All Articles: Resident Evil 4

Capcom will re-release Resident Evil 4, RE5, RE6 for the PS4, Xbox One this year

Capcom has always been happy to re-release the early entries in the Resident Evil franchise on any new platform that comes along, but they’re clearly taking it to a new level with their latest announcement. Over on the Capcom-Unity blog, the publisher has just confirmed that they plan to bring Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil 6 to the PS4 and Xbox One this year.

All three games will be priced at $19.99 apiece, and Resident Evil 6 will launch first, on March 29. It’ll be followed by Resident Evil 5 this Summer, and Resident Evil 4 in the Fall. And for fans to buy their games from a brick-and-mortar retailer, Capcom plans to stock store shelves with a physical game disc for each title.

It’s a good time to be a fan of the Resident Evil franchise as nearly the entire series has received, or is in line to receive, a re-release on the PS4 and Xbox One. Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 are currently available on the current-generation consoles, while a full Resident Evil 2 remake is set to launch next year.

Nintendo Download: Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Shutshimi, Typoman demo, more

residentevil4boxResident Evil 4 is getting yet another re-release as Capcom added Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition to the Wii U eShop today. Leon Kennedy’s search for the President’s daughter should be playable with the Wii U GamePad (though Nintendo didn’t mention it in their announcement), and it also includes the Ada Wong-starring “Separate Ways” campaign. Just watch out for those zombies.

Also available to download on the Wii U today is Shutshimi, a shooter that stars “a musclebound fish with memory problems.” I guess it’s a good thing that each level is only ten seconds long.

Finally this week, in case you missed it last year, a demo of the excellent Typoman is now available to download on the Wii U eShop. If the trial version of the title piques your interest, you can upgrade to the full game for a discounted price for the next two weeks as Typoman is 15% off until February 18.

More information on all of these games (and several other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

Resident Evil 6 special editions to include classic game downloads

A week ago, id Software announced their excellent Doom 3 package for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Not only would the game include an updated version of the third Doom game, but it would also include the first two games in the series as well. But I think Capcom just trumped them.

The publisher has just announced the Resident Evil 6: Anthology Edition and the Resident Evil 6: Archives Edition. What do these special editions include? Just digital downloads of nearly every other Resident Evil game.

The Anthology Edition is exclusive to the PS3 and will include downloadable copies of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident Evil 4 HD, and Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition.

The Archives Edition is, you guessed it, exclusive to the Xbox 360 and it’ll include a slightly different collection of downloads: Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD, Resident Evil 4 HD, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, and the Resident Evil: Degeneration movie.

Resident Evil 6: Anthology Edition and Resident Evil 6: Archives Edition will be available in stores on October 2 for $89.99 each.

Tetris, Black Ops DLC lead all PlayStation Store purchases in 2011

For over 20 years, Tetris has captivated the world. And in 2011, it sank its tetrahedronal teeth into PS3 gamers all over again as the vintage puzzler managed to outsell every other PSN game on the PlayStation Store. Sing it with me!

Doo, do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do, do, dododo.

The data comes from a Game Informer report listing the ten best-selling PSN games for 2011. Other top ten contenders include the Resident Evil 4 HD remake, the InFamous 2 standalone expansion InFamous: Festival of Blood, and Telltale’s Back to the Future adaptation.

You can find the full list, as well as a look at the bestselling DLC add-ons, after the break. (more…)

Resident Evil 4 HD, Burnout Crash! added to XBLA

That headline sounds awfully familiar. And it should, as most of the games available in this week’s Xbox Live Marketplace were added to the PlayStation Store yesterday as well.

The big new release this week is Resident Evil 4, which is now available in HD for the first time. The high definition port will be part of the XBLM’s Games on Demand service, even though a matching retail release never materialized. It’ll be joined by downloadable versions of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and MLB 2K11.

This week’s Xbox Live Arcade additions include the top-down racer Burnout Crash! and the arcade platformer Rotastic.

More information on both of these titles can be found at Xbox.com (Burnout Crash!, Rotastic).

Resident Evil 4 HD, Burnout Crash! added to PlayStation Store

Resident Evil 4 is now available on the PlayStation Store in stunning high definition, so if you never played it on the GameCube, PS2, PC, Wii or iPhone over the years, now’s your chance! To further sweeten the pot for PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony is discounting the game to $9.99 ($19.99 is the regular price) and they’re offering up Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and Nemesis for free.

If you’d prefer to play a newer game, EA and Criterion have added the top-down Burnout Crash! to the PlayStation Store.

Of course, modern is the exact opposite of this week’s PlayStation Store theme. All of the remaining “new” releases are actually downloadable versions of games we know and love including the arcade/Geneis classic Altered Beast, Volition’s Saints Row 2, Disney’s Bolt and Cubixx HD (an upscaled version of a PSP Mini released in 2010).

The PSP Store gets the same old is new treatment as Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin is the sole new release.

You can read all about this week’s new releases and game add-ons by calling up the Internet Archive or visiting the PlayStation.Blog.

Resident Evil 4 HD, Code Veronica X HD gameplay is looking pretty good

On the upcoming episode of the Warp Zoned podcast, we talk about Ashley from Resident Evil 4, and how she’s one of our most hated characters in gaming. If you’re someone who loathed her, you better get used to the idea of spending a lot more time with her, as you’re probably going to want to pick up the high definition remake of RE4. It’s looking really great, as is Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD, which you can see after the jump.

Resident Evil 4 HD releases on the PlayStation Store and Xbox 360 Games on Demand on September 20, with Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD arrriving on both platforms a week later, on September 27. (more…)
