Gears of War: Exile trademarked

What is Gears of War: Exile?

Epic Games has filed a trademark application covering “video game software,” “computer game hint books and instruction manuals,” and “t-shirts” for the phrase along with the image to your left. This is obviously not an announcement of anything, but it is rather interesting in light of the canceled Gears of War presentation during the 2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

So we come back to the question, what is Gears of War: Exile? Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

Daily Scoop: January 19, 2011 – Is there a doctor in the house?

Are people in a daze after the Amazon All Video Games Gold Box Event yesterday? These things happen when it’s a flurry of sales. Today is a little more laid back so far. The Amazon Deal of the Day in Video Games another 2010 Square Enix Final Fantasy game that people have loved to hate – Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. All in all, I’m glad I played the game, but my complaints were mostly directly as the huge disparity in difficulty in certain areas as well as the fact that the story was kind of bland. But the characters and crowns were cute, and if any of my friends want to buy it on the cheap right now, I’d be happy to get into some co-op! It’s at $17.99 from $34.99, making it nearly 50% off.

Amazon’s also still running their Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale, featuring games for the PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, NDS, and Xbox 360. There are actually some good ones there…if I hadn’t gotten so many games on the cheap in the last few months, I’d definitely be picking up a few, like Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Persona for the PSP. Ah, well.

One final scoop on top – TeeFury has a pretty awesome shirt for sale. If you loved Dr. Mario, or House M.D., then you’ll love this mash-up of Mario and House, everyone’s favorite curmudgeonly doctor.

I thought of Dr. House from House of course. and I thought hmmmm what if Dr. Mario was addicted to vicodin just like House? and Wa-Lah!  We got the curmudgeon known as Mario M.D!

Amazing Race game predicted Unfinished Business teams

A video game adaptation of The Amazing Race was released for the Wii back in November and while the game only featured fictional teams, the cover art was apparently an early sneak peak at the cast of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business.

Unfinished Business is the second all-star edition of The Amazing Race, as 11 teams have returned to race around the world again. That includes six of the seven teams pictured on the cover of The Amazing Race for the Wii (from left):

  • Jaime & Cara (The Cheerleaders)
  • Flight Time & Big Easy (The Globetrotters)
  • Mark & Michael (The Stunt Brothers)
  • Kisha & Jen (Sisters)
  • Jet & Cord (The Cowboys)
  • Luke & Margie (Deaf Son & Mother)
  • Kynt & Vyxsin (The Goths)

Only Mark & Michael, “The Stunt Brothers” from The Amazing Race 14, were included on the game’s cover but left out of Unfinished Business.

The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business premieres next month, Sunday, February 20, on CBS. More information on this season’s participants can be found at CBS.com.

It’ll launch on March 27 with a suggested retail price of $249.99, making it Nintendo’s most expensive handheld ever. And what do you get for your money, in addition to the 3DS system, the box will be packed with a ton of extras:

  • Telescoping stylus
  • Mii Maker software
  • A physical activity log/pedometer program
  • Face Raiders, a pre-installed game that uses the 3DS’ camera
  • “Enhanced” Internet browswer

Nintendo plans to have more than 30 games available for the 3DS between its launch and E3 in June. The publisher didn’t want to get specific about which titles would be available on day one and which would be available in the launch window, but 24 titles were revealed by Nintendo this morning, including Nintendogs + Cats, Pilotwings Resort and Steel Diver.

As to the 3DS’ online capabilities, Nintendo revealed that the handheld will still use Friend Codes, but they will be system-specific. Individual game codes will no longer be required. And the system’s “Spot Pass” will attempt to connect to wi-fi networks automatically.

Finally, the 3DS eShop will include “a steady stream of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games,” along with a variety of original titles.

So that’s what we know about the 3DS, are you excited yet?

Nintendo 3DS liveblog starting now

Nintendo is currently holding a U.S. preview of the 3DS in New York City right now.  The launch event started at 9 a.m. EST and will answer most of the questions still surrounding the purportedly magical handheld device.  Reggie Fils-Aime himself is hosting and plans to give details on the U.S. launch date, pricing, initial library and other news.

The President of Nintendo America has already made some bold claims, that the current era of gaming began with playing Mario in 3D (apparently referring to Super Mario 64) and that this is “the next big step in the modern era of video games, Nintendo 3DS.”  Other announced details are that the system will launch in aqua blue and cosmo black, and that the top screen will be 10% larger than it is on the DSi.  The announcements are pouring out, so you best head over to Kotaku for their ongoing liveblog of the event.
