The Governator game in the works

Did you think Arnold Schwarzenegger’s plan to create a cartoon series called The Governator was all an April Fools’ joke? Well, the joke’s on you as Ah-nuld also plans to create a comic books series, a movie and a video game based on his Governator “character.”

“First will come comic books, then a TV series and after that we will develop the games and then a movie,” Schwarzenegger told a packed room of international journalists at global TV market MipTV in Cannes.

You can check out the first trailer for the cartoon series above where a powersuited Schwarzenegger steps down from the governor’s office and battles a group of bank-robbing Terminators with the help of his kids. Sure, it’s silly, but it also looks totally awesome.

Daily Scoop – April 4, 2011 – Borderlands!

Anyone who knows me knows that I like to make up songs for stuff – for pretty much anything. I regularly sing songs to both of my cats, replacing words with their names, and sometimes replacing all of the words and just repeating one of their names over and over again.

How is this at all relevant? Well, today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is 2K Games’ Borderlands Game of the Year Edition for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s $19.99 today from $39.99, and you should buy it right now. The reason I told that little story up there is because I like to sing a song I made up just about Borderlands, to the tune of Def Leppard’s “Photograph.” I won’t bore you with the lyrics, but I’ll tell you that you gotta have it. It’s got some kind of hold on me. No, really, this game is amazing, and this is a killer deal, as this edition comes with all four DLC packs. It’s gone straight to my heaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

Also, Ript has you covered today if you need to buy a daily t-shirt:

I guess we know what Shy Guy did one year at band camp…

Nintendo registers Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story domains

A few days after Nintendo of Europe announced that Mistwalker’s Xenoblade would be released in Europe (as Xenoblade Chronicles), Nintendo of America has begun dropping hints that the game will continue traveling east and arrive on American shores soon.

According to Nintendo’s previous 2011 release schedules, an American release for the game has always been in the works (albeit under the title Monado: Beginning of the World). But it looks like a name change is in order as Nintendo of America has registered the domain, XenobladeChronicles.com. Currently, the site just redirects to Nintendo’s homepage, but this is a very good sign that the game will be coming to America soon.

Our curiousity piqued, we tried a URL that might point to another Nintendo RPG, The Last Story, and what do you know, TheLastStory.com is owned by the publisher as well (and it was apparently registered in February 2010).

Here’s hoping an official announcement for both games is imminent.

Johnny Cage fights dirty in latest Mortal Kombat trailer

While the stupid “Johnny” tattoo across his chest is not a good look at all, Johnny Cage is back and as cocky as ever in the latest trailer for Mortal Kombat. Also, be on the lookout for the most painful X-Ray move ever.

Mortal Kombat will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 19th (which is just a little over two weeks away!).

Super Bonk added to Virtual Console

It’s Monday morning and Nintendo has updated the Wii Shop Channel and the DSiWare Store with new games for all.

The biggest game in this week’s batch (or at least, the one with the biggest head) is Super Bonk. The Super NES classic was Bonk’s first (and in America, the only) foray onto the system.

If headbutting platformers aren’t your thing, the WiiWare service will see the addition of Planet Fish, a puzzle game set in an aquarium.

The DSiWare Shop will receive three new games this week: A Fairy Tale, a puzzle game where fairies have to save a magical kingdom; Absolute Baseball, a baseball management sim; and Anonymous Notes Chapter 1: From The Abyss, an episodic RPG with an “infinitely extending dungeon.”

More information on all of these games can be found after the break.

Weekly Warp-Up: No Fools Edition

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

Get Warp Zoned!
On Friday, the Internet lost its collective mind as the world celebrated April Fools’ Day. We dug through all the craziness in our April Fools’ Day Watch and, I have to admit, Smash M.N.C. would make an abosolutely game.

Earlier in the week had a lengthy chat with Kevin Schmitt, Lead Multiplayer Designer forSOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals. We got to talk extensively about the multiplayer, from game modes to progression paths, and how the buddy system plays a large role in the game.

But since it’s the end of the month, we discussed what we played in March 2011 in the very first Warpback compilation and we laid out our picks for the biggest games of April 2011 in the latest The Next Level.

Finally, we learned all about The Undead States of America, which was totally not an April Fools’ Day joke. OK, maybe it is. But if we all wish hard enough, it might become real.

Hit the jump for the rest of the Weekly Warp-Up.

Team Meat bites back at Microsoft for lack of support; but reality doesn’t support their complaints

supermeatboy-header

Team Meat recently sat down with Game Developer Magazine to talk about the development process behind their hit platformer Super Meat Boy. Summarized by Kotaku, the two-man team of Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes had some pretty harsh words to say about their relationship with Microsoft.

“We were told our price was too high, our visuals too rough and simply not as eye catching and flashy as the other Game Feast games Comic Jumper and Hydrophobia. Our hearts sank when we were informed that we were projected to sell as much if not less than Hydrophobia, which would be the second-highest grossing game of the Feast in their minds,” McMillen said.

McMillan would go on to complain that he felt Microsoft did not strongly support Super Meat Boy and that “the biggest mistake we made during SMB’s development was killing ourselves to get into a promotion [Game Feast] we would gain basically nothing from.” The duo also went on to say they never felt the game was given the attention it was promised. But wait…
