Hitman: Absolution trademarked by Square Enix
Siliconera has unearthed a new trademark filing by Square Enix Europe for Hitman: Absolution. In light of IO Interactive’s recent Hitman 5 ARG, which pointed to an E3 2011 debut for the sequel, I’d guess that Absolution is the game’s official subtitle.
With E3 2011 just six weeks away, we won’t have to wait long to learn more about Agent 47’s next assignment.

Hitman 5 ARG points to E3 reveal
The users at the Hitman Forum have apparently cracked the barcode code from IO Interactive’s alternate reality game and discovered the first screenshot for Hitman 5. While the game’s publisher (Square Enix) has yet to confirm that the image to your left is an authentic screenshot, it does feature Agent 47’s signature gloves and silencer.
Further manipulation of the barcodes also reveal a number that looks suspiciously like a date: 06-07-11. And surprise surprise, that’s the first day of the E3 expo.
So it looks like Hitman 5 is coming (which we knew) and it’ll be announced at E3 (which is nice to know, but kind of obvious). But why didn’t IO/Square Enix just come out and announce it? This viral marketing stuff is annoying.

Hitman 5 ARG sneaks up on us
Since late February, the Hitman Forum has been tracking a possible alternate reality game related to the unannounced (but very much in the works) Hitman 5.
The forumgoers have cataloged a series of images that all bear conspicuous barcodes ending in “47.” The initial image, found in a catalog at the Sundance Film Festival, included a “Hitman Series” box of donuts. These images lead to other images and IO Interactive’s Community Manager has been there every step of the way to (unofficially) provide support in the search.
Eidos Interactive executives and Agent 47’s voice actor have both inadvertantly confirmed that a fifth Hitman game (and the first since 2006’s Hitman: Blood Money) is in development at IO Interactive. The Hitman Forum users haven’t cracked the code yet, but I’m sure this means an announcement will sneak up on us very soon.
