Nintendo Download: Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, Azure Striker Gunvolt, SteamWorld Dig, more

If you’re a fan of retro games, then I recommend taking a gander at this week’s Nintendo eShop update… you might just find something you like.
Wii U owners will be able to download Mega Man X3, the final Mega Man game released for the Super NES. SteamWorld Dig, Image & Form’s critically-acclaimed 3DS platformer, is also available for the Wii U today. Finally, The Fall, a moody platformer that the developer has compared to Super Metroid, was released earlier this week.
Over on the 3DS, players will get the chance to download Azure Striker Gunvolt, a Super NES-inspired game created by Keiji Inafune and Inti Creates. And for a limited time, players who purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt will also receive Mighty Gunvolt, an NES-inspired platformer, for free. Also available this week is Thorium Wars: Attack of the Skyfighter, a space shooter, and Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, a puzzle/crime-filled crossover of epic proportions.
You can find more information on all of these games after the break. (more…)

New Releases: Madden NFL 15, Metro Redux, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, More

The month of August is coming to a close and its taking the Summer gaming drought with it.
As they do every year, EA Sports wants to ask: “Are you ready for some football?” If you are, then you’re probably already aware that Madden NFL 15 will be available this week. Just like last year, the game will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. And if you haven’t made your next-generation console choice yet, there’s going to be a Madden NFL 15 Xbox One Bundle available as well.
A different kind of battle will take place on the 3DS this week with the release of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. These two titans of the handheld puzzle game genre will go head-to-head to prove once and for all that… actually, nevermind. Neither character challenges the other and, in fact, they team up in Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney to solve a crime. So I’m not sure where the “vs” in the title comes from.
Finally this week, a trio of games will receive spiffy re-releases on a new platform. NIS America resurrects the first game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series on the Vita as Hyperdimension Neptunia ReBirth 1. And Deep Silver is bringing back Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in a next-generation package known as Metro Redux on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
