Kickstart This! Winter 2013 Edition

Hello and welcome to the first Kickstart This! of 2013. A new year brings us new projects that we can help push from the planning stages to a grateful reality by offering donations in exchange for credits, goodies, and whatever oddities these humble game designers can dream up. This month we have the nomadic turn-based strategy game Unwritten, fantasy MMORPG Oceania, cuter-than-cute dungeon adventure Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake, evolutionary RPG Wildman, hectic sci-fi shooter Defend the Fawkin Station, and last, but by no means least, puzzle strategy game Pixel Kingdom. Madden NFL 25 chosen as name of this year’s game; Cover Vote begins March 11

madden2014-announcement-header

After teasing us yesterday with the above image, EA Sports has officially announced this year’s version of Madden NFL Football. But instead of carrying the name Madden NFL 14 like we all expected, the game will instead be known as Madden NFL 25 in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. This is really going to confuse people when the year 2024 rolls around.

“There’s no better way to celebrate and mark the culmination of 25 years of innovation than by naming this year’s game Madden NFL 25,” said Cam Weber, General Manager of American Football for EA Sports. “This year’s game will push the boundaries with gameplay and feature innovations that will lay a very strong foundation for the next 25 years of this storied franchise.”

EA also announced that this year’s Madden Cover Vote will begin on March 11. For Madden NFL 25, the team at EA Tiburon is going back in time to pit 32 NFL legends against 32 current players. Like last year, the bracket will be unveiled live on ESPN2’s SportsNation.

Madden NFL 25 is in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and will be released on August 27.

Console port of Resident Evil Revelations may shape the franchise’s future

residentevilrevelations-1

Are you one of the many who cried foul at Resident Evil 6‘s rather drastic departure from what made the series so great? Do you have trouple falling asleep at night, staring at the ceiling and wishing that the series would return to the style that made “survival horror” a common household name? Then start saving your money! Your purchase of Resident Evil Revelations may help govern where the series goes next.

Masachika Kawata, who produced Resident Evil Revelations on the 3DS, said that Capcom will be paying very close attention to the success of the home console port of the portable title:

“I think we’ll get a lot of input from the fanbase and the media on what it means for Resident Evil, and what it could mean for the future of the series. We’ll definitely be looking at that as a signpost for where we need to be going next.”

“Moving forward I can see us focusing even more on the horror aspect and fear in the series, and see us making something scarier than we have already.”

Vote with your wallets, people!

Killzone: Mercenary invades PS Vita on September 17th

If there’s anything the PlayStation Vita could stand to benefit from, it’s more games. So it warms this gamer’s heart to get a set release date for one of the platform’s flagship franchises. That’s right, FPSers, Killzone: Mercenary officially hits stores on September 17th.

Killzone: Mercenary is a new first-person shooter in the Killzone series, developed specifically for the PlayStation Vita platform and powered by the stunning Killzone engine. Starting just after the ending of the original Killzone, and revisiting many of the events from the Killzone trilogy, the game puts players in the rugged combat boots of a mercenary named Arran Danner. Danner is a former UCA-soldier who has no qualms about taking on paid contracts from the ISA as well as the Helghast.

But don’t go thinking you’ll have to wait seven excruciating months before seeing anything on the game. Sony also graciously provided a new trailer and some screenshots for game:
