Zelda producer wants to make a Zelda movie

Quick, name the only Nintendo-published game to receive a film adaptation. Bzzt! Time’s up! Don’t tell me you forgot about Dennis Hopper’s tour de force performance in Super Mario Bros.?

But if Eiji Aonuma, the producer for the Legend of Zelda series, has his way, we’ll see Link, Ganon, Zelda and all the rest up on the big screen someday. The famed developer was interviewed by Nintendo Power for their August 2011 issue and he had this to say about his Hollywood aspirations:

“I always thought it would be really cool to have a real Zelda movie, something really grand and sweeping. But, of course, I have neither the time nor the wherewithal for all that, and even if I did have the money to make a movie, I don’t know if it would turn out well,” Aonuma said. “But there are days when I fantasize about how cool it would be if something like that would happen in the future.”

Make it happen Nintendo! But it’s too bad Dennis Hopper is dead, he would have made a great Ganon.

Far Cry 2, demos, discounts added to PlayStation Store

It’s Tuesday Wednesday and the latest update to the PlayStation Store includes a pair of highly anticipated demos and a downloadable version of Ubisoft’s Far Cry 2.

If a first person shooter like Far Cry 2 isn’t your thing, feel free to download the demos for Madden NFL 12 or Driver: San Francisco. And don’t forget that Freddy Krueger dreams his way into Mortal Kombat in this update as well.

Oh, Sony has also marked down several DLC packs in a big way this week. Look for good prices on Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned and the all of the Red Dead Redemption downloadable expansions.

Four new games in the works at Nippon Ichi Software

In an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, Nippon Ichi Software revealed some tasty details for fans of their quirky style.

They confirmed Disgaea 3: Return for the PlayStation Vita, and also hinted that the following four games are in development, according to a report on Andriasang:

1. An action RPG from the Prinny team with full polygon visuals. We’ll get our first look in about a month. Platform is unspecified.

2. An all new title from the Disgaea team. This is said to have the visual quality of the illustrations from Disgaea 4. The staff is using the knowhow it gained from Disgaea 4 for networking and other areas. The game will have a famous illustrator for its character designs. Platform is unspecified.

3. A new title from System Plasma, makers of Classic Dungeon. Platform is unspecified.

4. Japanese release of a 3DS game that was popular overseas.

That’s enough to keep us drooling for now. They’ve also said they want to make a PlayStation Vita sequel to Criminal Girls (hopefully bringing both to North America as a result), but that it won’t be soon, as they wouldn’t do it without Kazuya Niinou.

One, two, a Freddy Krueger story trailer is coming for you

Do you want to know how Freddy Krueger gets himself involved in the Mortal Kombat tournament? Well, after Shao Kahn invades Earthrealm and begins stealing the planet’s souls, Freddy is… unhappy. The Dream Warrior considers those souls his property and battles Shao Kahn in the Dreamrealm. But Kahn overpowers him and pulls him into the waking world. Pulls him into the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Wow. You know, if Freddy Krueger didn’t already exist, he would be a perfect addition to the MK universe with a backstory like that.

Freddy Krueger is available to download on the PS3 and Xbox 360 today for $5 (400 Microsoft Points).

Red Dead Redemption sells 11 million; still no release dates for Agent, Max Payne 3

Take-Two Interactive released their quarterly financial numbers yesterday along with a little (well deserved) bragging.

Calling L.A. Noire “a breakthrough for games as a whole” and a “stunning accomplishment” that “sets a new standard for storytelling,” the publisher revealed that the detective sim has sold four million copies since going on sale in May. However, this number is absolutely dwarfed by Red Dead Redemption, which has sold nine million copies since its release in May 2010 along with another two million copies of the Undead Nightmare expansion disc.

But there’s always some bad news in these financial reports and in this case it’s the continued absence of Max Payne 3 and Agent from the company’s future outlook. Within the report, Take-Two provided solid release dates or tentative dates for every one of their announced games through the end of 2012… except for Max Payne 3 and Agent.

So don’t expect to play either game for a very long time.
