PS3 Elite users get first Modern Warfare 3 maps on February 28
Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, has tweeted some good news for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players on the PS3 who are also CoD Elite subscribers. It seems that this group of players will receive access to the Liberation and Piazza maps on February 28.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players who aren’t Elite subscribers will have to wait until March to purchase the DLC, when it’s all bundled together in the first “Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection.” So expect a lot more of these CoD DLC news bites in the future.

Nintendo Download: Sakura Samurai, Undead Storm, more
Welcome one and all to the latest edition of the weekly Nintendo Download. There’s swordfighting, zombie fighting, and the math-related adventures of a thief named Carmen Sandiego.
So you have to ask yourself, do any of these games interest you? Well, do they?
Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword (3DS eShop) – Travel a world rife with beauty and danger to rescue the legendary Princess Cherry Blossom. Her kidnapper has placed dozens of blade-wielding henchmen in your path. (For Nintendo 3DS™)
GO Series: Undead Storm (DSiWare) – Six months after a mysterious meteorite strike, the undead have awoken and are taking over the city. What lies behind this zombie epidemic? Only you can uncover the truth.
Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Great Gateway Grab (WiiWare) – Breaking news from Mumbai, India: The Gateway of India was stolen a few hours ago. It looks like an open and shut case of V.I.L.E villainy. Carmen Sandiego is back and only you can foil her V.I.L.E plans. Travel the globe, solve brain-twisting math puzzles, and catch the villain behind the Great Gateway Grab.
It’s not a trick: Pre-order Lollipop Chainsaw, get an Ash skin

As if I wasn’t already, like, super-stoked for Lollipop Chainsaw…
The next game to emerge from the twisted mind of Suda 51 stars Juliet Starling, a bubbly teenager who has to hack and slash her way through the school day after a nerdy classmate raised an army of zombies. But if you thought the cheerleader uniform was too exploitative, then WB Games has a more appropriate zombie-killing outfit for you: Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy (or rather, Juliet dressed in Ash’s clothes).
That’s what you’ll get if you pre-order Lollipop Chainsaw from GameStop (along with a Jimmy Urine, lead singer of Mindless Self Indulgence, skin). If you’d prefer to pre-purchase the game from Amazon, you’ll receive a Betty Page-styled “Rockabilly” outfit while Best Buy is giving out “Foxy Funk” and “Goth Girl” outfits. But for some reason, the Goth Girl skin is a pink leotard with fairy wings (I don’t get it either).
Juliet will model all of the skins for you in a video and image gallery found after the break. (more…)

Curt Schilling talks Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

There are a lot of big names behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Executive Designer Ken Rolston, is a veteran developer who has worked on The Elder Scrolls series. Fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore created Amalur’s world and the lore within it. And Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn and those strangely sexual action figures based on The Wizard of Oz, assisted with the art direction. But the biggest name connected to Kingdoms of Amalur is one that doesn’t get mentioned very often: Curt Schilling, the founder of 38 Studios and former Major League Baseball player.
Schilling’s bloody sock may be immortalized in Cooperstown, but aside from being a staunch World of Warcraft advocate, he’s still toiling away in the Minors when it comes to game development. We’ll find out if he gets the call up to the big show next week when Reckoning ships to stores, but like any leader in the locker room, Schilling has plenty to say about the journey that brought him (and the rest of the team at 38 Studios) to this point… (more…)

Del Rey to publish Darksiders novel

Del Rey continues their domination of the video game tie-in novel with the announcement of Darksiders: The Abomination Vault. Written by Ari Marmell (Agents of Artifice, The Warlord’s Legacy), the novel takes place thousands of years before the cataclysmic events of the first game:
In Darksiders: The Abomination Vault, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse (beings charged with maintaining the Balance between the forces of Heaven and Hell) have uncovered a plot to resurrect ancient weapons of unimaginable power. Death, with the help of his compatriot War, must track down and neutralize the mysterious individuals behind the scheme before the entire universe is plunged into a devastating conflict.
In addition to the publishing duties on The Abomination Vault, Del Rey’s sister company, Random House Worlds, has been tasked with creating the universe bible for the Darksiders franchise. Seems kind of funny to worry about that now when Darksiders was originally released back in 2010.
Darksiders: The Abomination Vault will be published in May. Darksiders II, the next game in the series, will be released this Summer.
XBLA Today: Rhythm Party, Double Fine Happy Action Theater
It’s Kinect Day on the Xbox Live Arcade as today’s update features a pair of Kinect games that promise to turn your living room into a magical adventure or a trippy dance party. But then, aren’t all dance parties trippy?
Double Fine Happy Action Theater has been priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10) and even though its long title sounds trippy, it’s actually a magical living room game for the Harry Potter in all of us:
Are you annoyed at how little magic you are able to shoot from your fingers? Have you ever tried to get grandma to do the worm, but all she would do is just stand there? Have you ever noticed how your living room doesn’t have any hot lava in it? And who designed this living room anyway?! It doesn’t even have any buildings to smash! Well, Double Fine Happy Action Theater can solve all of these problems and more! You will also be able to clone yourself or hang out in a plate of jelly if you want. And when you’re done with that, maybe you will want to feed some pigeons or have a snowball fight. There are 18 amazing ways that Double Fine Action Theater will enhance your life! And up to 5 of your friends’ lives too!
So that leaves Rhythm Party, which has also been priced at 800 Microsoft Points/$10, to help you unleash your inner raver:
Rhythm Party is a rhythm action game developed exclusively for Kinect on Xbox Live Arcade! Brought to you by the Dance Masters development team, it transforms your entire body into a controller. No need for choreography anymore. You’re the choreographer and the dancer! When your body appears at the center of the screen, just dance! Game play is simple: Use your arms and legs to hit the Ripples in time with the rhythm while you create an original performance. Your performance skills are the key! With a soundtrack recorded largely in collaboration with top international artists, and different special effects for every song, this game is guaranteed to get your body moving and your blood pumping!
