Modern Warfare 3 official site reporting for duty

Activision has launched the official website for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at CallofDuty.com/mw3. The website is rather sparsely populated at the moment, but you can view the four teaser trailers that Infinity Ward released a few days ago.

Aside from the teasers, there’s also something interesting in the site’s footer: the Sledgehammer Games logo. I believe this is the first public acknowledgement that Sledgehammer Games lent a hand to the development of Modern Warfare 3.

These little bits of information are fun and all, but hopefully Activision has a big Call of Duty reveal coming soon.

Leaked Wii 2 presentation showcases new controller

More Wii 2 rumors have escaped into the wild, this time courtesy of a YouTube video titled “Private Presentation of “Project Cafe” by a Video Games Editor.”

The video features a slideshow presentation of production drawings for the Wii 2’s controller and the system itself. The anonymous video game editor also claims that the Wii 2/Project Cafe console itself is actually visible at the 15 second mark. Circled in red, it’s sitting on the table below the screen. However, this could be any piece of computer equipment as it’s never clearly shown.

But the real highlight of the video is supposed confirmation of the Wii 2 controller, complete with that six-inch touchscreen. The controller closely resembles an Xbox 360/GameCube hybrid with a screen slapped into the center of it. And if the six-inch screen measurement is accurate, it will make even the original Xbox controller look tiny in comparison.

Of course, the entire clip is of a very poor quality and creating a similar looking video as a hoax wouldn’t be difficult at all. I’d take this rumor with a huge grain of salt and wouldn’t consider it confirmation of anything just yet.

MC Lars’ b-side collection 21 Concepts (featuring the Bayonetta song) now available

Nerdcore rapper extraordinaire, MC Lars, has released a new b-sides compilation today: 21 Concepts (But a Hit Ain’t One). The album is available in trusty compact disc format as well as digitally at leading online retailers such as Amazon and iTunes.

Sadly the album doesn’t contain the song titled “21 Concepts (But a Hit Ain’t One).” That track, which features an awesome sample of the “Type A” music from the Game Boy version of Tetris (which was itself just a reworking of the Russian folk song “Korobeiniki”), can be found on MC Lars’ first full-length disc, The Graduate. As you can tell, it was also the inspiration for the album’s cover (which actually features the correct width of a Tetris column, impressive Lars!).

However, it does contain the song “Reaping Beauty,” which was inspired by Platinum Games’ Bayonetta. MC Lars (along with special guests Beefy, Random and Tina Root) rap about Bayonetta’s killing skills and her resemblence to Tina Fey. Check out the full video for the song after the break. (more…)

Raiden is a mental patient in Mortal Kombat: Legacy episode 6

Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Rebirth told a distinctly Earthbound version of the Mortal Kombat story. With the NetherRealm-backed Mortal Kombat: Legacy, the director hasn’t strayed very far from the established canon of the franchise. But with Legacy‘s sixth episode, “Raiden,” Tancharoen is definitely going in a new direction.

Taking a cue from 12 Monkeys, Legacy‘s Raiden teleported to Earth and was immediately imprisoned in a mental hospital due to his “delusions.” He eventually gets the Sarah Connor treatment from a rather brutal doctor.

Tancharoen was so worried about fan reaction to this episode that it opens with a disclaimer:

The following episode represents my different take on the Mortal Kombat universe.

I think it combines the perfect amount of gritty realism mixed with a hint of mysticism.

I hope you guys enjoy it.

– Kevin Tancharoen

After last week’s rather lackluster Kitana/Mileena episode, I thought this new take on Raiden was a rather awesome change.

Amazon confirms Modern Warfare 3 release date

Amazon sent out an email early this morning to all their frequent video game buyers to announce that tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18, the Amazon Gold Box deals will feature nothing but games. We’ll have more details on the sale for you tomorrow, but the much more interesting thing about the email is the little stripe advertising Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at the bottom.

The advertisment uses the exact same font for the 11.08.11 date as the leaked promotional poster from yesterday. So unless Amazon stole the font from a fake promotional poster, it was provided by Activision and is the official release date.

Or, as the awesome Auric Goldfinger would say: “Once is happenstance [the original Kotaku rumor]. Twice is coincidence [the poster]. The third time it’s enemy action [the Amazon ad].” Activision just performed enemy action on a November 8th release date and told other game publishers to back off unless they want their new releases to get steamrolled by the Modern Warfare machine.
