Dark Souls Remastered’s Solaire of Astora will get his own Amiibo figure; Network Test will be available before launch
Nintendo is definitely keeping their Amiibo line relevant with the announcement that Solaire of Astora (from Dark Souls) will receive his own figure on May 25.
Solaire’s Amiibo figure will launch alongside the Switch debut of Dark Souls Remastered, and players who tap the jolly knight will be able to perform a “Praise the Sun” gesture whenever they want. However, this freedom won’t extend to the Amiibo figure’s availability. According to Bandai Namco, the figure will be sold exclusively through GameStop.
The publisher also confirmed that a free Network Test will be available for Dark Souls Remastered on the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One before launch. More information about the Network Test will be announced soon.
In the meantime, be sure to watch the new Dark Souls Remastered footage from this evening’s Nintendo Direct presentation. You’ll also catch a glimpse at Solaire’s Amiibo figure.

Dark Souls Remastered will also be coming to the PC, PS4, Xbox One on May 25
Bandai Namco has big plans for Dark Souls Remastered, and it looks like the enhanced re-release will actually make its way to multiple platforms this Spring. In addition to the franchise’s Nintendo Switch debut, the publisher will also release Dark Souls Remastered for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 25.
“Dark Souls Remastered delivers the same great gameplay, online mechanics, and environmental storytelling that has inspired countless game players and developers,” said Kasumi Yogi, the Associate Brand Manager for Bandai Namco Entertainment America. “We are excited to watch the thriving Dark Souls community grow and support new players experiencing the title for the first time.”
This new version of the acclaimed action RPG will come packaged with the Artorias of the Abyss expansion, and players who own a PC, PS4 Pro, or Xbox One X will be able to experience the game in “Dynamic 4K” resolution.
The first trailer for Dark Souls Remastered has been embedded above.

Dark Souls Remastered will be released for the Switch on May 25
It looks like the rumors were true, and the newest Nintendo Direct presentation has just been unleashed upon the world. Though the video clocks in at just over 14 minutes, this “Nintendo Direct Mini” still features a treasure trove of new announcements for the Switch.
Nintendo, Bandai Namco, and From Software are teaming up to bring Dark Souls to the Nintendo Switch this Spring. The re-release will be known as Dark Souls Remastered, and it’ll include improved graphics, a higher framerate, and the Artorias of the Abyss expansion:
Dark Souls Remastered The first title in the genre-defining action role-playing franchise is coming to Nintendo Switch. Dark Souls Remastered includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, as well as improved framerate and resolution from the original Dark Souls game for an exhilarating return to Lordran. This marks the franchise’s debut on a Nintendo platform, and now for the first time ever, this revered (and challenging) game can be played on the go.
This is the first time a Dark Souls game will appear on a Nintendo platform, and Dark Souls Remastered will launch for the Switch on May 25.

Dark Souls Trilogy might be in development for Nintendo Switch

From Software was one of the most surprising names to be found on Nintendo’s partial list of publishers and developers that are currently working on games for the Switch. The prolific developer has supported Nintendo hardware in the past, but always to a much lower extant than PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
That might change in a big way in 2017.
According to a new rumor report on Let’s Play Video Games, From Software is currently developing a “Game of the Year” re-release for Dark Souls III, and the brutal action RPG might also make its way to the Switch. The site’s source claims that “development on a Switch port has been underway for several months via a small team” though “From Software [is] waiting to see initial sales data before committing to producing ports.”
Furthermore, Dark Souls III might be joined on the Switch by the first two games in the franchise, as the source also said, “discussions internally at the company have discussed the financial viability of re-releasing the main three Dark Souls titles on the Switch with their DLC bundled in.”
Let’s Play Video Games has reported on a number of Switch rumors that turned out to be true, so it seems very possible that Nintendo fans will get their first crack at the Dark Souls franchise beginning next year.

MS drops Gold requirement for entertainment apps; Games With Gold coming to Xbox One

The Apocalypse List
The bombs have fallen, the zombies have horded, food is scarce, and you’ve boarded yourself up in a bunker that’ll stand for a hundred years. Battlefield 3 blows away the competition in October NPD report

The NPD Group has released their report on the ten bestselling titles in October and, not surprisingly, Battlefield 3 takes the top spot. EA’s modern warfare sim likely won’t hold onto the crown for long as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released to record-breaking sales earlier this week.
Battlefield 3 was followed by a slew of new releases including Batman: Arkham City, NBA 2K12, Rage, Just Dance 3, Dark Souls, and Forza Motorsport 4. That’s right, the brutal action RPG Dark Souls outsold Microsoft’s big racing franchise.
Holdovers for this month include Madden NFL 12, Gears of War 3, and that other football game, FIFA Soccer 12. The complete top ten for October can be found after the break. (more…)
