Activision confirms Call of Duty 10 will be released in 2013

CallOfDutyLogoAre you sitting down? You might want to sit down. Activision has announced something shocking at their quarterly financial conference.

A new Call of Duty game is in the works and will be released this Fall.

OK, that’s not very shocking. But Activision did announce Call of Duty 10 yesterday. That part’s true, however, we don’t know much about it at this point. Even the developer is a mystery. While 2013 is an “Infinity Ward year,” Activision has confirmed that Neversoft, Raven, and Sledgehammer are all working on Call of Duty-related projects. But here’s everything we know for sure, courtesy of Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg:

“The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher.”

Even with that tiniest speck of confirmation, I will hazard a guess that Call of Duty 10 will be released for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U sometime this November.

Hyrule Historia’s print run of 400,000 copies is good for #1 on NYT Bestsellers List

hyrulehistoria-usOn the “Hardcover Advice and Miscellaneous” list that is. The top non-fiction book is actually Sonia Sotomayor’s My Beloved World, a spot its held for three straight weeks. But that doesn’t stop Dark Horse Comics from crowing about their “#1 New York Times Bestseller,” which they’ve begun to do on their official blog.

Dark Horse also revealed that the highly anticipated history of The Legend of Zelda series will have a record print run approaching 400,000 copies and that as long as the book continues to sell, they’ll continue to print it.

Hyrule Historia has everything a Zelda fan could ever ask for: “Never-before-seen concept art, the full history of Hyrule, the official chronology of the games, and an exclusive comic by the foremost creator of The Legend of Zelda manga, Akira Himekawa.” It was released on January 29 and is available at retailers everywhere for a retail price of $34.99.

Bungie teases Destiny news soon; Activision reveals possible 2014 release date

Bungie, those dastardly minds behind the first Halo trilogy, have released a new video in their Bungie Community Theatre series that teases some imminent news about their next project, Destiny. Dubbed “Act Two,” the video suggests that we will be hearing more about the upcoming sci-fi/fantasy FPS in the coming weeks, most likely during Bungie’s panel at the Game Developers Conference. The video is made even funnier if you read the ridiculous credit sequence, which also includes a link to the outtakes.

Meanwhile, Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, discussed the company’s upcoming portfolio of games during their recent quarterly financial report. Destiny is a major piece of that portfolio and, reading between the lines, Hirshberg (via Destructoid) suggests that Destiny may not be due until 2014 (it was tentatively set for a Fall 2013 debut):

“It will also be a year of significant continued investment in several new properties with long-term potential that are not factored into our 2013 financial outlook, including Activision Publishing’s new Bungie universe, Call of Duty Online for China and the new Blizzard MMO.”

Whatever happens, it seems we will have an official look at the game sometime in March.

Daily Scoop: February 8, 2013 – The snow is coming

According to the weather report, and everyone who likes to engage in small talk, there is a large quantity of snow headed my way. The only reason this is upsetting to me is because it might cancel my Dungeons & Dragons game tomorrow, which would be a sad thing indeed. But if it did, then I could sit at home and play all the video games that have been piling up over the last few weeks, which is a happy thing. And it would also give me lots of time to work on homework, which is sad but also good. I mean… you get me.

There are no deals today, so instead of shopping for games online, you should go look at these awesome Adventure Time costumes that my friend Darin found on the Internet. They’re algebraic!

Just one t-shirt today… (more…)

Hitman set to furiously return to film in rebooted “Agent 47”

hitman47When the last Hitman film debuted six years ago, it left such a sour taste in moviegoer’s mouths that the franchise’s fate seemed as sealed as a stone tomb housing a rotting corpse. However, the powers that be at Fox International Productions have decided to give it another try with a rebooted film, Agent 47. Working from a script by Skip Woods, the writer of the original mess, they have opted to cast the blue-eyed Paul Walker as Agent 47, most famous for the Fast and the Furious series.

There is nothing wrong, per se, with Walker’s casting. He is a bankable name, but he is not bald. Timothy Olyphant, the original celluloid star, looked plain wrong with a shaved dome, and it was a massive misstep in his otherwise distinguished career. Why not cast Vin Diesel, Walker’s regular shaven-headed Fast and Furious co-star, someone who is possibly born to play Agent 47? In any case, once Walker is finished with his PR commitments to Fast and Furious 6, he will be shaving his scalp and donning the red tie. Only time will tell if the new film is able to wash away the memories of the original.

Nintendo announces ZombiU + Wii U console bundle

wiiu-zombiu-setUbisoft’s ZombiU is one of the unquestioned successes of the Wii U’s early life. The game has given the zombie genre a new twist and it has made more than a few gamers interested in the game of cricket. Hoping to hook new Wii U purchasers in the same way, Nintendo has announced its first special system bundle: the ZombiU Deluxe Set.

The ZombiU bundle comes with all the contents of the original Deluxe Set including a black Wii U system with 32GB of storage space, a Wii U GamePad, a copy of Nintendo Land (albeit as a download instead of as a disc), and an HDMI cable. It also includes a copy of ZombiU (naturally), a ZombiU-themed art book, and a Wii U Pro Controller. All this can be yours for $389.99 (a savings of $70 if all items were purchased separately)!

The ZombiU Deluxe Set will be available on February 17.

Next Assassin’s Creed game set for late 2013/early 2014

assassinscreed-logo

The Assassin’s Creed series has proved to be a big hit for Ubisoft and the publisher is gearing up to release a new game in the series very soon.

Speaking to investors today during the publisher’s quarterly financial report, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the game will be released during the 2014 fiscal year. Ubisoft’s fiscal year runs from April 1 through March 31, so expect the next Assassin’s Creed game to be released sometime this Fall or early next year.

Those hoping to continue the adventures of Assassin’s Creed III‘s Connor might be disappointed as Guillemot confirmed it’ll star a new main character and take place in a different time period:

“In financial 2014, we will introduce an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all-new team and time period, and we expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise.”

And, if you were worried, it doesn’t appear that the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be ending anytime soon as “multiple teams” are working to create “multiple chapters” in the series:

“It is the benefit of multiple teams, working on multiple chapters of the brand, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game.”
