Deadpool will be the Greatest Game Ever… according to Deadpool’s mom
In keeping with Deadpool’s comic book traditions, this none-too-serious trailer continues to break down the fourth wall, the titular character narrating this pastiche of other game previews. “You start with weird drony music, everything dark and foreboding. And stuff… Screw this!”
From here on in, we have air guitar, hand puppets, and Cable. That’s right, the trailer confirms the inclusion of Nathan Summers, the son of Scott Summers (AKA Cyclops) and Madelyne Prior (erm… AKA Madelyne Prior). The future soldier inflicted with a techno-organic virus partnered with Deadpool in what is arguably the pair’s best comic series, Cable & Deadpool. Also confirmed (via IMDB) is the inclusion of Cable’s other partner, the hot probability-altering assassin, Domino, as well as the whirlwind-generating marauder, Riptide, and everyone’s favourite Canadian, Wolverine.
While the juvenile, sexist humour may not be to everyone’s taste, the trailer at least shows that developer High Moon is willing to have a bit of fun with the design of the game, and that’s never a bad thing.
Is Star Wars 1313 in trouble at LucasArts?
Ever since George Lucas sold the Star Wars franchise to the enormous Death Star that is Disney last October, there has been a rush of news about the new films. From confirmation of a new trilogy, as well as stand-alone films, to the announcement that Star Trek director J.J. Abrams would jump ship to direct Episode VII, Disney have been slowly keeping fans excited with these tidbits.
However, the same cannot be said of the games based in the same universe, or more specifically, Star Wars 1313, which debuted at E3 2012 in June. Up until that point, an ambitious live action television show was in development that would bridge the two decade gap between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. Rumours hinted that the show would run 100 episodes regardless of ratings, and would feature secondary characters we had come to know. Peter Nikolai, Producer of 1313, acknowledged that the character in the demo was just a test character and not the actual main character, who was going to be a young bounty hunter.
Boba Fett? And there’s even more speculation from Kotaku‘s report about the development of Star Wars 1313. (more…)

“Game over, man! Game over!” Alien vs. Predator: Evolution released
With the dust still settling on the disastrous development woes of Aliens: Colonial Marines, it seems odd timing for Fox Digital Entertainment to release a new game featuring everyone’s favourite phallic xenomorphs. Not only that, but the game is based on the bastardised cross-bred franchise everyone would rather forget, Alien vs. Predator. The new title, Alien vs. Predator: Evolution, has been developed by Angry Mob Games for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, and is on sale for the rather hefty price tag of $4.99. Angry Mob previously developed the mobile game tie-in to Robert Rodriguez’s film reboot Predators.
Rick Phillips, Senior Vice President, Fox Digital Entertainment was quoted as saying, “Angry Mob Games has outdone itself with AVP: Evolution, creating compelling gameplay and a graphically stunning experience that lives up to the Alien vs. Predator pedigree.”
To the game’s credit, the graphics generated by the Unity engine are prettier than Sega and Gearbox’s dismal efforts last month. Playing as either the Alien or Predator, you have to battle and brawl through 18 main missions and 11 side quests.
Deus Ex: Human Defiance is the movie adaptation, not a new game
A few days ago, a story spread across the Internet like wild fire concerning a new trademark filed by Square Enix for “Deus Ex: Human Defiance,” which many presumed to be a sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. However, mysterious Kotaku columnist Superannuation has tweeted two domain registrations that may deflate many geek dreams. The registrar was actually CBS Films, so it appears that, for the moment, this is the current working title for their film adaptation.
Deus Ex: Human Defiance is the title of the Deus Ex movie, not a sequel to Human Revolution j.mp/15o3VIz j.mp/VjhJ5c
— superannuation (@supererogatory) March 1, 2013
Given the title’s similarity to the most recent game, which was a prequel to the original game that launched in 2000, it suggests that the film may stay within the time period of 2027 rather than the original’s 2052. Or perhaps it will be set sometime in between, bridging those games. Or neither. In any case, hopefully CBS Films can stay true to the cyberpunk conspiracy theory origins of the games.

Avast ya land lubbers! Assassin’s Creed IV trailer leaks early
Some pirate shenanigans have been going on over the weekend, with Gaming Everything posting the debut trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag days earlier than its official release on Monday, March 4.
While the cinematic trailer does not show any actual gameplay footage, following in the path of every other entry in the series, it does hint at new characters and gameplay elements. Narrated by the notorious Edward Teach, AKA Blackbeard, the trailer shows the mysterious and charismatic sailor assassin Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather to Conner, the less-than-popular main character of Assassin’s Creed III. Kenway Senior, who has a bit of a Simon Belmont about him, looks very much the dashing pirate rogue with Blackbeard embellishing tales of his heroics. He also has a hint of Ezio Auditore’s charm, bedding a couple of nubile young wenches. As well as the assassin missions and an expansion of the well-received naval missions from the previous games, its looks as though Kenway will be swimming down to the ocean bed to find treasures amongst the wreckage of old ships.
The trailer names the release date as October 29th for current platforms, but states that it is “also coming on next-gen consoles.” Since there is no release date set for the PS4, and the Xbox 720 has not even being announced yet, it seems Ubisoft are casting their nets as wide as possible.
Kickstart This! Don’t Throw Rogue System Omega With Your Enemy Golem Mind
Welcome to our monthly trek into the tumultuous world of crowdsourcing donations that is Kickstarter. As always, we have picked a handful of new gaming projects that we feel are worthy of your hard-earned cash. You could master how to manipulate the world with your brainwaves in Throw Trucks With Your Mind, or spread the bubonic plague in Death Inc. Perhaps you would rather fly trading missions through space in Rogue System, or play as an elemental wolf in Omega. If that does not whet your appetite, you could also play a mash-up of old games in Enemy, or delve into Jewish folklore to take on The Golem. (more…)
PS4 looks set to debut at £399 according to UK retailers
Many have described the recent PlayStation 4 launch event as all flash, but no real bang. While Sony showed off a number of new (and not so new) titles and tech demos, this was the icing to a cake that never appeared. The company left gamers hanging with three main questions; what does the new console look like, what date will it be released, and what will it cost?
Well, UK retailers are pre-empting the latter question by allowing consumers to pre-order the console. While GAME has not mentioned the full price, they are taking a £20 deposit for pre-booking Sony’s new beast. Online rival Zavvi has gone one better, attaching a price tag of £399.95 to the machine. While this works out at just over $600 in American dollars, UK console and game prices often tend to be inflated compared to their US counterparts. Zavvi have listed a vague release date of the 31st December, but do warn that the “release date and price [are] unconfirmed. Payment will not be taken until dispatch.” So no promise that Zavvi will fulfill the listed price if Sony sets a higher one.
With nearly a full year to go before the supposed release, ShopTo has already outpriced Zavvi at £399.85. As well as guaranteeing that price, they have stated that if the price at release is actually cheaper, they will honour the lower price. ShopTo also has the launch titles, such as Killzone: Shadow Fall, Watch Dogs and Knack available for pre-order at the not unreasonable price of £48.85 each.
Of course, all this is huge speculation on the part of the retailers. While Sony did not go into any detail at the announcement, as with the previous generation there are likely to be a number of packages and bundles with additional hard drive space or accessories (although Sony did confirm the dual-lensed PS4 Eye will come as standard).
US retailers, such as Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop, have yet to put a price on the PS4.
So what do you think of those prices, readers? Are they sweet enough to make you part with the cash come Christmas?
The Witness coming to PC/iOS… but probably not Xbox 720 or Wii U
One of the highlights of Sony’s PS4 announcement was the whimsical, Myst-like trailer for Jonathan Blow’s upcoming puzzler The Witness. The developer has since expanded on its unveiling to Kotaku, and confirmed what other platforms it will appear on.
“Our deal with Sony is a limited-time exclusivity that applies only to competing console platforms. Basically it is that you will see the game on the PlayStation 4 before you will see it on the Wii U or the next Microsoft console, if the game ever appears on either of those.”
In other words, he is free to launch it on the PC and iOS regardless of his deal with Sony. In fact, Blow states that if he and his team were able to develop those versions in time for the PS4 launch, “The ideal situation for us is to release everything simultaneously or close to simultaneously.” The outspoken developer was very forthcoming when discussing why he had chosen the Playstation 4 as the right console for The Witness, and revealed that Sony did not give him money for the exclusivity.
“The real situation is that, because we are a small developer, we only have the ability to launch on a small number of platforms at once. We liked the idea of being on a console, and originally we thought we might be on the PS3 or Xbox 360, but eventually we decided not to target either of those due to the relatively low system specs… The Wii U still has pretty low system specs, so it came down to a choice between the next Microsoft console or the next Sony console.”
In typical Jonathan Blow fashion, he had a lot more to say about The Witness. (more…)
