All Articles: Mario Kart 7

It’s a Mario Kart 7 gameplay trailer! Let’s a go!

Mario Kart 7 is a rather unimaginative title for the first 3DS game in the racing series, but after watching the gameplay trailer above, it certainly looks like it’ll scratch that kart racing itch. And be on the lookout for the new Fire Flower weapon and the new first-person mode.

Mario Kart 7 will be available in stores on December 4.

3DS Release Dates: Super Mario 3D Land on Nov. 13, Mario Kart 7 on Dec. 4

It looks like Nintendo isn’t done with 3DS news as they’ve revealed North American release dates for two of this Fall’s most anticipated games. Super Mario 3D Land will suit up in stores on November 13 while Mario Kart 7 will Super Mushroom blast its way into stores on December 4.

In case the big news has eluded you thus far, Super Mario 3D Land will bring back the beloved Tanooki Suit while Mario Kart 7 will add “a new optional first-person driving mode that is controlled using the gyro sensor” and new playable characters such as Lakitu and Metal Mario.

These two games will be joined by a new 3DS system update in November that’ll unlock the ability to record 3D video and a new StreetPass experience known as StreetPass Mii Plaza.

Finally, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition will be available as a free download from the DSiWare Shop/3DS eShop from Septemeber 28, 2011 until February 20, 2012. The anniversary re-release will lead right into a packed 2012 that includes Mario Tennis 3DS, Animal Crossing 3DS, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Paper Mario and the recently delayed Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Tetris: Axis announced for 3DS

Get ready for Tetris like you’ve never seen it before! Tetris: Axis will be released on the 3DS on October 2, bringing a whole new level to a game we all grew up on.

The game features up to 20 different game modes as well as multiplayer battles – up to eight players can fight each other, even if only one has the game. There will also be functionality with both AR cards and SpotPass.

Tetris Axis will kick off the 3DS’ fall lineup, and will be followed by Pokemon Rumble Blast on October 24, Super Mario 3D Land in November, and Mario Kart 7 in December. Hopefully somewhere in there we’ll get an announcement for Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D as well.

Satoru Iwata apologizes to 3DS early adopters for price drop

In a stunning move, Nintendo dropped the price for their brand new handheld, the 3DS, from $249.99 to $169.99. While Warp Zoned Editor-In-Chief John Scalzo expertly detailed the possible reasoning behind this (eat your heart out, Pach!), it still has many early adopters shocked and hurt. Nintendo has announced the Ambassador Program, which will give early adopters access to 20 free downloadable games. But Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president, went even further, issuing a personal apology and taking a 50% slash in pay after reporting on Nintendo’s heavy losses.

Those awesome fellas over at Giant Bomb posted a translation of the letter Iwata wrote on the company’s website, which you can read after the jump. (more…)

Nintendo slashes 3DS price to $170, announces 3DS Ambassadors program

It’s no secret that the 3DS is not selling as well as Nintendo would like. That will all change on August 12 when the publisher plans to cut the price of their latest handheld to $169.99. That’s an astounding $80 price drop from its current price of $249.99.

The Big N has given tentative release dates (and final titles) to their biggest 3DS games of the Fall. Super Mario 3D Land will launch in November, Mario Kart 7 will follow in December and Kid Icarus: Uprising will land in stores “during the holiday season.”

So everyone thinking about buying a 3DS should wait two weeks, right? Not so fast. Nintendo has also announced the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program, a sort of “thank you” to everyone who bought a 3DS at the original price point. Nintendo plans to shower everyone who accesses the 3DS eShop before midnight on August 11 with 20 Virtual Console downloads… all for free.

And these games aren’t castoffs Nintendo couldn’t sell to Captain N, they’re bona fide classics in their own right. Want the full list, hit the jump. (more…)

Mario Kart 3DS trailer features high-flying fun

Nintendo is bringing their biggest franchises to the 3DS in a big way and the new Mario Kart 3DS that debuted at this year’s E3 Expo promises several new ways to play the game.

Mario Kart 3DS adds gliders to every kart so Mario, Bowswer, Peach and all the rest can float after a big jump. Each kart is also equipped with a propellor allowing some races to take place underwater. Nintendo has given kart customization an overhaul as players will be able to choose a body and tires for their kart independent of their racer. Even something old is new again as coins are back for the first time since Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

Familiar tracks round out the Mario Kart 3DS with ghost houses, highways and desert tracks all visible. It also looks like we’ll be racing on an airship when the game ships to stores sometime this year.

Nintendo @ E3 11: Mario Kart 3DS is tricked out

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime just introduced Mario Kart 3DS and he described it as a “tricked out version you’ve never played before.” And he may be right. Karts can now be outfitted with gliders to get a little extra air off of jumps as well as travel underwater. Also, coins are back for speed boosts.

Mario Kart 3DS will be released this holiday season.

Star Fox 64 3D gets Arrange Mode; free 3D Excitebike download; Mario Kart 3DS in 2011

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed a little bit more about the upcoming 3DS remake Star Fox 64 3D during the publisher’s quarterly financial briefing.

According to Iwata, Star Fox 64 3D will include a new Arrange Mode to give gamers a new take on a classic game: “[W]e are planning to release […] a newly-arranged version of Star Fox 64, the most well-known game of all the 3D shooting games in the time of Nintendo 64.” He also revealed that the game will include motion controls for piloting an Arwing, though how this’ll square with the 3D display (which really needs to be steady) remains to be seen.

The President also revealed that Nintendo will have a free gift for gamers when the 3DS eShop opens in May, a downloadable “3D Classics” version of Excitebike.

Finally, Iwata reconfirmed that Mario Kart 3DS will be released in 2011. Presumably, we’ll learn more at E3.
