New Homefront release date revealed… March 15

Through a post on Homefront’s own Twitter account, the new release date of March 15th has been revealed. This is the US release date for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions; the UK will have to wait a few days longer (until March 18th). The game has been pushed back several times for various reasons, but it looks as though it will finally make its way to shelves soon enough… just a week later than expected. It seems as though the publishers have about as much vision on a shipping date as the character on the game’s cover art.

New Batman: Arkham City screenshots give bad guys something to lose sleep over

I am totally ready to mess up those dudes to the left. A few new screenshots have leaked for Batman: Arkham City coming sometime in the fourth quarter of 2011. In addition to the quick glimpse into predator mode to the left, they also show Bruce stalking a helicopter, Harley looking hot as ever, and Two Face doing his (or, um, “their”) best Uncle Sam impression. Hit the gallery below for the pics in their full size. (more…)

Ico novel, Castle of the Mist, finally coming to America

Ico fans rejoice: Miyuki Miyabe’s Ico novel, Castle of the Mist, is at last being translated into English and is coming to America July 19th, according to Anime News Network (although the publisher’s website actually says on or around August 16th). According to the blurb, “Based on the video game filmmaker Guillemo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) called a ‘masterpiece,’ Japan’s leading fantasist Miyuki Miyabe has crafted a tale of magic, loss, and love that will never be forgotten.” Miyabe is known in America for her novel Brave Story, which was made into an animated film, manga series, and several video games.

Wow. Just. Seriously. I am nearly speechless. Two years ago I read – and re-read – and re-read again – the first two chapters of this novel. I found a fanslation somewhere on the Internet and inhaled it over and over, eager for more Ico. Like the game, it’s charming and haunting, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the story. For those of you who haven’t played the game yet, you’re in luck – the game will be re-released in HD and full 3D with Shadow of the Colossus on March 31. I’ve been having sweet dreams of sitting with Yorda on the couch, with that delightful music playing in the background. In the meantime, I’m still playing LittleBigPlanet 2 as Ico, and I’ve been listening to the soundtrack. I’m trying to be patient. Really.

We’re all playing entirely too much Call of Duty: Black Ops

Activision has released another statistics graphic for Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer today and the numbers are starting to get a little astounding. In addition to the most popular weapons, perks, and killstreaks, we’ve apparently fought 161 World War II’s everyday since the game’s launch. I could go on and on about how crazy they are, but the full image is viewable above for your clicking pleasure. I recently got back to the game myself and it’s a pleasant surprise to see some of the network issues cleared up. If only some of Activision’s other studios were this dedicated…

Bethesda outlines and dates 2011 lineup: Brink, Hunted, Rage, Skyrim

Today Bethesda announced its biggest games for 2011, and it’s looking like a pretty solid lineup. Brink, the highly smooth First Person Shooter from Splash Damage blending single player, co-op, and multiplayer will be coming May 17th in the U.S. and May 20th in Europe; the fantasy action game Hunted will release June 1st in the U.S. and June 3rd in Europe; id Software’s highly anticipated Rage will finally land September 13th in the U.S. and September 16th in Europe; and finally, Bethesda Game Studios’ very own The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be launching worldwide on the convenient 11/11/11. All of these titles will be releasing for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, with RAGE still coming to the Mac as well.

I’ve never been a fan of the publisher, but this is definitely a strong year for them. I’ve been following Rage for a long time, and Doom-meets-MotorStorm is something I simply can’t pass up.
