XBLA Today: Toy Soldiers: Cold War

The conclusion of the Summer of Arcade takes a trip back to the 80s with Signal Studios’ Toy Soldiers: Cold War. For 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), players will swap out the plastic army men of the first game for some G.I. Joe-inspired action figures that carry machine guns and chomp cigars whilst battling Reds. Yes, its the USA versus the Commies in Toy Soldiers: Cold War and only your tower defense skills (and a Rambo knockoff) can protect democracy around the globe.
We’ll have a review of Toy Soldiers: Cold War later today.

Medal of Honor: Frontline, Breath of Fire IV added to PS Store
Sony’s latest addition to the PlayStation Store should look familar to anyone who purchased EA’s Medal of Honor reboot last year. Included in every PS3 copy of the game was a high definition remake of Medal of Honor: Frontline, the franchise’s highly acclaimed PS2 debut. Today, Frontline HD became available as a separate PSN download for $14.99.
Also available this week is the PSone Classic Breath of Fire IV. A new entry in Konami’s RPG series hasn’t received a new entry in almost a decade, so this retro download may be as good as we get for awhile.
A complete list of all of this week’s new games and add-ons can be found at the PlayStation.Blog.
DMC: Devil May Cry gameplay trailer ninjas its way out of Gamescom
Capcom and developer Ninja Theory are back with another helping of DMC: Devil May Cry gameplay video. First revealed at E3, Dante’s Gamescom debut showcases the demon hunter’s air combos and even a split second of white hair.
DMC: Devil May Cry is in development on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for a 2012 release. For those that are still worried that Dante doesn’t look right, Capcom has assured us that key members from the Devil May Cry team are working with Ninja Theory to make sure everything comes together in perfect harmony… like ebony and ivory.

Nintendo adds Punch-Out!!, Mario Galaxy, more to Wii budget line

Beginning August 28, Nintendo will expand their “Nintendo Selects” line on the Wii with four new games. Three games starring Mario and one featuring a pint-sized pugilist will be re-released for the budget-friendly price of $19.99. The newly discounted games are the criminally underrated Punch-Out!!, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers Charged and Super Paper Mario.
They join a Nintendo Selects line that was previously established with the inclusion of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and Wii Sports.

Bastion Review: The Kid May Be Mute, But He Talks a Good Game

Bastion is an action RPG for The Kid in all of us. Developed by Supergiant Games, Bastion is clearly a love letter to the bygone days of the Super NES. Anyone who grew up on The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or Secret of Mana will know exactly what to do after a world-shattering Calamity opens the game.
But if you don’t know where to start, a powerful voice will guide you through the world of Bastion… and at no time will he screech “Hey! Listen!” (more…)
Rampage with the Rancor in these Kinect Star Wars screenshots
Players won’t only be wielding a Lightsaber in this Fall’s Kinect Star Wars. In addition to the previously announced podracing sections, the game will also include the option to rampage through the Star Wars universe as the monstrous Rancor.
Promising “intuitive body movements like stomping, charging, roaring, and jumping,” players will be able to “grab, toss, and eat Jawas, stormtroopers, droids and other enemies, plus pull TIE fighters out of the sky, fight AT-STs, and destroy everything in sight.”
Sounds awesome! Or at least like a great way to let the kids blow off some excess energy. Who’s my little Rancor? Yes you are, yes you are.
You can check out all the carnage yourself in a few Rancor-starring screenshots after the break. (more…)
