Xbox Store Today: Phantom Dust, Injustice 2, The Surge, more
Visitors to the Xbox Games Store today will be greeted by a blast from the past, the latest from NetherRealm Studios, and a new action RPG from Deck 13.
Phantom Dust was originally released for the Xbox in 2004, and was one of Microsoft’s first attempts to cater to the Japanese market. Microsoft’s push didn’t go as planned, but Phantom Dust became a cult hit that is available to download for free on the Xbox One and Windows 10. The re-release features the same gameplay that hooked fans more than a decade ago, as well as cross-device multiplayer, Achievements, and a new 16×9 presentation.
Also available to download today for the Xbox One is Injustice 2, the latest one-on-one fighting game from NetherRealm Studios. With Superman in prison and his Regime in disarray, players will once again be able to jump into its completely unpredictable alternate universe.
Finally today, Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13 will bring The Surge to the Xbox One. This action RPG features a futuristic setting involving augmented soldiers doing battle with dismemberment guns… no, really.
More information on all of these games (and the rest of today’s new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

Injustice 2, Chroma Squad, The Surge, more added to PS Store
The heroes and villains of the DC Universe collide once more in Injustice 2, which is now available to download for the PS4. Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the sequel introduces a new antagonist (the planet collector Brainiac) and a customizable Gear System.
Also available to download for the PS4 this week (on Friday) is Chroma Squad, a strategy RPG heavily inspired by the Power Rangers franchise, and The Surge, a new Souls-like action RPG from Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13.
As usual, a smattering of other games were also added to the PlayStation Store including Akiba’s Beat (PS4 and Vita), an action RPG from Acquire; Shadow Warrior 2 (PS4), a goofy FPS sequel from Flying Wild Hog; Farpoint (PS4), a PlayStation VR-powered shooter from Sony; and Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas (Vita), an overhead action RPG that is rather reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda.
You can learn more about all of these games (and a few other new releases) after the break. (more…)

New Retail Releases: Injustice 2, Fire Emblem Echoes, The Surge, More
The DC Universe will descend into civil war once more with this week’s release of Injustice 2 for the PS4 and Xbox One. But in addition to a new antagonist (Brainiac), the latest one-on-one fighting game from NetherRealm Studios will introduce a special Gear System that allows players to customize their favorite character in interesting new ways.
Speaking of war, Nintendo will also launch Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia for the 3DS this week. Widely expected to be the final Fire Emblem game released for the 3DS, Echoes is an enhanced remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was originally released in 1992, and only in Japan.
A wholly different type of RPG will be available from Focus Home and Deck 13, as they’ll release The Surge for the PS4 and Xbox One. An action RPG set in a science fiction setting, The Surge requires players to augment their character with technological enhancements and scavenge additional powerups from dismembered enemies.
Finally this week, the sugary and sweet Cooking Mama franchise returns to the 3DS with Cooking Mama: Sweet Shop. Seems like a rather appropriate choice for Mother’s Day.
A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Lords of the Fallen developer is working on an untitled sci-fi action RPG
Publisher CI Games recently told the world that Lords of the Fallen 2 would not be developed by original developer Deck 13 Interactive. Rather than resting on their laurels, the German developer sought out a new partner and teamed up with another small publisher, Focus Home Interactive, for their next game. Currently untitled, Deck 13 plans to release an action RPG set in a “dystopian sci-fi future” in 2017.
Aside from a teaser image depicting a man augmented with cybernetic implants, we don’t have much to go on just yet. We know the game will be an “original property” with a PC, PS4, and Xbox One release planned. Focus Home went on to add the action RPG will feature “innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat.”
Focus Home Interactive’s Managing Partner, Cedric Lagarrigue, also said: “We are ecstatic to announce this new partnership with one of the very best independent European development studios. We’ve been excited by Deck 13’s new project since our first exchange with them, and as we’ve just got through the pre-production phase, we’re fully convinced by their capacities to deliver one of the most exciting RPGs to come in the future.”
We’ll learn more about Deck 13’s action RPG, including its title, at a later date.
