Slash will be your guitar instructor in BandFuse: Rock Legends

So you got burned when you showed your friend “Through the Fire and Flames” on Expert, and he insinuated you couldn’t play it on a REAL guitar. Well, Realta Entertainment Group and Mastiff are teaming up to offer you the authentic experience.

BandFuse: Rock Legends is due out in 2012, and it allows gamers to plug their guitars and microphones into their Xbox 360 and play along with their favorite songs using animated tablature. This approach gets novices jamming right away, and helps more advanced players master their instrument, so don’t be intimidated, newbies! Grammy-winning guitarist Slash, formerly of Guns N’ Roses, will serve as BandFuse’s master instructor, and other artists will be integrated to mentor players.

Gamers can expect a wide variety of hit songs to play along to, from artists like Coldplay, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Judas Priest, and Maroon 5.

For more information, check out the game’s official website.

Video Game or Videogame? Answering the Most Important Question of Our Time

An edited and updated version of this article is now available at Video Game Canon.

Walk over to your media shelf and pick up a copy of Wii Sports or Halo 3 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Odds are at least one of these titles will be in your collection. What do you call the item in your hand? Some people consider these items part of the “interactive entertainment” medium, but most of us just call them video games. Or are they videogames? Though they’ve existed for over forty years, no one has ever answered the question video game or videogame?

RE: Operation Raccoon City brutalizes the PC on May 18; new trailer released

According to Capcom, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be absolutely brutal. And if this new trailer is anything to go by, they’re right. Allow me to channel my inner Joe Bob Briggs for a second here as I catalog all the carnage…

We’ve got exploding zombies, flaming zombies, stabbed zombies, headshots, kneeshots, throat slashes, ninja-fu, bra-fu, and kicking-a-mutant-in-the-balls-fu. If Joe Bob Briggs were still on the air, I’m sure he’d say “Check it out!”

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 20 with a PC version to follow on May 18.

Sony bringing standalone Killzone 3 Multiplayer to PSN

Well this is interesting.

Sony and developer Guerrilla Games have announced that a standalone download of the Killzone 3 multiplayer mode will be added to the PSN next week. Not surprisingly, it’ll be titled Killzone 3 Multiplayer. But surprisingly, it’ll be completely free.

And don’t assume this is some stripped-down demo version either. Killzone 3 Multiplayer is the real deal and contains the Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone and Operations game modes, as well as the original Killzone 3 maps and all the DLC maps.

But of course, there’s always a catch. In the case of Killzone 3 Multiplayer, it’s that level progression will stop once youreaches Sergeant I. So if you want to advance past that point (or take a crack at the four exclusive Trophies the download offers), you’ll have to pony up $15.

But still, as I said, this is very interesting indeed.

Next EA Sports NBA game will be NBA Live 13

The great NBA Elite experiment is over. EA Sports has told G4TV that this year’s NBA simulation game will resurrect the NBA Live name when it’s released this Fall. Describing the game as an “all-new experience that captures the future of basketball,” NBA Live 13 is both a rebirth for the fabled franchise and the culmination of an odyssey of errors for EA Sports.

Back in 2010, EA announced plans to completely revamp their basketball sim series. With a new style of play came a new name and the game, NBA Elite 11, was given an October release date. A week before it’s release (and with some copies already shipped to stores), EA delayed the game until March 2011 to give it some more polish. But as the saying goes, EA couldn’t polish NBA Elite 11 and the game was eventually canceled outright.

EA Sports didn’t release a basketball sim at all in 2011, instead opting for the download-only NBA Live: On Fire Edition. So, needless to say, some big expectations are riding on NBA Live 13.

When you think of Spider-Man’s greatest villains, The Rhino is not usually a name that comes to mind. So naturally, developer Beenox gave him the Bane treatment in their game adaptation of The Amazing Spider-Man.

In addition to a very menacing Rhino and a creepy soundtrack, the new trailer above also reveals that The Amazing Spider-Man will be available in stores on June 26 for the 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
