Just Stop! Sony and Microsoft Will NOT Block Used Games in Their Next-Gen Consoles

When the Internet decides to collectively believe something that’s just not true, we have to cry out… Just Stop! This is what’s making a Warp Zoned editor rip his computer from the wall in frustration today…
Even though Sony’s February 20th presentation is still officially known as “Meeting 2013,” and unofficially as their “See the Future” event, the gaming populace is resolute in its belief that the PlayStation 4/Orbis will be unveiled to the public on that Wednesday evening. Actually, I have a hard time disagreeing with the hive mind of the Internet on this one. The PS4 reveal is but a fortnight away, I’m sure of it. But the drones of the Internet have also decreed that Sony will include some kind of nefarious scheme within the PS4 that’ll disable used games on the system.
No! Just Stop! YOU. ARE. WRONG. (more…)
Daily Scoop: February 7, 2013 – Adventure Time!
Whew! I feel like my life is a big adventure right now. I mean, I don’t have a dog who can change his shape and size, but I do often sing to my cat that he’s Pup the Cat and I’m Nik the Human. Does that count as being a part of the adventure? I sure hope so.
Anyway! I forgot to mention yesterday that there are some deals going on at GameStop. The Angry Birds Trilogy, Dragon’s Dogma, and Wreck-It Ralph are all $10 off, and Wipeout 3 is $20 off. There are also some deals on Xbox 360 accessories as well, including $15 off the Kinect with Kinect Adventures. Scoop ’em up!
Just one t-shirt today, but it’s a sorely tempting one, mashing up two of my favorite things! (more…)

Rumor: Evolution Studios working on PS4 racing game
What is Evolution Studios up to? The MotorStorm developer’s last game was the PSN-friendly MotorStorm RC, and it was released almost a year ago. According to a report on STFU and Play, the answer is that Evolution is working on an unannounced racing game for the PlayStation 4/Orbis.
According to their tipster, Evolution has been busy ramping up production on the next-generation game thanks to an influx of talent from two recently shuttered studios: Bizarre Creations and Sony Liverpool. This includes Ged Talbot, the Lead Designer on Bizarre’s final game, Blur.
Evolution’s PS4 game is supposed to be similar in style to Project Gotham Racing and was said to be originally linked to the Gran Turismo series (similar to last year’s Forza Horizon). However, Sony Japan put the kibosh on that and now the title will stand on its own.
STFU and Play closed by saying the game would be formally announced during Sony’s “See the Future” event on February 20, so it’ll likely be a launch game for the PS4.

Rumor: Project Gotham Racing 5 in the works for Xbox 720 at Lucid Games
I have a feeling this Xbox 720 “logo” is going to get a lot of work over the next few months.
STFU and Play has posted a rumor that claims Lucid Games (a development house made up of former Bizarre Creations and Criterion staff members) is hard at work on Project Gotham Racing 5 for the Xbox 720/Durango.
Bizarre Creations created the PGR series back on the original Xbox and a new entry has been rumored to be in development ever since Activision scooped up Bizarre in 2007.
Interestingly enough, a search of Lucid Games’ website reveals a mystery project known as “Sky Light” that carries the tagline “Road Opens 2013.”
This lines up nicely with STFU and Play’s assertion that Project Gotham Racing 5 will be a launch title for the Xbox 720/Durango, which is rumored to launch in Fall 2013.
Daily Scoop: February 6, 2013 – A good day for gaming
Last night was board game night, and for the first time in ages, we played Cards Against Humanity. Despite the fact that I’ve seen most of those cards, I still laughed until my stomach hurt. Then I learned how to play Ticket to Ride and got my butt kicked. It was a great night whether you won or lost (I lost both games!).
There’s nothing new in the way of deals today. Nada. Zip. Which is good for me, since I’m working my way through about four video games right now, each of which is very demanding on my attention. That’s not a complaint, because frankly, this is a really good day for gaming, and I can’t wait to get home and grab my pink DualShock and hop on the couch. But, you know. Not having game deals makes it easier for me to stop adding to my precarious pile of backlogged games.
What I do have for you are some pretty great t-shirts! (more…)

J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell tease possible game/movie collaboration

Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams and Valve CEO Gabe Newell spent the morning addressing the crowd at the 2013 D.I.C.E. Summit. Their talk, “Storytelling Across Platforms,” kicked off the conference and was heavily promoted before the four-day gathering of developers began.
Apparently, there was a good reason for that.
Abrams and Newell’s panel concluded a few minutes ago and they dropped a massive bombshell before they left. Are you ready? Abrams announced that he wants to partner with Valve on a video game and Newell announced that he wants work with Abrams (and his Bad Robot production company) on movies based on Half-Life and Portal:
Abrams: There’s an idea we [at Bad Robot] have for a game that we’d like to work with Valve on.
Newell: We’re going to find out if there’s a way we can work with you on a Portal and Half-Life movie.
Oh. My. God.

XBLA Today: Special Forces: Team X

Atari is in the midst of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, but they still added the Zombie Studios-developed Special Forces: Team X to the Xbox Live Arcade today.
Special Forces: Team X is a third person team-based shooter with cartoony graphics (they remind me of Archer, actually) and “over 100 map variations.” Special Forces: Team X has been priced at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) and is available to download now:
Special Forces: Team X (STX) is a team-centric third Person cover based shooter. The game features a unique map selection system, with the ability to shape the battlefield by selecting individual environmental pieces, resulting in over 100 map variations. STX supports asymmetric game play with 2-4 teams and five frenetic game modes. Cooperative play between team members is richly rewarded. Customize your skills, weapons and character to tailor your tactics and performance in battle. STX brings you the brutality of war as you take on the role of an elite soldier in a Special Forces squad.
