New Devil Survivor Overclocked trailer invites you to change your destiny

Atlus just upped the new teaser trailer for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, the 3DS remake of the not-so-3 DS RPG whose original title wasn’t so overclocked. The video unfortunately does that handheld trailer thing where they show the game on a smaller screen within the video, presumably in fear how embarrassing it actually looks in a larger size. I’m not sure why, since the 3DS is supposed to have pretty great visuals, but hopefully the game will be just fine when it (re-)releases on June 28.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Kid Icarus playable at PAX East

The launch of the 3DS is less than three weeks away and Nintendo plans to woo the public with some big playable demos at this weekend’s PAX East event. The console maker plans to showcase playable demo stations for six launch day titles:

  • Dead or Alive Dimensions
  • Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
  • Nintendogs + Cats
  • Pilotwings Resort
  • Steel Diver
  • Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

That lineup is great and all, but Nintendo is also pulling out the big guns with playable versions of Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Capcom’s Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.

If you’re in the Boston area, I’d suggest getting in line now.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D will include Master Quest

John D. Villarreal, the “Game God” of Conservative New Media, was at last week’s Game Developers Conference and got a chance to play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. During his playtime, the Nintendo representative that was standing guard over the 3DS revealed that the re-release will include both the original game and the Master Quest arrange mode.

The Master Quest was previously only available as a pre-order bonus included with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker or as part of the Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition GameCube bundle, both of which will set you back quite a few rupees for a used copy today.

Sega announces Game Gear lineup for Japanese 3DS players

Nintendo announced so many insane features for the 3DS yesterday that some of them couldn’t even make the headline. One of the bigger surprises was that Sega Game Gear games would make it to the 3DS’s Virtual Console. To someone who started playing games in the 1990s, this would be like Microsoft Games Studio titles coming out on the PSP.

So far, Sega has announced which games will be available to download at launch in the land of the rising sun, and hopefully it’ll shed some light on what games we can expect in the US:

— Sonic and Tails 2
— Sonic Drift 2
— Columns
— The GG Shinobi
— Dragon Crystal: Shirani’s Maze

I don’t know about you, but Sonic, Shinobi, and Columns sound like enough on their own to keep you occupied on the go for a long time.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon game details, teaser trailer roll out

I’m sure you’re shocked, absolutely shocked, to discover that Activision is hard at work on a game adaptation of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The trilogy-capping entry in the Transformers film saga will be released this Summer and Transformers: War For Cybertron developer High Moon Studios has been hard at work on the PS3 and Xbox 360 edition for about a year now. The developer used this weekend’s New York Toy Fair to tease out a few details of the game to IGN along with that nifty trailer above.

According to Game Director Sean Miller, Dark of the Moon will feel instantly familar to anyone that played War For Cybertron as the game will feature a similar control and gameplay scheme. It will also feature an online multiplayer mode similar to War For Cybertorn, although Miller wouldn’t confirm or deny any game modes beyond Deathmatch.

Instead of following the movie’s script, the Dark of the Moon game will act as a prequel to the film, taking players through Detroit, Siberia and other locations. There will also be a third transformation option, Stealth Force, that IGN joked didn’t look very stealthy.

The Transformers: Dark of the Moon film will be released in theaters on July 1st and you can expect the PS3/Xbox 360 game to launch in a similar timeframe. A DS/3DS/Wii version is also in the works at Behavior Interactive.

Angry Birds flying onto 3DS this year

A series of tweets on Rovio’s Twitter account have revealed that the publisher is bringing all three versions of Angry Birds to the 3DS this year.

The games (Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio) will be downloadable through the 3DS’ eShop (which doesn’t come online until May). It’s unknown if they’ll be bundled together, or sold separately as individual games. This news comes one day after Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime slammed $1 mobile games, though he referred to Angry Birds as “a great piece of experience.”

Hit the break for all the non-angry Rovio tweets that confirm this news. (more…)

Pac-Man and Galaga reimagined for 3DS

Namco Bandai announced yesterday that two of their most legendary franchises will see new treatments taking advantage of some of the Nintendo 3DS’ more distinctive features. No specific release date was mentioned, but sometime this year the publisher will release Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions, one package including the new Pac-Man Tilt and Galaga 3D Impact. Both games heavily utilize the 3DS’ gyroscope; Pac-Man Tilt has players, you guessed it, tilting their 3DS from side to side to work Pac-Man through 2D platforming levels while Galaga 3D Impact has you play from the seat of a turret, moving around to locate and shoot down the Galaga forces coming at you.

Both games seem to deviate greatly from from the formulas we’ve all grown accustomed to, but it’s definitely a cool thing to see them make new gameplay types using all the 3DS has to offer, instead of just giving us the same game from the 80’s in 3D.

3DS eShop opening in May, to sell 3D Classics

The same Nintendo financial briefing that revealed that new Kirby games are in development for the Wii and DS also confirmed a few details about the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

According to Nintendo, the eShop will be available after the 3DS’ first system update, which is scheduled for sometime at the end of May. This update will also enable DSi-to-3DS transferring of DSiWare games and the 3DS Internet browser.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told the crowd that the reason for the delay was so Nintendo could create an online storefront that allowed gamers to easier browse the eShop’s offerings. He also noted that he didn’t want any gamers to be “buried” in eShop’s menus.

Another possible reason for the delay was Iwata’s announcement of “3D Classics.” That’s right, games available on the 3DS’ Virtual Console will be given a 3D facelift. Which titles Nintendo has planned for the 3D Classics line is currently a mystery, but we’ll likely learn more as the handheld’s March 27th launch looms.
