players from each team. Beginning March 7, fans can head over to the ESPN SportsNation Facebook Page to decide who will represent each team in the final 32-player bracket.

Today’s nominees come from the AFC North:

Baltimore Ravens
Ray Rice or Terrell Suggs

Cincinnati Bengals
Andy Dalton or A.J. Green

Cleveland Browns
Joe Haden or Joe Thomas

Pittsburgh Steelers
Troy Polamalu or Ben Roethlisberger

I don’t think anyone’s surprised, but Peyton Hillis isn’t in the running for the Madden NFL 13 cover. The Madden Curse doesn’t statistically exist, but it’s hard to argue that anyone has ever been hit by it as hard as Hillis.

But among the actual AFC North nominees, I think Baltimore’s Ray Rice has the best shot at the cover. The Raven running back ran for 12 touchdowns, caught three more, and even threw one himself in 2011. That’s impressive.
