XBLA Today: Joy Ride Turbo, Monster World Collection, Alex Kidd & Co.
Microsoft has added a trio of new games to the Xbox Live Arcade today, or depending on how you look at it, seven new games.
This week’s featured released is the Kinect-less Joy Ride Turbo. This racer for the whole family can now be played with a controller and can be downloaded for 800 Microsoft Points ($10):
From the Kinect Joy Ride creators comes Joy Ride Turbo, a controller-based arcade racer delivering precision handling and crazy stunts with more thrills, speed, & mayhem! In the new Stunt Park, you’re free to show off! There’s no limit to the whacky tour de force you achieve with friends. It’s a vibrant playground for your car – jump off cliffs, shoot from a cannon, & more. Plus, explore and find collectibles that unlock cars – giving you an edge for faster races and death-defying tricks. Race new tracks, old favorites and 3 modes of play: Battle Race, Pro Race & Time Trial. Challenge family & friends to local 4-player split-screen or race up to 8 on Xbox Live. With Joy Ride Turbo, everyone’s in the driver’s seat in this madcap kart racer.
Also available this week, for 800 Microsoft Points apiece ($10), are a pair of classic game collections from Sega.
The Monster World Collection includes Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, and for the first time outside of Japan, Monster World IV. Then there’s the less-thematically similar Alex Kidd & Co. Collection, which includes Alex Kidd in Wonder Land, Super Hang-On, and The Revenge of Shinobi.

More Sega classics on their way to PSN, XBLA
Sega has announced they plan to bring more classic games from the Master System/Genesis era to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this month. Sega is calling this latest wave of classics “Vintage Collection 3,” and that moniker is more than apt.
Xbox 360 gamers will receive 12 Sega classics over the next two weeks. The titles will be released as special three-game collections for a very nice price (800 Microsoft Points/$10 each). Check out the release schedule right here:
Monster World Collection (5/23)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)
Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis)
Monster World IV (Genesis)
Alex Kidd & Co. Collection (5/23)
Super Hang-On (Arcade)
The Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)
Golden Axe Collection (5/30)
Golden Axe (Arcade)
Golden Axe 2 (Genesis)
Golden Axe 3 (Genesis)
Streets of Rage Collection (5/30)
Streets of Rage (Genesis)
Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis)
Streets of Rage 3 (Genesis)
Sega also has six classic titles on tap for the PlayStation Store on May 22. Why the difference? Because the PSN got all three Streets of Rage games and all three Golden Axe games months ago. So with that knowledge, we know that Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Monster World IV, Super Hang-On, The Revenge of Shinobi, and Alex Kidd in Miracle World will all be available as individual downloads on the PSN this week for $4.99 each.
