New details about The Order: 1886 revealed in Game Informer
I have to admit, when I first saw the trailer for The Order: 1886 back at E3, I was sure it was going to be Left 4 Dead meets Castlevania. Looks like I was a bit off.
This month, Game Informer‘s cover story blows the lid off the mysterious PlayStation 4 title, giving us a wealth of information on story, setting, and gameplay mechanics. The game is said to be a third-person action title, with some amazing visuals. Weaponry blends medieval and science fiction – lightning pistols, for example – and is said to be quite stunning.
The PS4 exclusive is set to hit stores some time in 2014.

Ready At Dawn reveals more details about The Order: 1886
The Order: 1886 made a big splash when it debuted at Sony’s E3 2013 Press Conference. But while the cinematic trailer was absolutely epic, we were left to speculate exactly what kind of game The Order: 1886 would be. Thankfully, a PlayStation Blog EU interview with Ready At Dawn’s Ru Weerasuriya has shed some (lamp)light on the steampunk game.
PS Blog: So, exactly what kind of game is The Order: 1886?
Ru Weerasuriya: The Order is a third person action adventure with shooting mechanics. It’s very much story-based – it’s a linear story-based game. We’re trying to tell a story. It’s what we call a “filmic experience.”
The whole interview is definitely worth a read and, I can’t stress this enough, you really need to watch the trailer again.

The Order: 1886’s E3 trailer brings steampunk knights to the PS4
One of the surprises from Sony’s E3 event was Ready At Dawn’s The Order: 1886. Coming across as a fusion of London-based period detective drama Whitechapel and Dishonored, it seems to take most of its inspiration from the latter, with the trailer showcasing technological weapons in the Victorian era. With one of the characters referred to as “Galahad,” it looks like Ready At Dawn (and their development partner, Sony Santa Monica) has decided to update the old Arthurian legend and cast the Knights of the Round Table as steampunk warriors battling hordes of demons. A quote from Mallory’s Le Morte D’Arthur even opens the trailer.
While no release date has been announced, we will be keeping a close eye on this one.

Sony @ E3 13: The Order 1886 announced
Sony Santa Moncia Studios and Ready At Dawn unveiled their new PS4 title, The Order 1886, during Sony’s E3 Press Conference today. The footage shown, shot entirely in-game, looks to be a steampunk Castlevania: Lords of Shadows mixed Left 4 Dead. I’m impressed.
Can’t wait to hear more.
